Granada Hotel Rental Photos and Description

The votes are in! Our staff came in as everyone's favorite Xanadu amenity.

Casa Xanadu, more than just a luxurious oasis of comfort to travelers, it welcomes you into a world of service exceeding any 5-star resort with our lush tropical gardens, elegant surroundings, and large, deep swimming pool. Suites come with air conditioning, mini fridge, and pillow top bedding room service, laundry service, tour guide service and we'll even pick you up at the airport and take you back when its time to leave. Designed for tranquility and relaxation, an excellent alternative for families or small groups. Children very welcome indeed. We love children.

After being picked up at the Airport in Managua (Free if you reserve one suite for 7 days) you are greeted by Xanadu's Guest Relations Manager, Ms. Marlene Rivas. During your stay our staff will attend to your breakfast choices, daily housekeeping, same day wash, press & fold laundry, and shopping. Meanwhile, Marlene will assist in setting up and reserving tours of the many things to do in and around Granada-Lake Nicaragua and beyond. The suites are private and three are equipped with Jaccuzis, while all have refrigerators, flat screen TVs, pillow top bedding with 1200 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets and a decor you will love.

Last but often first is our wonderful Shiatsu massage specialist who will provide you and your family with a therapeutic massage right in the comfort and privacy of your own suite. Add to that facials, pedicures and...well you get the idea. We're going to spoil you.

During your stay our staff will be responsible to see that you do nothing that resembles work. We will be there as you please and leave you to privacy if you ask. While breakfast daily is included many guests choose an option to have dinners prepared as well and served in the tranquility of our tropical gardens by the pool. Our cooks can also set up and prepare a barbecue for families and groups. Laundry and ironing are done same day. takes care of your laundry while you're out and does grocery shopping even before you arrive. If you need a baby sitter she's good at that, too!

Apart from her responsibilities we will make you aware of the many activities such as tours, places to visit, things to do in and around Granada. We don't want you to miss out, so we have an in-house licensed tour guide who will provide you with assistance in arranging and reserving your tours so you don't have to be bothered. No charge. Our pleasure.

Casa Xanadu is unique with its many tropical gardens, colorful lighted reflecting pond with fountain, various seating areas that merge into the social area by the pool. Here is a dining area, a barbecue, and various places to relax or take a nap, go for a swim or listen to music which plays wirelessly from your smart phone through our music system.

Xanadu is large enough for parties of up to 20 persons, yet it is cozy but it will also seat up to twenty guests. Xanadu is spacious. From the entrance to the pool area takes up the length of one half the length of a city block.

Whether you are a small family, a group of friends traveling together, or a large family having a reunion Casa Xanadu should be where you stay. This is an extended stay residence where Xanadu becomes your home, a place that welcomes you unlike a hotel or rental.

Xanadu's suites are quite large and spacious. Once a colonial home the vaulted ceilings reach 26' (8 meters) at the apex, its suites are cozy and designed to make you want to stay. Our environment ranges from the necessary (WiFi throughout, copy machine & printer, available private phone if needed) to such things as flat screen internet & cable TV, Air Conditioning, sumptuous bedding, a private swimming pool open 24/7 just for you and your family, tropical gardens, music and areas to relax in the warmth of our tropical climate.

About Marlene Rivas

Xanadu has been named after Marco Polo's 13th century report of the fantastic palace of Kublai Khan in Shangdu, China. Xanadu became the English pronunciation of Shangdu. We use it as an inspiration to provide palace-like atmosphere and service in this Central American tropical climate.

Marlene Rivas purchased this hotel in 2004

Why Marlene Rivas chose Granada

Colonial charm meets modern luxury in this spectacular residence inn. Centrally located in Granada's historic district, never need a taxi day or night as you are within walking distance to historical monuments, architecture, museums and restaurants, take evening walks to the Calzada Street night life on well lighted streets.

