Edenton House Rental Photos and Description

3 bedroom, 2 bath on Sound waterfront property with beautiful views

Want a well appointed and cozy home for your next getaway? With beautiful sunrises and sunsets, nature calling and a place to enjoy yourself, this is the place.

Before we get too far into the description, my wife and I want to thank everyone that has booked their vacation with us here. Everyone of you have been a pleasure to have here! Also, we thank all of you for helping keep this home in such good condition. In order to show our appreciation, we would like for those who would like to come back, and book their second or third time-- to receive a discount off of the rental price. If this is your second time we would like to take 10% off of the rental price, if it's your third visit,15%. Once again thank you. Let us know you have been here before and we will check our records and we will happily apply the discount.

No fighting the traffic or crowds, this lovely home is located on Holiday Island, a small residential community on the Albemarle Sound, it is 15 minutes away from the main roadway (Route 17 or also known as Ocean Highway). Located 30 minutes from Edenton and 30 minutes from Elizabeth City. 60-90 minutes from Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake (lots of military bases and museums) and the Outer Banks if you would like a day trip to the ocean without the expense and traffic. There are many small towns close by to visit and explore. The home has a fully equipped kitchen and sleeps 7 comfortably.

The home has been completely renovated and updated. The outside space of the home continuously gets changed with new features.

There is a 50' flat screen in the great room. Cable TV Wireless internet is provided. Pandora and Netflix are already on the TV sets.

The downstairs bedroom has a queen bed in the master bedroom with a TV. All the bedrooms have wonderful mattresses. One full is bath also located downstairs.

One upstairs bedroom has a full bed. The other upstairs bedroom has a twin over full bunk bed. There is one bathroom upstairs with a beautiful remodeled walk in shower.

All linens and towels are provided. Complimentary coffee, tea, sugar, creamer are in the cupboard.

There is a fire pit next to the beach and a picnic table not too far away to have lunch or a snack.

There are beautiful views from the sun room overlooking the water (just 50 feet away). Enjoy the wonderful southern breeze coming from over the water on the pier while watching the eagles, hawks, egrets and on rare occasions, dolphins. Deer are almost 'tame like' and don't seem to be afraid. They often come out and visit the beach area at night and you will occasionally see them during the day.

The children will enjoy using the cove, picking up clams or crabs off of its sandy bottom. They can enjoy kayaking in the shallow cove. For the more adventurous, there are many canals, and you can spend a few hours exploring them in the kayaks.

There are nine freshwater rivers that feed into this sound making it a great place to fish. So a boat would be really nice to have. We have just finished putting approximately 40-50 feet of a crush and run for additional parking for a boat trailer. The ramp is located in the community center about 3 minutes away. Fishing in the canals or out in the sound, you can catch catfish, flounder, croaker, large mouth bass, striped rockfish (striped bass), white perch, crappie, trout, speckled trout, puppy or slot drum (redfish), gray trout, spadefish, sheapshead, tautogs, bluefish, spanish mackerel. Anyone that has fished here has said that fishing was great.

There are also beach chairs, umbrellas, corn hole boards, floats, life jackets, swim floats, paddles for the kayaks and fishing rod holder for the brown kayak and a stereo for music outside of the house all located in renters shed.

4 kayaks for your use while visiting.

4 bicycles and a child's bike.

My wife has opened up an Art and Music Studio on the island called Rose Gate Studio for the Arts. It is located in the clubhouse on Holiday Island. If you are interested in doing some “one on one” art lessons, art projects with your family and friends or just music lessons, give us a call ahead of time. There are multiple instruments: Baby grand piano, guitar, harp, hammered dulcimer and banjo in the studio. Just call before and let us know when you plan to be down and what it is you would like to do and we will try to accommodate you. The website is RoseGateStudio.weebly.com.

There is also the New Hope Stables and Riding Academy located about 20 - 25 minutes from here that is available to go horseback riding or take lessons. It is located at 617 New Hope Rd Hertford, NC 27944 and their phone number is 252-312-9994. You can call ahead and schedule or discuss what you would like to do.

