From a distance, it looks rugged. With its rough-hewn timber columns and notched, interlocking corners stacked like Lincoln logs, this three bedroom cabin, four miles south of Donnelly and footsteps from the docks at Boulder Creek State Park, was indeed built as a refuge for anglers and snowmobilers anxious to play in and around the lake. But look closer: The energy efficient windows and the sliding patio doors tell you that inside, this is a place that's comfortable, warm, and modern. So pull the boat around and park the ATVs; there's plenty of room for those too. Welcome to Wildwood Donnelly Cabin, the perfect headquarters for your forays onto Lake Cascade and the trails and forests of the West Mountains beyond!
The cabin has a big, open living area with an adjoining kitchen. On cold nights, grab a couple logs, feed the charming pot-bellied stove and listen to the fire crackle as you sip your cocoa or coffee. Watch a movie on the DVD player or cozy up with a good book. With extensive track lighting and numerous, big windows, the interior is bright and welcoming. Step out on the large, wrap-around deck and savor the peace and quiet - a natural bonus with this location!
There are three bedrooms, and Wildwood Donnelly will sleep six comfortably. Downstairs, you'll find a bedroom with a queen bed and a comfy wicker chair, and another with two twin beds. Upstairs is the master suite with a private bath under a beautiful hardwood ceiling and exposed timbers. There's another bathroom on the main level. The cabin also has a washer and dryer. (H2O advisory: Donnelly's water supply has higher levels of iron. Though it's entirely safe for drinking, it tends to leave stains that, unfortunately, resist the efforts of even the most diligent housekeeper!)
Meals should be easy. This cabin's modern, fully stocked kitchen has what you'll need to make everything from pancakes in the morning to pasta at dinner. Your cook will have plenty of room to maneuver, lots of counter space, and a dishwasher for easy clean up. When it's warmer outside, throw some surf and turf on the gas grill out on the deck and have a barbeque. There are five restaurants in nearby Donnelly, so either check out their menus ahead of time, or take your chances. (Sorry, there's no internet connection).
With Lake Cascade so close by, the water is a natural magnet for activities of all kinds. In summer, it's host to boaters, water skiers, and anglers of all sorts. The North Fork of the Payette River is close by where kayakers and rafters can have their day. To the east is Boise National Forest. To the west, forming a natural boundary to the towns of Cascade, Donnelly, and McCall, are the West Mountains. This range gets an incredible amount of snow, so it's a very popular spot for skiers and snowmobilers in the winter. Skiers can head over to Brundage or Tamarack, both less than an hour's drive on the other side of the lake. Golfers have eight golf courses to choose from, all between three and 14 miles of Donnelly. And if you're in Donnelly the beginning of August, help them celebrate the harvest at their annual Huckleberry Festival.
So park your vehicles in the circular driveway, come on in and relax in this charming cabin before you head out onto Lake Cascade and all points beyond!
