This is a great property and every bit as good as it looks in the photos. Dinners on the lanai, overlooking the pool and the ocean were especially memorable. The floorplan and pool make the house a perfect fit for a family. The owners are great and answered all questions, e-mails or calls promptly. We appreciated the fresh flowers and welcome basket of Hawaiian treats. You couldn't ask for a better experience. This is a great house, in a great location, with great amenities at a great value. Why pay more for a condo when you can get your own house with its own private pool? It's perfect for a small family and I highly recommend it!

Beautiful setting-very relaxing!

We enjoyed our stay at Hale Wela very much. It turns out we have rented this house twice before over the past 20 years, from previous owners, so it truly was like coming home. It is clean and the landscaping is lovely. The pool is good sized and was good for my husband to lap swim and/or just floating around in the sun. It is well furnished and has a great kitchen, we loved eating meals outside by the pool or at the Lanai dining table. We found a great Thai restaurant, The Lotus Cafe, just a few miles away behind the Costco store. All food is made from scratch and locally sourced. There are a couple small markets and a fish market (small boat harbor), closer than Kailua, so you don't have to drive all the way to town. We took a fun snorkel with Sea Paradise tours, saw whales, dolphins and coral. We were even well fed! Paradise Helicopters offers great tours in very nice, clean copters. We were able to see the lava glowing, flowing and running into the sea. The weather was perfect.
All in all, Hale Wela is STILL a great house to stay in! It had everything we needed and more (lots of channels on the Dish TV and great WiFi hookup). The Star Fruit and Pomelos in the backyard were ripe and quite tasty.
We brought my 84 year old Mom with us on this trip. Not sure how many more 6 hour plane rides she has left. She loved the house, the food, the pool, the flowers, the view and the 'soft air'. We enjoyed eating breakfast with the Geckos and large 'Madame Spider' every day by the pool. They really know how to keep the bug down!
We all had a wonderful time and wish or thank Jules and Bear for making this wonderful property available to we sun starved travelers from the North!

What a Great Decision!

We (three adults and one toddler) truly enjoyed our stay at this house! The open floor plan made it easy to relax and talk while we mingled between our freshly mashed guacamole and the pool. Both bedrooms were roomy and had flat-screen tv's. The master bath has a walk-in closet, which we were able to use as a sleeping area for our toddler; the owners provide a pack & play as well as a crib, and the crib slid right right into the closet with plenty of room to spare.

The house it up on a hill, which provides privacy as well as an awesome platform to view Kona's beautiful sunsets. The pool is a bit chilly but you get used to it. Having total privacy on the pool deck is an easy sell. A quick drive and you are in "downtown" Kona, where you can appreciate your good decision not to rent a condo. We were relatively close to the beaches we wanted to hit, but also didn't have far to drive to get to places like the Capt. Cook monument.

Overall, no complaints! A great stay in a beautiful house. We can't wait to come back!

great Kona getaway

I live in Waipio Valley on the rainy, windy side of the island. I come to Kona to get out of the rain as often as I can. This house was an excellent choice. My girlfriend has 2 kids who spent most of their time in the pool & loved it. I highly recommend this house for anyone who wants privacy, but still wants to be close to town. Jesse, the property manager (who lives across the street) was more than helpful & very knowledgeable about the house & activities on the island. Mahalo for a great experience. Jimmy.
