La Rocca is a unique villa, built within the ramparts of an ancient Castello of the medieval town of Coreglia in the beautiful and unspoilt Garfagnana / Mediavalle area of Tuscany.

This is a wonderful opportunity to experience life within the walls of an ancient castle in the centre of a medieval Tuscan village. The villa enjoys excellent views over the village rooftops and mountains beyond. The large and well kept garden has several peaceful areas, all within the perimeter wall of the old castello.

The rooms are comfortably furnished with antiques and reminders of past times, giving the villa an interesting and unique atmosphere. The decoration is beautifully old fashioned, with ceiling frescos and other unusual features.

There is an 8 x 3 metre 'fun' pool in the garden, good for playing in or cooling off.

There are 3 bedrooms in this apartment, 2 doubles and 1 twin.

The ancient walled town of Coreglia is difficult for vehicles to access so the peaceful village is very safe for children to explore, enjoying the freedom that children seldom have nowadays. During summer there are festivals within the Old Town, including an excellent medieval festival in July.

There are 3 restaurants and 2 cafes in the town.

The medieval town of Barga, with its jazz and opera festivals is a few kilometres away and can be seen from the village.

This beautiful, unique old castello villa has a superb garden with a private pool. Free Wi-Fi connection is available in the house.

Coreglia is an ancient hill town, voted some years ago to be one of the nicest villages in Italy. The streets are traffic free, making it safe for children to explore. Recently the village featured in the BBC programme 'Who do you think you are' which traced the actress Susan Sarandon's family to Coreglia. The village was famous in the 19C for its beautifully crafted figurines, and there is an interesting museum dedicated to the art. In 2005 Coreglia was voted as one of the nicest villages in Italy

The Garfagnana/ Mediavalle area is recreational, superb for walking, mountain biking, fishing and other outdoor activities. We have links with an outdoor activities agency 'Apuans Exploring Mountains'. Nearby Castelnuovo is a market town with fine shops and a weekly market. Also nearby are the resort towns of Bagni di Lucca, with its famous spa baths, and Barga, with its music festivals and art. The art city of Lucca is only 30 minutes drive, and there is a local train service.

The location of the house is spectacular - great views and garden and the height of the place ensures a freshness of air which was very welcome in August. Facilities were good, lots of nice places to sit in the large garden and some toys, swing and slide for chlldren although a toddler swing would be a good idea (was quite frustrating for our toddler not to be able to use it). Pool was fine - worked for us because we had very small children and so we didn't have to worry about them falling in but a proper pool would look a lot better. Some of the furniture could do with an update - garden chairs and the mattress in the second smaller room but all in all good value for money compared to similar lets in the region and a lovely, relaxing place to stay. We all had a great time and would definitely come back.

Having recently returned from our stay at La Rocca I would just like to say what an absolutely fantastic holiday we had.
A good and informative welcome from Nora who we met up with very easily at Bar Roma.
The house and grounds were just glorious with breathtaking views and felt it was a privilege to stay there.
The house was comfortable and gloriously quirky with bags of character. We loved it.
We had some great walks in the countryside and the forests.
The town and its inhabitants were friendly and warm and we enjoyed shopping there, in the small supermarket if we were unsure of something we were offered a sample before we bought. A very nice experience,
as was the practice of leaving some fresh produce on the doorstep in the mornings.
A very tiny thing, there were plenty of deckchairs but only one sun-lounger!
I'm now harbouring a desire to return.