They are a family owned and operated. Specializing in promoting confidence in the horse and rider into harmony and on the path to correct riding. Also enjoy clients who lack confidence or have fear issues, beginners, and those with disabilities. Safety, classic equitation, and having a rider proceed at his/her own comfortable pace. They also have Hunt Seat, Jumping, and Basic Dressage, riding lessons with an emphasis on communication and horse care. Riders of all ages and riding ability are welcome. We want your horse experiences to be fun yet educational. You can not rent a horse there and ride off into the sunset. New Hope Stables is a place where everyone is treated like family. They have 24 years experience in this field.

Spa at Waterloo is located at 503 South Broad Street ,Edenton NC. 252 482 0988 by appointment. They offer full service from massages, facial & body treatments, pedicure, manicure, Heat therapy, waxing & tanning.

Edenton Coffee House at 302 S. Broad Street Edenton 252 482 7465 is similar to Starbucks. Only sells organic and free trade coffee, espressos, smoothies, teas, pastries, desserts, breakfast and lunch with live music on Fridays from 7-9PM

The swimming pool here is the largest one in the area and is family orientated. Large park with a huge covered area with swings for the children and a place to jump off of the side of the bulkhead into the water. Basket ball hoops, and a tennis court are also located in the community area. The Pool can rented out for a night along with the clubhouse for an event.

You can play golf on a PGA golf course at the Albemarle Plantation that is next door to Holiday Island. The PGA tournament was played there 2014. It is a private Golf and Marina Club, However the public is welcome to dine in their fabulous clubhouse and grill.

There are many 'mom and pops' stores and restaurants around here and we have included a list of them in the email attachment that you will receive when you book this home. There are also a lot of the franchise restaurants and stores too.

There are also Kayak tours in Edenton along with running and bicycle marathons. Edenton hosts yearly house tours of the historic district homes. Fourth of July Fireworks are absolutely awesome as you sit at the water's edge.

We have just listed a few of the things to do here in the area. There is so much more to do. We also have card games and board games here too. We do not have any game consoles.

About Nora Crouch

We lived in Virginia Beach, Va. and just moved Edenton North Carolina. We are home remodelers and keep very busy in this industry. We love the water and the serenity of nature.

Our home in Virginia Beach overlooked a beautiful reservoir where wildlife abounds. Our retirement dream was to find a home like ours in Virginia but smaller and on the intra-coastal waterway in a smaller community where peace and quiet abounds. That the idea of rush hour was that if you listened real carefully you might be able to hear the sound of a golf cart or a lonely car go by. I think I can say we succeeded in that point.

Nora Crouch purchased this house in 2012

Why Nora Crouch chose Edenton

My husband and I discovered Holiday Island while on a trip in 2012. We fell in love with the view from the home and its location midway between two wonderful towns---Edenton and Elizabeth City and part of the city Hertford. We were able to purchase the house and begin the process of creating our retirement paradise/resort. Along the way, our friends have been so interested in our project; they asked if they could rent it out for a weekend or week. We decided to make it available year round. Holiday Island is not a 'touristy destination'. It is just a wonderful area to relax, take a walk or just sip coffee (or wine). A 65 foot long pier has been built with a 16x24 platform at the end, We are adding an additional 100 feet of pier this year providing even more dazzling views, fishing and a wonderful time on the largest freshwater sound in the country at 55 miles long. We just recently acquired the lot right next door to the house which now provides an additional 81 feet of soundfront privacy. The pier is located inside of a cove. The water is 8-24 inches deep at the bulkhead and a couple of inches deeper at the end of the pier. At the edge of the cove the water is 5 feet deep, once outside of the cove it goes to 15-20 feet deep. The bottom of the cove is sandy with some sea grass. It is a great place to launch kayaks that are provided, or let the children play. The small beach is great for the children to build sand castles and they can hunt for treasures in the water. Or if you would like to plan a busy day, lay in the hammock and think about it in the shade. The newly acquired adjacent lot has enabled us to add an 85 foot beach, horse shoe pits, place to play corn hole, bocce or croquet along with a second pergola to relax and enjoy the beach.

What makes this house unique

Once you leave the island, the town of Hertford about 15 minutes away, which was chartered in 1758 making it the seventh oldest town on North Carolina. It is a lovely historic town with a pharmacy and a soda fountain counter. There is an art gallery and delightful lunch spots right on the main street.

