Spacious, Comfortable Home with Perfect Accessibility to the Best of Portland

5 of 5
Submitted: May 6, 2013 Stayed: May 2013
My family and I all settled into Piedmont House from Central Oregon, Tacoma, and Minnesota. I chose Piedmont House on a whim, and was so pleased to find it was exactly what my family and I needed for a great gathering.

Gary, the owner, had excellent communication in the preceding weeks and days. He checked in with us throughout the four-day visit to ensure our comfort. We filled the four bedrooms—myself and my cousin (each in our thirties) took two bedrooms, and my parents and aunt (in their 60s) took the other bedrooms. It was an accessible house for all of our abilities.

We were most pleased with the access to all things desirable! A kitchen fully stocked with utensils and lots of dishes. TVs in nearly all rooms, full laundry including iron, comfy furniture, and lots of character. I like a house that feels comfortable enough to live in—I liked the rustic wood floors, huge windows, and cozy beds. I baked cookies, cooked meals, and entertained my guests with ease at the house.

My graduation happened to be a weekend when Portland was in full bloom—that was a lucky coincidence for us. The plants on the property were colorful, fragrant, and a great backdrop for my “cap and gown” photos.

While visiting we had to travel to the airport (10 minutes away), Concordia University (5 minutes away), downtown (easy access), and to the coast (again, easy to get to). I loved the central location of the house. I was a bit concerned as I drove up MLK Jr. Blvd (graffiti, lots of loiterers), but was pleased to see the house was in an established neighborhood that felt safe, day and night. The grocery store one block away was great for my dad who loved to walk and get the odds and ends (groceries) we needed incidentally.

My parents would argue that there’s nothing the house needed to be more perfect for our stay. My only complaint is that I filled our schedules so full that we didn’t get to spend enough time relaxing there. I was also bummed that my family loves TV so much, because the huge one in the living room had so many channels and captivated them all weekend.

Highly recommended vacation rental! You’ll not be disappointed.

Great Stay in a Great Neighborhood

5 of 5
Submitted: April 19, 2013 Stayed: April 2013
We had a large group to book at the last minute, and the homeowner scrambled to make sure we had everything we needed and answered all our questions and concerns about our stay. We felt very welcome, and he even set the dining room table for all 9 of us.

The house was very clean and orderly inside and out. There were fresh towels and linens for all the guests including two Aerobeds which came in handy.

Our time was mostly spent downtown and in Hawthorne, which was about a ten dollar can ride away, but there were some great restaurants and bars in the immediate area.

The only thing I would add to the listing is that the owner lives on the premises. This turned out to be a non-issue because it's a completely different level of the house, but it was different than some of us had expected.

Five out of five. Hands down the nicest VRBO property I've rented.

Thanks again!

Great time at Portland Bungalow

5 of 5
Submitted: April 14, 2013 Stayed: April 2013
I booked a weekend with about 12 friends at this Bungalow in Portland. When I booked the reservation, the owner Gary, immediately reached out to make sure everything was okay. He took care to ensure we had everything we needed. He offered advice on sights and events in Portland. I mentioned that I would like to grill and Gary even made sure his grill was ready to use.

When we arrived Gary met our party and showed us all around the house. The house is in tremendous condition with tremendous amenities. It had four comfortable bedrooms and even a few aerobeds. The backyard was perfect for grilling and Gary provided lots of cookware and grill tools. The inside came with a wi-fi connection and Hi-Def TV's in every room. The porch provided a nice area to gather and enjoy the outside.

The house is located in a nice neighborhood in NE Portland. It had easy access to downtown and the wealth of cultural activities available.

I would highly recommend this to anyone, particularly large groups of people looking for a relaxing and exciting stay in Portland, Oregon.

Needs some work, but still good

Submitted: April 8, 2013 Stayed: March 2013
The owner was very nice and it was a pleasant stay. He was attentive to our needs and helpful with ideas of the things to do in the area.
The place was very clean with a few minor cleaning misses.
There were a few code issues with the home, such as railings and disposal switch placement, mostly a concern if you go there with small children. (we pointed these out to the owner and he said he would take care of them)
Also, the owner does live downstairs and there is no door to the stairs, which felt odd. So if you come with kids bring a baby gate.
Again the owner is a great guy. and it is a nice home.
Internet worked well, and he had an awesome supply of games for those who will.

Owner's Response: I am working with a contractor to bring the upper stairs railings to code and move the placement of the garbage disposal switch as well as install a stairway door leading to the basement.

We stayed here for my birthday weekend and found the house to be the perfect combination of comfort and location. It has a nice front yard to relax in during the day and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. Gary is a welcoming host.
