Welcome to our 4-season vacation getaway on Whetstone Pond in Piscataquis County, Abbot, Maine. We offer the best of both worlds - all the amenities of modern living surrounded by the natural beauty of central Maine.
This isn't roughing it, that's for sure - satellite flat-screen TV, wifi internet, fully-equipped kitchen (microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, ...), clothes washer and dryer, beautiful Whetstone Pond just a few feet from the front door with glorious views of the water and surrounding mountains from two 2nd floor balconies and the deck - you can recharge your batteries quite nicely without ever leaving the property.
But if you're feeling adventerous and enjoy the outdoor life, there's no shortage of possibilities - hiking, fishing, whitewater rafting, ATV trails and, in the winter, snowmobile trails and cross-country skiing. One of our favorite outdoor activities is accessible from our front deck - a nightly show of stars and the Milky Way the likes of which you probably don't see from home. If you own a telescope or even a pair of binoculars, you'll be glad if you packed them along.
For the slightly less adventurous, there are small towns within easy driving distance that offer a variety of restaurants, gift shops, craft shops, museums and, along the way, plenty of yard sales with that local Maine flavor. Do you want to really rub elbows with the fine people who live in the area? Well then, you'll have to head on over to the Monson General Store on Friday evening for the weekly folk and bluegrass jam session. Bring your instrument if you have one - you're welcome to join in. There's also the monthly dance at the Finnish Dance Hall - come early for the half hour dance instruction and then hit the floorboards to the sounds of a live band and an experience you'll be telling your friends back home about.
This is just a taste what is available to you. Don't hesitate to contact us for more information or for any other reason.

We love Whetstone Pond and think it is one of the most beautiful ponds in the area. When this property came up for sale, we jumped at the opportunity to buy it and restore it to top shape.
The property sits at the point of Whetstone Pond and has possibly the best view of the pond and surrounding mountains. We decided to equip the house with all the latest amenities so that we, and renters, would have the choice of relaxing inside in the manner that modern families have become accustomed to or venturing out for all the activities that beckon in this area of Maine.
My wife and I, and our adult daughter & her boyfriend, spent four nights at this A-frame in early November. The cottage is very nicely furnished, well-appointed, beautifully situated at the northern end of a lovely lake (facing west for gorgeous sunsets), and conveniently located within an easy drive of many lakes & streams, the AT, Monson, Littlle Wilson Falls, Borestone Mountain Audobon Center & trails, and much much more. Although very isolated itself, the cottage is just a short drive from bakeries, restaurants, grocery stores, and anything else you might need. We will definitely return, as will most of our friends & family... You should, too! Bill & Kathy, Scarborough, ME
My husband and I rented this charming A Frame for the first time this summer. We had a wonderful, relaxing vacation for a week doing nothing but sitting on the back patio reading and enjoying the beautiful view of Whetstone Pond and surrounding mountains, listening to quiet! The photos on the website are wonderful and show the rustic charm of this cottage. The owners have done a great job renovating and updating to give it that log home feel. The pond is clear and cool, boating is easy to launch as a boat launch is right next to the cottage. Neighbors are very friendly, our dog met each of their dogs and got along famously. The owners have made it easy for renters as there is a caretaker close by if a problem arises during your stay. Greenville is about 30 minutes away full of shopping and great restaurants. The bakery in Abbot is wonderful for ice cream and treats. Guilford has a good IGA to get groceries before heading in to the cottage. All in all a great place to getaway and truly relax!
