My husband and I have travelled the world and finally settled in this beautiful paradise, called Abaco.
Penny Vaughan purchased this house in 2000
After hurricane Floyd, our house was very badly damaged, so repair was necessary. We had a plot of land next door and decided to build two rental homes...we must have been mad to do all three at the same time! its turned out brilliantly and we love renting Palm and Hibiscus as we meet so many interesting people.
Come and see for yourselves!
We’ve stayed in the house 10 days. Our 3 girls (4, 8 and 10) have very much enjoyed the swimming pool, nice beach as well as the beautiful view from all the terraces. For those who are looking for quiet, peaceful, beautiful, friendly, save, worm, family oriented holiday we definitely recommend the island and Hibiscus House. We have also enjoyed the support we’ve received from the owner before we arrived and during our stay, from all the people around, helping us to spent the very beautiful Easter holidays!
We have been going to this property for the last few years and love every minute of our stay there. To be able to have your own private beach surrounded by the most beautiful blue water is Paradise Found. We rented a boat that we moored right by the house and we were able to go off to many of the outer Cays to snorkel and have lunch. The house is bright, clean with fabulous views from all sides. The pictures do not capture the beauty of the area. The owners who live next door were very helpful and accommodating during our stay. I highly recommend this property to families, couples and anyone who would like to get away and enjoy the peaceful, quiet beauty of the Abacos
If you love pristine water and island adventures, you must visit the Abacos. Now imagine a slim finger of land sticking out into the Sea of Abaco from the hub of the Abacos, and you have the Eastern Shores area of Marsh Harbor. Hibiscus House sits in the center of the Eastern Shores, surrounded by the Sea of Abaco. Walk out the front door, take a few steps to your left, and you are on a lovely, private, white sand beach. Swim out and look for bonefish, grunts, starfish, and the occasional ray or barracuda. On the other side of the house is your dock, with room for a rental boat from which Hope Town, Great Guana, Man-O-War, Mermaid, Sandy Cay and Fowl Cay Reefs, Tahiti Beach and the Tilloo Bank are a short sprint away. Return to Hibiscus House from a day of boating and relax in the private pool while watching the sun slowly cross to the West.
We had the time of our lives here. Hibiscus House is spacious, exceptionally clean, and well-equipped for a family with young or teenage kids or several couples looking for a get-away. Hibiscus was spotless when we arrived. The kitchen, dining and living areas are large and open, with plenty of natural light and sweeping views of the Sea of Abaco. Young kids will love the pool, and swimming in the crystal-clear water off the private beach is blissful. Penny and Jimmy are wonderful hosts who live next door and are eager to answer any question, fix any small glitch, and give an impromptu lesson in boat-docking and knot-tying. The house has all the creature comforts you would want in a beach getaway, is stocked with all the essentials, and is whimsically decorated with island colors. There are several great dinner spots close by in Marsh Harbor, but we couldn't stand to leave Hibiscus House in the evening, and so most nights we spent dinner time on our deck after a late afternoon swim on the beach. The location is ideal, a 5-minute drive to Marsh Harbor shops, restaurants, and the supermarket, yet on a quiet, one-lane road.
Hibiscus House is so comfortable, clean, and spacious, and perfectly situated, you will swear that you have arrived at your own spot of paradise. You will have a tough time finding a lovelier house from which to discover the beauty of the Abacos. The photos give you a good idea of the house, but they understate the beauty of the location and surrounding water, which must be seen first-hand. We recommend Hibiscus to water and boat lovers of all ages, with or without kids.
We enjoyed our visit, even though the diving was generally poor (rough water, limited visibility). The dive master said "it was great last month". Oh, well. We met our son and his wife and brought along our college age daughter, so there was plenty of room in the VRBO house that had great views and a nice setting. And you do need a car, because it is pretty far from restaurants, grocery stores (bring as many groceries as you can--it is very expensive on the island) and other attractions, including the dive shop. The house was disappointing in that it was somewhat run down and not well cared for. For example, the microwave was falling off the wall, the bed in the master had a steel frame that protruded into the room so as be sure a smack your ankles, the master bath valve did not work properly, the toilet barely flushed, and the sink stopper did not work. Cleaning supplies for the kitchen were missing, and when we asked for some, we were told to buy our own. Dishes and glasses were mix and match. The sliding glass doors did not work properly and were difficult to close and lock. For the price, the house was not up to the standard of places we have rented in NYC and Cozumel, Mexico, nor was it accurately described in the listing. The owners lived next door and were accommodating in providing information and suggestions for our trip. But this place needs some updated beds, bedding, and TLC.
My family just spent the holidays at Hibiscus House, and it was absolutely fantastic. The house is even better than what you see in the pictures here, particularly the views, with water completely surrounding you on all sides. There was also a wonderful breeze coming off the water and through the house at all times of day, which made a couple of the really hot days much better. We particularly loved how quiet and secluded the Eastern Shores part of Marsh Harbour was, while still being within a pretty easy walk to town/restaurants and the ferry dock, which was great for getting to other islands in the Abacos. The owners live nearby and were completely accommodating and helpful with any questions we had about the house and the area both via email leading up to and during our stay. Overall, I would highly recommend this house, we may even go again.
Wonderful, peaceful, quiet setting with some of the amazing views. You wouldn't want to go inside the house from the second floor deck at night once you look up to be awestruck by the sky with millions of twinkling stars looking right at you. Just loved it(I stayed on the deck till at times I was trembling,it did get cold for couple of nights).
Located on exclusive Eastern Shores and convenient to local shops and restaurants, these new properties are built to a very high standard. Each bedroom has its own bathroom, pool is outdoors on the decking and multi level decks overlook breathtaking views of the sea and cays beyond. Enjoy the beautiful sunsets or just gaze at the stars. A great place for tanning or dining alfresco style. Only a few footsteps will bring you to a private beach. These are great homes for large groups and family reunions, executives, couples travelling together. Suggest car and/or boat rental.