What makes this hotel unique

The place you stay is also your primary destination. Or at least it should be. Xanadu redefines the traveler's expectation of comfort and focuses on the entire spectrum rather than 'just lodging'. Start with a good Shiatsu massage on your first day done in the privacy of your own suite. Yes, we have no 'rooms' but actual suites with ceilings that tower some 26' above, lending a sense of infinite space and comfort.

After a sumptuous breakfast in a tropical garden by the pool be sure to talk to Marlene Rivas in customer relations. She's a licensed tour guide and offers everything to free descriptions of where to go and what to see and do to actually arranging your tours door to door.

If you plan to stay for several days and are traveling in a group or family, you may not want to eat in restaurants every day. No problem. Maria will arrange for dinners in the evening made acceding to your tastes.

Relax after a day of tours, take a swim in Xanadu's pool, then listen to your own music which wirelessly connects to your smart phone without getting up.

Making your vacation effortless requires a trained staff who attends to your every need. In fact most guests later report that Xanadu's amazing staff is what impressed them the most.

Fantastic

  • 5 of 5
Casa Xanadu was an amazing place to stay. My friends and I stay in two of the five suites available and the rooms and bathrooms are palatial! The staff is very attentive and friendly and there's a pool!! Its centrally located to the center plaza so you're never too far from anything you want to see, eat or do. We ended up staying an extra day to end our trip relaxing by the pool and this place is well worth it! There is also a fantastic breakfast in the morning and water stations throughout the area so you'll never be parched. One of the suites is two stories and can accommodate large families. I stayed in the third suite which has a spa tub and roku! All the rooms have generous sized beds and high quality sheets and towels. If you're lucky, there's a turtle that will come have breakfast with you as well! I can't speak highly enough of the staff and accommodations.

It's all about comfort right- The staff has great suggestions so you'll never be bored or hungry! You can even practice your espanol! I cant wait to come back and stay here again!

Tip: House coffee is fantastic. Definitely bring sunblock & insect spray for mosquitoes.

Owner's Response: This year the rains came very late and very forceful, making conditions ideal for these critters for the first few weeks. Aside from standard fumigation we perform, Maria keeps a spray and/or cream which works well to repel mosquitos and free for the asking.

The BEST place in Granada

  • 5 of 5
Absolutely fabulous!!! Casa Xanadu is as lavish, comfortable and accommodating as it appears. The rooms are grandiose and comfortable with 2 story ceilings, soft, plush beds and couches with more than enough room for everyone. Every suite is designed uniquely with rich luxurious colors and decorations. You will feel right at home with an exotic twist. Our group stayed 4 nights in the Shambala and Kublai Khan suites. Air conditioning was quick to cool the room and the Jacuzzi tub was nice in Kublai Khan suite. The staff will make breakfast each morning and made excellent, excellent, local dishes.

The truly best part of Casa Xanadu is the staff. Marlene is incredible. She was extremely accommodating in managing the dates of our reservation and arranging various tours or providing information on activities. She really takes it to heart to provide the guests the best possible stay and goes well above and beyond to make them comfortable. Marlene is openly concerned about her guests time in Granada, providing excellent advice and suggestions on places and people. The remainder of the staff is very warm, open and helpful. It helps to be able to speak a little Spanish and the girls (specifically Jennifer and Maria) really appreciate the guests trying to speak their language. I learned a few basic words on our way to Granada and found it easy to communicate.

The hotel is located a few blocks off of the Parque Central across the street from the Augusto San Francisco cathedral. The main street (Calzada) of restaurants and bars is only three short blocks away. That is if you venture away from Casa Xanadu. Considering the covered, outdoor dining, swimming pool, garden (with Linda the Tortuga), wifi, and television with Roku, it is plausible to stay in this oasis all day. The staff will leave at 5pm, giving you run off the house. You will feel like it is your personal home as you simply relax.

Staying at Casa Xanadu made our trip a remarkable experience. The girls were absolutely wonderful, the rooms were lavish, spacious and comfortable and it has all the amenities you could want. Practice a little Spanish, research a few Nicaragua breakfast dishes and enjoy an amazing place. I am going back as soon as I can.

