About Gary Beckler

I am originally from Indiana and graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Math. My background is I.T. I have lived in Portland since 1997. I am single and love to cook and travel.

Gary Beckler purchased this house in 2003

Why Gary Beckler chose Portland

I purchased this property because the Piedmont neighborhood was up-and-coming in 2003. Now it is a vibrant neighborhood, close to downtown and many amenities. It is within walking distance of the Alberta Arts District, the Historic Mississippi Avenue district and the North Williams Corridor. This is a quiet residential neighborhood, great for walking and bicycling and close to the Peninsula Park Rose Garden.

What makes this house unique

The 1925 Craftsman bungalow has original charm including French doors, a unique wood-burning fireplace, a formal dining room, high coved ceilings and hardwood floors.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Seven of our family members stayed at the Piedmont Guest House when we were in Portland for our grandson's wedding. We found the house to be very comfortable, well equipped, and convenient to major roads and the University of Portland where the event took place. The Safeway grocery, Walgreen's, and Starbucks were within a block..very convenient. I baked 5 doz. orange rolls for the Sun. brunch, entertained at a salmon dinner for 13 and found all the equipment needed. A very cozy place for family time and a gracious host.

Delightful 5 days in lovely craftsman home.

  • 5 of 5
We are still glowing from our wonderful 5 day stay at this beautiful NE Portland rental. It was the perfect location for family to gather to celebrate our son's wedding and family brunch the following day. Each room was beautifully decorated, their was ample space, and the home, particularly the kitchen, was well appointed with everything we could possibly need. Everyone in our large party commented how much they appreciated that.
(Ample luxury towels, dinner setting for 50, plenty of sheets, super stocked kitchen with food and spices.)

Local stores were only a block away, and a beautiful park with rose garden just an 8 block walk, all situated in a quiet neighborhood. We sat out on the porch well past dark playing games provided by our host.

We have stayed at many B&B's and rented VRBO properties before, but without a doubt this was our best experience. Out host, Gary, could not have been more pleasant, thoughtful, or accommodating. I would recommend this lovely home to anyone looking for a rental in North Portland.

family wedding

  • 5 of 5
Gary was so helpful in planning our stay. The house was perfect for our family. We could all be together. We hosted a rehearsal dinner and the house was stocked with all the servingware we needed and the morning of the wedding all the girls could be together for hair and makeup. The rose garden was within walking distance, as was the grocery store. All the downtown attractions were a quick drive away.
I highly recommend this vacation rental.

Great House!

A group of us drove in and stayed here for a few days in May. The house itself is lovely, and Gary was very helpful and courteous. Definitely would stay here again if we were in the area.

Wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5
We can't express how much we enjoyed our stay in the Portland area. The Piedmont Guesthouse was all we could have hoped for in convenience and charm. We were impressed by all the thoughtful details provided for our stay: luscious towels, comfortable sitting area and a fully equipped kitchen. The location of the Guesthouse was convenient for our needs and our host, Gary, was able to recommend numerous local establishments for dining /attractions. We can't wait to return to Portland and stay at the Piedmont Guesthouse.
