About owner/property manager

I am a proud native Portlander. I grew up here in the N/NE Portland I went to Grant High School and graduated from Portland State. I have watched this neighborhood blossom around me. I bought this home 13 years ago and have lived in it off and on for the last 12 years. The last 3 summers I have rented the home to a family from Philadelphia while I traveled, so I figured why not rent it all year around! I still live in the neighborhood.

owner/property manager purchased this house in 1999

Why owner/property manager chose Portland

I bought this property because I was worried that if I didn't get a peice of the neighborhood I grew up in, that it was going to all get bought up!

What makes this house unique

I grew up in the Historical Irvington neighborhood here in NE Portland and have always loved older turn of the century homes. Pretty bay windows, built ins and hardwood floors. There is something cozy and comforting in these older homes for me.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks, Mark.  Our family very much enjoyed our stay at your house--it was perfect!  This was our first time renting a house, but thanks to how well things went it won't be our last time!

House with character

  • 5 of 5
If you enjoy old houses with character in a great walking area, this is the place for you. This house has a fun attic and another 'secret' attic that our 2 1/2 year old grandson loved. House is roomy with mostly new appliances, but kitchen IS vintage. Area offers lots of restaurants and food trucks within an easy walk. We truly enjoyed our stay.

Great Family home, super location, responsive owner

  • 5 of 5
We rented the bungalow over the Thanksgiving holiday. We could not have been more pleased. It was a great spot with plenty of room and a well equipped kitchen. The location is ideal to the Mississippi and Alberta neighborhoods. We had good weather for the most part, but this would have been a fun location to be able to enjoy the backyard during the sunny summer as well.

The owner was responsive to our requests and refunded our security deposit even before we landed back home. Can't ask for better than that!

We would give the Mississippi Bungalow our highest recommendation.

Worked perfectly for our needs!

This house was perfect for our needs. We're a tv crew and filmed in the house. It looked great on camera and was spacious enough for camera / lights setup. Overall- it was a pleasure renting from Mark and appreciate him accommodating our needs.

Relaxing Weekend

  • 5 of 5
Clean and simple place. Nice to relax on the comfy couches in the living room. Some traffic noise from buses going by, but not a problem in the bedrooms. Easy check out tasks. Really enjoyed our stay - easy freeway access and quick to get down to all the great restaurants on Alberta. Owner is easy to contact and helpful with questions.

Lots of character and handy location

  • 5 of 5
This house has lots of character and is within walking distance to some great shops and restaurants in the Mississippi district. Also handy to the I5 freeway which makes it easy to come and go from other Portland attractions. We brought our bikes and were happy to have handy, secure bike storage in the back. We will return.

Mississippi Bungalow Review

  • 5 of 5
This rental was great. I was concerned, initially, since it was not on a max line and I wasn't too sure of the bus system. But there was no need for concern. The bus, which is about 1/2 block from the house, went everywhere we wanted to go in Portland, such as the park, downtown, and out of the way restaurants. And a bus comes every 15 minutes, so if you just miss one, you don't have to wait long for the next.

The Mississippi Avenue area, about a 10-15 minute walk away, is great for restaurants, drinks, coffee, and cute, trendy shops. You can also take the bus straight there, if walking that distance is a bit much.

The house itself is charming, and each bedroom is well insulated against the noise others in your group may make while you sleep. The kitchen was fine, and the living areas and bedrooms were very large.

Car: not necessary

This home is in the Mississippi neighborhood, close to numerous restaurants, bars, and music venues. There is a Coffee shop (Albina Press) just a half a block away. There is also Trebol which is a Mexican restaurant which offers the Northwest's largest tequila selection paired with traditional Oaxacan food. Prost is also a popular bar specializing in German beer with amazing food carts surrounding it. One of my favorite spots is Mississippi Pizza also on Mississippi Ave. Williams Ave and Alberta St. - Good food, shopping, art and character unique to Portland. Google these streets to get a flavor. Mississippi Ave begins 3 blocks from the house. This home is also just 1 mile from Downtown and the Pearl District.