Room Tip: Any of the 5 suites are perfect and can easily sleep 4 adults. The 2 Convento suites has an adjoining door and is better for larger groups.

Good Location and Great Service

  • 5 of 5
5 of us spent 5 nights in August 2014. You can add my name to the chorus. Property is beautiful and luxuriantly furnished. The breezeway and the patio are pleasant places with comfortable furniture and tables from which to eat, drink, relax, socialize etc. The wifi is strong and reliable throughout the property. The pool is spotlessly clean and the perfect temperature for refreshing dips day or night. Rooms are comfortable and everything worked. Staff is phenomenal. There are only 4-5 employees and the owner so you see the same people who quickly learn your name and take a nice pride in delivering personalized service. I'll give you an example. There were 5 of us. 4 of us take coffee in the mornings. By the second morning, Maria had already memorized how we liked our coffee, me black, the daughter with extra sugar etc. You really do feel like you're in a guest home and not a hotel. Location is near perfect. Close to several good restaurants without having to go down the the crazy of the Calzada tourist district but still close enough to the Calzada that walking there is a matter of 3 long block or 4 to Calle Atravesada and the market blocks. The front suite gets a little street noise in the morning and the A.C. while effective could be quieter though far from the worst I've heard. Handsome property. Caring, personal attention. Good location close in but still quiet and within the extra light and police zone of the historical district that so walking back to the hotel even at night feels safe and secure. My highest recommendation.

Not your typical hotel!

  • 5 of 5
Tomorrow my travel partner and I check out of the place we referred to as our palace. We were fortunate enough to stay at Casa Xanadu for 6 nights and enjoyed every moment of it. The rooms are spacious, with very comfortable beds and pillows, clean and nice bathrooms with hot water and great water pressure, air conditioning, lovely art and relaxing neutral tones. The hotel itself is beautiful, has a lovely garden, and out door area with a large pool and plenty of seating.

To start, the owner Doug made us feel right at home. He wanted to ensure a carefree and relaxing stay, while also making sure we got a good feel of everything the city has to offer, from day trips to night life. He gave us excellent recommendations on restaurants, one in particular being The Garage; yet, we were also given the option to use the very clean kitchen, with all the essential cooking utensils. One of the best parts about vacation is of course eating out, but with longer travels (such as ours being a total of 5 weeks), 3 meals a day is not always ideal to dining out. The kitchen also included filtered water and ice cubes, which made a huge difference in comparison to having to buy so much bottled water at some of our other stays.

A great addition to the kitchen is Maria, the breakfast chef! Every morning we have woken up, to have unique breakfast served with a smile on her face. In addition to the great food, the coffee and daily fresh made juices were a wonderful way to start the day. Not only does she cook, but along with a couple other women, our room and bathroom were cleaned spotless daily and they offered extremely cheap laundry services.

Marlene, the house concierge, has been taking great care of us. She is quite the encyclopedia on the entire city of Granada and its surroundings. Every question we have had she has either known the answer, or willingly looked into it. Going far above and beyond, such as taking us to the local market and helping us plan our bus routes for upcoming travels. She can also set you up with a great massage, with the choice of going to the spa or the spa coming to you.

You can tell the staff here truly takes pride in everything they do and their number one goal is to help assist in the vacation of your dreams.

Owner's Response: I am so glad your review took time to mention the little things our staff did that may seem like extras but they are actually details which we feel is our obligation when we promise 5-star service and accommodations. Everyone here at Xanadu appreciates that you chose us and were kind enough to tell others. Thank you!

Casa Xanadu was incredible!!!

