Michael and Dot purchased this cabin in 1991
It is a Sweet and Gentle Cottage, that seems from a much earlier time. It is also a Great Value for those who just want a great truly removed get away to relax and explore the amazing natural beauty without breaking the bank! It is rustic yet modern, it is so tucked away but and totally secluded but only 15 min from most anything you desire. The nature there has never been disturbed and most of the millions of trees are old and full of character. The trails, creeks, water falls, pastures, graveyard and caves make for a ton of fun for the curious hiker. The 360 views from the house in the winter months of the mountains are stunning (180 views when the leaves are on the trees) and the 360 views year round from the pastures and creeks are year round.
seclusion and privacy, the huge parcel of land of 80 acres, with the option of utilizing the Large Log cabin as well about 4 acres away, the rustic real cottage feel, has charm, warmth and a simple sweet haven away from the madness we so need to escape from on occasion, the rustic, woodsy feel combined with modern conveniences. Also the amount of people that it can accommodate can be up to 14, but the prices remain affordable per person.
We stayed at this property during Thanksgiving 2014.
ALOT of problems with this place:
1. It's not 5-bedroom, it's 3-bedroom
2. It's not a cottage ... it's a double-wide mobile home
3. It is full of insects:
4. It was very dirty:
bird poop all over the place
grout coming out of tiling (don't walk barefooted!)
5. No Wi-Fi
6. washing machine runs on hot water only
7. dishwasher does NOT clean dishes at all
8. some of the cooking utensils are rusted
9. back door is extremely difficult to lock and keep closed
10. gravel road to "cottage" is not very smooth, with several holes, so drive very slow
Scenery is beautiful. Lots of ground to explore/hike. We tried to make the best of it.
I rented this place for the month of November. The Owner and I had several conversations before I rented it. He promised if I was not 100% satisfied with the property he would refund my money. We arrived on the first of November and the housekeeper was there finishing up. She was very pleasant and showed us around the home. She told us they were having an issue with ladybugs and left us a can of bug spray. I understand that. What I couldn't wrap my head around was the fact that she was there cleaning and just left the dead bugs on the floor and windowsills. The floors had not been mopped and behind and under the furniture had not been swept. The mop was in the corner bone-dry. One of the bedspreads was dirty. I was uncomfortable sleeping in a place that was unclean. I contacted the owner immediately and he offered to let us stay in the larger cabin for that night free but when we arrived the same housekeeper was there. She was again very nice and showed us around, including pointing out the dead bugs in the laundry room that she left there for us. After going out for dinner we talked it over and decided to stay in a clean hotel for the night. I contacted the owner again to let him know about our decision. I have not heard from him since. After several calls and texts messages he has not even returned my calls. I have offered to make a compromise of some sort if he is unable to refund my money but again, no response. DO NOT rent this place without purchasing travel insurance because if you are not satisfied you are just out the money you spent. I filed a formal complaint through the site but apparently they are not able to encourage him to make it right. Disappointed Renter
The Cottage is about 1/2 mile off of the secondary two lane very tucked away. It sits in a beautiful flat valley so the view from the valley center is 360 mountain views with a stream and a river behind the house about 200ft. The charm of the place is that it is so private and tucked away on 80 acres. We also have another cabin about 4 acres away but they are not at all insight of each other. Oak Ride, TN is about 6 miles away and has all the convinces you may need, such as Wal-Mart, Kroger, Restaurants and a Mall. Knoxville is 24 miles away, Galtinburg, TN and The Smokie Mountains are 1.5 hours away and so is the Builtmore House in Asheville, NC.
