TWO BEDROOM RENOVATED, EXTENDED TRADITIONAL COTTAGE IN RURAL SETTING

Loughrea Area Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedroom en-suite cosy cottage in rural East Galway

Set on the edge of the Slieve Aughty mountains this Galway holiday cottage comprises 2 en suite bedrooms, modern kitchen, dining room, sun lounge and lounge. It stands on a 3/4 acre plot with plenty of off road parking and room to practise golf short game. The nearest golf course is about 3 miles away with two more excellent courses with 25 minutes drive. There are 4 golf trolleys available to use. The quietness is often remarked upon as is the clearness of the sky at night. The local pub is just over a mile away and has live music on Fridays. The cottage is suitable as a base for touring, painting, golf, walking, fishing, horse riding and enjoying the night life of the local people the like of whom you will find no friendlier anywhere. There is no shortage of pubs and restaurants within easy driving distance and Galway City with all its facilities is about one hours drive. Woodford is the nearest village some 3 miles away. It has a well stocked convenience store and Post Office.

Reviews: We are proud of the revues we have received and would ask you to read all of them as revues from outside the UK are posted under the further revues section.

Barack Obama, Moneygall: The property is about 33 miles from Moneygall the home of one of Barack Obama's Irish ancestors. Visited by the President in May 2011.

Ein wunderschöner Urlaub in wunderschönem Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Owner's Response: We are delighted that our visitor enjoyed everything about their holiday. It really does mean a lot to us that others enjoy some of what we love about the area, people and country.
For some reason the Anne's home has been translated incorrectly. It should be Ballinlough, a short walk from the cottage.

A great stay in a great location.......beautiful

  • 5 of 5
The cottage is in great condition in a scenic location not far from Loughrea and a beautiful little village called woodford. We stayed for 5 nights and where able to visit Galway and the Cliffs of Moher, along with some nice local villages. The cottage is very homely with en-suites for both bedrooms. We were able to have breakfast in the light, airy dinning room and an evening drink in the conservatory. I would highly recommend staying here and in addition to a great place to stay you'll also benefit from the owners help with local information and directions.

Owner's Response: It is difficult to respond to such a glowing review for which we are very grateful. We do our best to ensure our visitors enjoy their stay and realise that in such a location it takes a while to find the places to visit and to eat so we provide an information sheet. To describe Woodford as beautiful is stretching it a bit. What we like about it is that the main part has not changed in well over 100 years and even Keary's hardware shop has the same name as then. If you can find an excuse to go inside Keary's it is a wonderous cave of antiquity. Woodford was used for location shots in a film called The Garage, even though it does not have a garage.

beautiful, charming, relaxing, wonderful

  • 5 of 5
We spent two weeks in Ireland. Our second week of being in Ireland our home was at this cottage. That was literally how it felt, like a home away from home. It was so cute and charming. The additions to the cottage were perfect! The cottage is conveniently located close to many things. The owner was very informative and easy to get a hold of. We drove all over but were always happy to come home to our quaint little cottage. There were four of us and it was a perfect size for us. We used many of the suggestions given to us by John. We loved being able to go dancing at Kinsella's, the local bar in Loughrea. It was fun to walk around near the cottage and go exploring. Ireland is so beautiful that you can never get enough of it! The cottage is located far enough out of town to be peaceful and quiet but not too far that you can get anywhere without much time at all. It is a wonderful place to stay! Couldn't have been happier!

Quality time with family

  • 5 of 5
A month in Europe, John's cottage provided the most comfort and home-like feeling of our whole journey. The most boring and exhausting way of travelling is to travel with the same copy Lonely Planet with other people. You will meet the same group of people at Temple Bar last week but in Dingle next week. You can throw it all and go as you like in this place. Take a nap in sun room if it rain. Wander in Forest Park or anyplace along Lough Rea or Derg after dinner if weather permits. We walked in many unnameable trails in Connemara and Blackhead coast till sunset without taking map. Finally, come back to "our" well-equipped home. Don't Hesitate, this is a quiet and cozy place to experience the feeling of happiness.