The Albemarle Plantation is next door to Holiday Island. The public is welcome to dine in their fabulous clubhouse and grill. The food is super and we always feel welcome there! More information about restaurants and activities are available in the welcome package.

In this area, history abounds with Edenton established in November 6, 1712 and Elizabeth City in 1793. The Outer Banks, Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills and many other towns are an hour to an hour and half away. You can take a day trip to visit the ocean and avoid the traffic inconvenience and high cost of staying there. Of course, the fishing is great here and boating makes the area even more enjoyable. There are four kayaks on the property. You can rent additional boats from Hertford. You can bring your own boat and launch from the boat ramp on the island. The pier has approximately 16-20 inch water level in the summer and you can tie up your boat or PWC there.

Family Time

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd stay - and we loved it just as much as the 1st. We didn't think the place could get better but the owners proved us wrong with many new things! My favorite new thing was the hammock but the bikes were a close 2nd. The sandy beach was great too and our 2 youngest daughters spent lots of time playing there. Once again our 5 children (ages 18 to 5) LOVED staying here. Many hours were spent swimming, kayaking & crabbing in the Sound. Our favorite thing about this place remains

the dock - hands down. My husband & I spent lots of time in the mornings/evenings on the dock taking in the beautiful sight of the Sound and all it's features & creatures. Once again we saw Eagles, Ospreys, geese, ducks & seagulls. This place is a gem and we hope to stay again soon.

Owner's Response: We're very happy that your family enjoyed the home. One of our favorite parts is the pier too. We want to thank you for a wonderful review and let you know we really appreciate it. We look forward to having you come again. PS, the way you left the house was beyond and above.

So Peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

This was a beautiful spot to relax and unwind. We loved taking the kayaks out every day to explore the river and even do a little fishing. There were beautiful birds to watch and the sunrises and sunsets were spectacular. We always had something to do to keep us entertained from day trips to the NC Outer Banks to roasting s'mores in the fire pit at night. The accommodations were very comfortable and the owners had obviously carefully about conveniences. The original artwork was a happy bonus. This was the perfect place to recharge before the chaos of a new school year.

Relaxing retreat

  • 4 of 5

We very much enjoyed our time at this great vacation house. It is in a prime location for being away from it all. The back yard, private beach and seclusion on the cove are ideal. There are some neighbors but they were certainly not a bother. What a grand view one has from inside the home looking out the back doors and through the sun room windows. Access to the kayaks and bicycles made it more enjoyable as well. The owners have done a great job decorating the home. I would recommend this vacation house to anyone looking for a place for some down time.

Amazing! Amazing! Amazing!

Wow! We really enjoyed this home. The location was perfect for our needs and Mother Nature helped with the perfect weather. The home itself was very clean, something that is usually a toss up, professionally decorated and was equipped with everything one could possibly need. We loved the man made beach and the kyaks were great to relax in around the sound. Highly recommend!

Just Wonderful - So Relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful experience here at Waters Edge. The place is very clean, updated, and has all the amenities of home. I highly recommend it, but also want to keep this true gem a secret so it will be available to us when we need it! We played golf, watched sunrises and sunsets, went boating and caught lots of fish, went to the Outer Banks one day, Edenton, Hertford, all the wonderful surrounding towns where the people are so friendly. Thanks for making our stay so nice - we'll be back!

Once again thank you very much for choosing our place to stay.

Hands down our best short family vacation ever! This home is perfect in every detail. From the web site I knew this place would be nice but when we arrived we soon realized it was a pure GEM! We have 5 children ages 17 to 4 and they all had a GREAT time here. The look on our 7yr olds face when she walked in the door to this lovely home was priceless- love at first sight...and that was before she saw the slot machine in the Pirates Den ;) My 15yr is in love with the sea/beach décor. The Sound is so beautiful, my husband & I spent a lot of time out on the dock taking the beauty of it all in. Our older 2 had lots of hours of fun in the kayaks and all had fun swimming. We saw Bald Eagles on several occasions - that was WAY cool. All the kids enjoyed catching crabs and letting them go. BBQ is great and we put it to use a lot on our stay. The owners have such a flair for details and we are so thankful that we were able to stay and are looking forward to coming back as soon as we can!
