About Owner / Property Manager

I purchased the house in 2007 and immediately initiated a large scale renovation and remodel project. My inspirations were the Tuscan kitchens I saw during a year in Italy and my desire for a fun and loving space for my two children. The kitchen is the social and architectural heart of the house. Houses of the early 1900's did not focus on large social spaces. I decided to remove the partition between the dining room and kitchen to create a large social space. The kitchen is vast and very 'gourmet.' You can cook while talking to family and friends seated at the breakfast counter or in the dining room. I also created what the kids and I called the 'gourmet' bathroom of the second floor. It features a large multi-fixtured shower complete with body jets, a heated tile floor and a Japanese toilet with heated seat and bidet functions. Finally, we created a 'kid recreation zone' in the daylight basement which has a ping pong table, large sectional couch and home theater. Over the years, we noted that the 'kid recreation zone' became favored by the adults as much as by the children. br br

The Ravenna Farmhouse has facilitated great joy for my family and many others. I hope you enjoy your stay.

What makes this house unique

The Ravenna Farmhouse has served families since the early 1900's. 10 years ago I received a letter from a local antiques dealer He had found a letter written from the owners of the house in 1918. It was long, and beautifully written with the grammar of the time. Most significant to me was the author's (mother of the family) comments on the great flu pandemic of 1918. She was relieved that no one in the family had succumbed to the flu but there were many in the city who had. I later found out that she and her husband were on the building committee of the historic University Church on the corner of 15th Ave NE and NE 50th St, a few blocks from the house.

br br

The neighborhood is a wonderful example of how good urban living can be. You can walk to a variety of small businesses, the UW Bookstore, and movie theaters in the University Ave zone. You can walk to Whole Foods in the nearby Roosevelt District. And you can walk down 'secret stairs' or via the streets to the University Village, the premiere shopping mall of Seattle. The University of Washington is also a very short walk and is one of the most beautiful campuses in the country. It also hosts a variety of entertainment events. The neighborhood food options are truly unlimited. For Chinese food, you can have a world class experience at Din Tai Fung at the University Village. For Mexican food, Aqua Verde near the UW Campus not only has top quality food, you can also rent a sea kayak there and kayak on Lake Union. For a romantic evening, our favorite local place was Pair, which I would describe as French Tapas place.

br br

My personal favorite aspect of the Ravenna House experience was walks in the neighborhood to Ravenna Park, just a few blocks away. It is a Ravine in which you can bike or walk surrounded by lush green trees. Both ends of the park feature newly renovated playgrounds.

We came up from Arizona for a football game and decided to stay near campus. The Ravenna house was perfectly located in a quiet neighborhood. I can't say enough good things about the house or the setting. I highly recommend this house to anyone considering it!

Reviewer Comments:
Very nice older craftsman style home. The house is very big, nicely updated kitchen and great family den/basement space. Our only complaint would be the stairs leading to the bedrooms upstairs are so incredibly squeaky!! Same goes for the floors upstairs. Other than that, we were really happy with our stay there.

Reviewer Comments:
The house was beautiful with plenty of room for everyone! The little nooks (sun room, room off of bedroom, window seat in LR) were great for curling up and reading, or reading a story to a little one. Great kitchen for family meals, comfy beds after a long day. Made our family-sized wedding areal delight. The nearby park had nice trails for walking too.

Since Sea to Sky is so responsive I have two tiny suggestions: a few extra tea towels (kitchen) would have been nice, and the addition of scissors or kitchen shears would make the kitchen completely flawless! Great company to deal with--made the whole experience easy.

We had a great time!

Loved the older neighbor hood, amazing to sit on the porch and look at 100 year old cedar trees. Neighbors were fantastic. Tons of space, bedding and bathroom supplies.

Perfect spot for a great trip.

Reviewer Comments:
This beautifully renovated house is perfect for enjoying meals and relaxing with family and friends. It is spacious and very comfortable throughout. Drive way parking is a true luxury in this neighborhood of narrow, tree lined streets!
One upstairs full bathroom shared by four upstairs bedrooms (up to 9 guests) is a problem! We were disappointed that there was no outdoor furniture available to enjoy the deck and yard, additional beautiful spaces that MUST be used on sunny Seattle days.
Wash cloths are essential to a bathroom and one roll of paper towels is hardly enough for a large group gathering.
The longer this home is on the rental market, the better it will become for those lucky enough to visit Seattle.

Owner's Response: Lesley thanks so much for writing a review. I am so happy you enjoyed the beauty of this home. I understand showering can be a bit tricky with only 1 upstairs bathroom. Hopefully the luxury of that bathroom with its Japanese toilet, giant shower with multiple shower heads and heated floor in part made up for the inconvenience. I also hope that the full downstairs bathroom with it's own shower helped as well. I very much appreciate your thoughtful comments on making the property even better for future guests. To that end, we have added outdoor furniture as well as expanding the bathroom and kitchen supplies. If you're ever back and you find yourself in a bind for more washcloths, toilet paper or anything else just give our office a call and we will jump on it! Thanks for the tips and we hope to have you back again to receive your 5% returning customer discount.