Owner's Response: We are very pleased with this review and even more pleased that our visitors enjoyed their stay.
When a booking is made we send 'help notes' giving direction, how to operate various things in the cottage, where is a good place to eat and where local culture can be experienced. No review so far has mentioned how useful this has been and we hope that our visitors have a chance to sample some of the good experiences we enjoy when we go there. For example we always make sure we go for a meal to the Derg Inn on a Sunday evening to have fine food
and listen to traditional music. Equally, lunch at Morran's Oyster Cottage is on our agenda. Nearer the cottage the local pub usually has music on a Friday. This is not tourist music it is what our neigbours like.

Lovely Irish Cottage

  • 5 of 5
John was very accommodating throughout the entire process. We arrived at the cottage and were very happy to see that pictures/description were spot on. We were looking for a place that was off the beaten track. But was still within easy reach of our other travel destinations. This cottage fit the bill. John has done a great job restoring this property and he should be extremely proud. The cottage was clean and orderly when we arrived. There was plenty of space in the fridge/freezer and kitchen cabinets for our groceries. The kitchen is well appointed and fit our needs perfectly. Every morning we were able to eat our breakfast in the sun room. This is a great way to start the day. The beds were extremely comfortable and the bedrooms had enough space for us. John's neighbor Anne was there to meet us when we arrived. And throughout our stay was extremely helpful. I would highly recommend his cottage for anyone looking for the true Irish experience. We would not hesitate to stay here on our next vacation to Ireland.

Owner's Response: What can I say? We very much appreciate the time and trouble our visitor has taken to write this review and for its kind content. I would emphasize the comment about being helpful. Ireland is a 'can do' country, that is to say if you ask for help or something out of the ordinary most people will do their best to help and it is this attitude we find so endearing and try to emulate, so don't be frightened to ask!
I must point out that my wife, Patsy, should take much of the credit in how the cottage appears. Not just from the interior design angle but the extreme hard work it took to get the very fabric of the cottage and grounds into shape. There is a picture of her pressure hosing the cattle crush, at the cottage and what was being splashed back on her was not mud.
Thank you again

Secluded with plenty of Elbow Room

  • 4 of 5
Surounded by lovely lawns and lots of birdlife, French's cottage was a quiet respite to the ending of an almost 3 week vacation. I found the cottage to be clean and the kitchen convenient. Two bonuses were the small conservatory at the rear of the house and the glassed-in dining area. The owner was quick to answer my questions and we found many pubs in the area to our liking. I was sad there was not a real fire, just a light up in a big, original wall-sized alcove.
I would recommend this property to other guests. It was nice that it was fairly close to the airport, as well.

Owner's Response: It would appear the only disappointment was the lack of a real fire. The actuality of an open turf (peat) fire is a struggle to light and a lot of very light dust that gets everywhere. The fire in place is a simulation with a light and flicker effect within it to give a good approximation of the appearance without the inconvenience. This one can be turned on and of at will.

The immediate area is extremely rural, so much so that the passing of a car is always noticed. It is set in a valley with a river running along it. The main attractions would be the peacefulness and the friendly people. A number of pubs have dance floors and there is usually a mixture of ballroom and irish dance. Further afield are the golf courses and the towns of Loughrea and Portumna. The later has Portumna forest walks and the castle. It also has the Shannon river and Lough Derg. For those who wish to travel further afield they can visit The Turoe Centre, Cliffs of Moher, The Burren, Allwee Caves Lough Atorick, Conermara, Mount Shanon or Dartfield Equestrian Centre. The World famous Ballinasloe horse fair is also within an hours drive, held in the autumn. Previous visitors have been particularly impressed by the traditional and more modern music played in a great number of pubs including O,Connor's (nearest). Galway City is also not too far with its Oyster Festival and Races.

Other Activities: Wild life, Deer, Pine Martin, Hares, Foxes. Portumna forest walk

Golf: Loughrea is a fine 18 hole golf course. Portumna has a high reputation and good eating facilities. Curra West is the closest course not up to the standard of the other two but still very playable and usually empty during the week.