  • 5 of 5
What an incredible stay at Casa Xanadu!! We were in Granada for a little over a week and I can't say enough about how wonderful the experience was. From the hot showers and water pressure to the fresh delicious breakfast cooked by the lovely Maria every morning, Xanadu is a special place. Located right in the heart of the historical district of Granada, we were able to walk to all of the restaurants and cafes, and really got a feel for the city. The pool was an added plus that we enjoyed tremendously to cool off in during the heat of the day. After coming from Costa Rica with no AC in our previous hotel, we relished in having air conditioning at night.
The service was truly outstanding! Marlene (the hotel concierge) helped us plan our day trips to the volcano Mombacho and the thrilling Zip Line tour through the canopy of the rain forest. We also took a boat ride around the 365 tiny islands formed by the volcano eruption, and we explored the city taking lots of pictures and finding little gifts for friends and family. Any questions we had Marlene was able to answer them! We needed to ship a box home, find the bank, schedule a massage, hire a car to take us to the Ometempe Ferry, she arranged everything and we were so grateful to have her help!
Also having a wifi connection, filtered water, ice cubes, all of the things you take for granted in the US but come to miss when traveling in Central America, really made Casa Xanadu like a home away from home.
The rooms were always clean with fresh towels daily, and another plus was having access to the kitchen. We grew tired of eating out every night during our travels, so having a kitchen to cook in if we wanted to was a treat. Casa Xanadu felt more like a grand Colonial casa rather than a hotel, and Douglas (the owner) clearly took pride in making sure all of his guests were well taken care of. He gave us some fantastic restaurant suggestions, and told us about the banana bread baked daily in the bakery just up the street (WOW SO GOOD!!).
Granada is an undiscovered gem, with brightly colored buildings and churches, friendly people, and a vibrant culture. What a gift it was to discover Casa Xanadu, Granada & Nicaragua!!
We will definitely come back again soon!!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your informative review. It will certainly help others who are looking for the right place to stay in Granada. You listed many of the things a weary traveler finds refreshing and relaxing. At Casa Xanadu many of the things you mention we take for granted. It's just great to know we are providing our guests with something special.

Casa Xanadu is an Experience!

  • 5 of 5
When I initially booked Xanadu I was amazed at the speed with which the hotel staff (Marlene) contacted me with confirmation. Within minutes of my email I received a phone call reviewing my needs. When I later responded to Marlene saying how impressed I was, her response is: "You are special to us and you deserve special service." That pretty much say it all.

When it comes to accommodations, there seems to be two kinds of thinking; there are those that say, "the room is not all that important - it's just a place to sleep," and then there are people such as myself, where the accommodation is an integral, even essential part of the overall travel experience. That is Casa Xanadu.

Xanadu is not simply a luxury, affordable and gorgeous property - it is a destination. Our air conditioned room was enormous, lovely appointed right down to extraordinary fine imported sheets and furnishings, a staff that seemed almost in competition to make you're comfort a priority, and an owner that kept in touch on a regular basis to confirm all was well. The public areas are simply lovely, with the long atrium foyer with fountain, along with the incredible pool, and a central location an easy 2 block walking distance to the center of town, makes Xanadu a worthy "destination" while visiting Granada. A wonderful travel experience.

Casa Xanadu is a luxurious residence centrally located in the historic district of Granada, only a few steps to the oldest colonial church, Convento San Francisco where Granada's main museum is located. 2 blocks from central park & several other restored churches, museums, workshops. Casa Xanadu is within a very short walk to restaurants, cafes, ice cream parlors, night spots and saloons. Yet we are 2 blocks from the main walking mall known as La Calzada street, close enough to be there in 5 minutes walking yet far enough away not to hear late night revelers.

Notes:
This is a 5 star colonial residence inn located in the heart of the historic district with services that challenge the finest hotels with unimaginable attention to vacation services. In house tour guide Marlene Rivas provides knowledgeable advice and assistance in setting up and reserving tours of Lake Nicaragua, the volcanos and white villages surrounding Granada. She also provides personal tours as well directly from the hotel. The hotel's layout provides for privacy because it is so spacious. The environment is excellent for young people and children who love the play for hours in the pool after returning at the end of the day. If you tire easily of restaurants we provide a wide variety of dinners served in the evening by the pool. Enjoy fresh fish from the lake, chicken, pork and beef dishes plus several pasta dishes if you like genuine Italian cuisine. Our menu comes close to exceeding the most exclusive restaurants in the historic district.
