Upon returning from several years living Asia in the late 60's and early '70's, we acquired a 19th century barn. In 1972 we had it disassembled and moved the materials to our site. We designed and built 'Mont House,' as our boys called it that year.
Stellan and Jane Wolllmar purchased this chateau / country house in 1973
We bought the property because we loved the area and enjoyed skiing. We learned to enjoy the summers as much as the winters in the Valley and met several families to play with. We spent all long weekends and school vacations in Fayston with family and friends.
The site of our home is with fantastic views east and south; we also appreciate the privacy of 8 acres on a town dirt road that dead-ends. There are many nature walks and places to enjoy peace and quiet, yet it is minutes to the village.
We are located 1.2 miles off Rt 100 on 8 acres of meadow and woodlands on a dead-end dirt road. From the door cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, and sledding are available. Two major alpine ski areas: Sugarbush and Mad River Glen are 15 minutes away, Walks down a dead-end dirt road are possible, as are hikes at any number of locations. Cross-country skiers can join other roads and logging roads from the house, and there are several areal cross-country ski areas. Sledding is possible on the property and its surroundings. Sugarbush and Mad River Glen have youth adventure programs and child care as well as all levels of ski instruction. Outdoor town ice rink 10 minutes away, with classes and indoor skating,in nearby Waterbury. In Waterbury also a cider mill and museum, Ben and Jerry's ice cream factory with tours.Stowe (half an hour away) has an Alpine Slide. Burlington (an hour away)is a major city with shopping malls, restaurants, theaters, university sports and cultural programs. There is also ECHO Maritime Museum on Lake Champlain in Burlington.
