This apartment and location couldn't be better. Savierio and his daughter met me at the train station as promised and with sunset coming on we drove first to the lookout above Firenze where they pointed out the geography and places to see - Duomo, Palazzos, Piazza Signore , churches and more, all within walking distance.
The apartment is exactly as described and pictured. The living room is filled with sunshine in the mornings and looks out on the busy street below. The spacious bedroom is at the back and very quiet, bed very comfortable. The bathroom is excellent, with great shower and plenty of room. Storage is excellent (I was there a week) and washing machine handy. The kitchen is very well-equipped for home cooking, including basics like salt, coffee and spices - though with so many tempting restaurants nearby, apart from breakfast I ate out often. Everything was clean and fresh - I felt at home right away.
Savierio provides some excellent books about Firenze and lots of local information which adds to the enjoyment. Most sights are within walking distance - Ponte Vecchio 10 mins, Duomo 15, Academia 25, Pitti Palace just around the corner. I enjoyed "the library" restaurant near the Ponte end of via dei serragli - great for a lone traveller as plenty to read if you wish, friendly service and music/entertainment some evenings. There are 2 or 3 small grocery shops nearby for supplies, several fruit shops, and a deli/butcher with delicious salamis and cheeses.
The area feels very safe, with surprises like artisan workshops or a fabulous church at every turn, and very easy to find your way round. The apartment is warm, friendly, safe and I thoroughly recommend it.
Tip - you can get yr ticket for Academia at the Pitti Palace in advance, and sail past the huge queue. And don't miss the leather markets near the Duomo if you love handbags and silk scarves .....
Thank you Saviero for a wonderful stay in Florence - I hope to return and would definitely stay at Boticelli 98 again.
