About Gary Beckler

I am originally from Indiana and graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Math. My background is I.T. I have lived in Portland since 1997. I am single and love to cook and travel.

Gary Beckler purchased this house in 2003

Why Gary Beckler chose Portland

I purchased this property because the Piedmont neighborhood was up-and-coming in 2003. Now it is a vibrant neighborhood, close to downtown and many amenities. It is within walking distance of the Alberta Arts District, the Historic Mississippi Avenue district and the North Williams Corridor. This is a quiet residential neighborhood, great for walking and bicycling and close to the Peninsula Park Rose Garden.

What makes this house unique

The 1925 Craftsman bungalow has original charm including French doors, a unique wood-burning fireplace, a formal dining room, high coved ceilings and hardwood floors.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Seven of our family members stayed at the Piedmont Guest House when we were in Portland for our grandson's wedding. We found the house to be very comfortable, well equipped, and convenient to major roads and the University of Portland where the event took place. The Safeway grocery, Walgreen's, and Starbucks were within a block..very convenient. I baked 5 doz. orange rolls for the Sun. brunch, entertained at a salmon dinner for 13 and found all the equipment needed. A very cozy place for family time and a gracious host.

Great house!

  • 5 of 5
The house was the perfect place for our group of 9, who were in town for the Portland Marathon. Gary was very helpful, suggesting a place for dinner (Amalfi's), which had delicious food. He also notified us as soon as the house was ready, so we could do an early check-in. The house had everything we needed for our weekend and was just a few minutes away from downtown.

Great house, very well equipped

  • 5 of 5
We had a great time staying at this property. It was spacious and clean and very well equipped in every way. Gary made us feel welcome and comfortable. The location is awesome too, close to the airport and a short drive to everything. Also a quick walk to grocery stores, Starbucks and one of Portland's amazing rose gardens. We were traveling with our two-year old and the place was perfect for the family...came complete with toys, bath toys, highchair and an organ in the living room that she was crazy about. We will definitely try to stay here again next time we are in Portland.

Great character home!!

  • 5 of 5
We had a great time in Portland! Gary was an excellent host and welcomed us into his house graciously. This was a perfect spot for our group of 7 as it was very close to a grocery store and only a 10 min. drive to the heart of down town. There were many other places near by that we wish we had a chance to visit. I would stay here again if I were visiting Portland with a large group. Thanks Gary.

Great alternative to a hotel

  • 5 of 5
Our family stayed here in the summer for a wedding. We were 8 adults and two kids and we had a great time. The house was very clean, and the owner went out of his way to make sure our kids had a safe visit, and was very helpful when it came to suggestions in the area.

Perfect for Portland!

  • 5 of 5
My family (5 adults and one child) stayed for a week in Portland and this house was perfect for us. It was very spacious and very comfortable. The weather was great, but we were very happy to have the A/C. Gary was wonderful to us and made sure we had everything we needed. The kitchen was very well stocked with all the appliances, spices, etc., there were more than enough towels and linens, and the house was spotless. The house is also very convenient and was a short car ride to all of our activities, restaurants, etc. We highly recommend this property and Portland. It's a wonderful city to visit.
