We are from Coastal North Carolina and have been coming to this area for 20 years. We fell in love with the laid back lifestyle and the beautiful rural blue ridge mountains of Virginia. We have recently made this area our home.
Kim Snow purchased this cabin in 2008
We were riding around looking at the beautiful backroads of the area and came across a for sale sign, pulled in and fell immediately in love with this property.
The picture of the outside of the house does not do it justice. You need to experience the setting of the cabin, the landscaping, the sound of the water going over the rocks in the creek, the peacefulness.
An excellent place for our long weekend with the now-grown kids. Well-designed and maintained place with nice kitchen and log cabin style. Fall colors on the deck were fantastic, and the stream that's just downhill sounded great. Good easy hiking nearby at Rocky Gorge and Buffalo Mountain; within day trip distance of Grayson Highlands and Mount Rogers. Nice fire pit and very quiet.
This could not have been a more perfect vacation getaway. The photos don't actually do the house justice~ it is cozy yet very spacious and clean and very well appointed. The setting is so serene I would have been happy just to lounge around the entire time , but we had 5 children with us and they had different ideas! There are several outdoor areas to enjoy ~ the huge back porch which overlooks the creek( STUNNING view), the front porch with porch swing and the pergola covered patio with swing and awesome fire pit/ cowboy grill.
Indoors the same is true- there are several areas for hanging out, all of them comfortable and cozy. The beds are comfortable with luxurious linens. The kitchen has everything you need to create gourmet meals ~ and there is also a large gas grill on the back porch and the cowboy grill on the patio. ( which I found to be an absolute pleasure to barbecue on. Do try it)
The cabin is located very near the town of Hillsville , which has a nice grocery store, restaurants and shops. It is also convenient to many area attractions. The only thing I would change if I could would be easier access to the creek, though I understand how this would be an expensive and daunting undertaking~ as the grade is steep and the ground is soft. We saw several deer both in the yard and in the creek. We did not encounter one single mosquito and we spent every evening out on the porch.
All in all this was my dream vacation home. We all hated to leave and we cannot wait to go back. If you love gorgeous views, comfort and serenity you will love Kim and Wiley's gorgeous cabin.
My husband and I, along with another couple, spent 3 nights at this wonderful cabin. It was amazing from the start. It was very clean. It was warm and cozy. It was secluded yet close enough to everything we wanted to see and do.
The owner was very easy to work with. They stayed in constant communication with us right up till the time of our trip. They were very eager to answer any questions we had about the area.
Everything about this weekend getaway was AMAZING! We hated to leave. If we come back to this area, we would definitely stay there again!!!!
Three couples enjoyed our stay at this quiet, roomy comfortable lodge, nice bedrooms lots of bathrooms, beautiful views. Big leather sectional to watch a football game after a day of riding the New River trail. Loved having the window open so to hear the gurgling stream below. We weren't there long enough to meet the neighbors. Our only disappointment we couldn't find a deck of cards. The Snows were very helpful as well. Thanks so much.
I do not know what to say to make it any better than the other reviews but we were there an entire week and loved every minute of it. The cabin was wonderful and pleasantly decorated and has anything you can possibly need. The deck overlooks a wonderful mountain stream and we saw a deer in the creek on two different days and also had three deer walk in the yard! I didn't tell Wiley the buck was eating his rose bush???? Really, you could not ask for any better than this. Wiley and Kim were both excellent to work with and went out of there way to make our stay very pleasant. Wiley even called the one neighbor to see if we could stroll through their property to look at their area at the creek and it was awesome. The neighbor said if we wanted to make a picnic and bring over at the stream or just put chairs down by the creek, we were welcome to do so. If you are planning on visiting this area, you need to put this place on your radar. Thank you Kim and Wiley for sharing your cabin with us.
There were 3 couples here from 8/8 to 8/11 and this location was easy to find! There is always a bit of doubt that the pictures on the listing may not be exactly what you see when you get there, but this was not the case! This cabin was better than the pictures for sure! We grilled out every evening, the kitchen was fully equipped for our needs. Quality of the beds were exceptional. The 3 bathrooms were definitely a plus for what we wanted for our accommodations. We met the neighbors during our visit and had a great time visiting with them. There was no cell phone service but had use of the landline at this rental and truly we did not need our cell phones. The internet connection was great! The only drawback was there was not a DVD player in the main room where we could all watch a movie but one of couples remedied this and bought one at a pawn shop and movie night was a success! The deck was awesome! We could listen to the creek below and to me that equates to being able to hear the ocean when you are at the beach. "Creek Front" is a great amenity to have at this property. Didn't get the chance to use the Cowboy grill but wanted to and will say this was very unique to this property and hope when we visit again to give this a whirl. Thoroughly satisfied with our visit and lucky we found such a great place to spend time with our friends!
Located just minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, enjoy breakfast at Mabry Mill, wine tasting and tours at Chateau Morrisette, Villa Appalachia, and Foggy Ridge or visit the many antique shops or golf courses in the area. You can also access the creek for kayaking and tubing.
