This cozy apartment in an authentic turn-of-the-century brownstone has been updated for convenience but retains the original detail that makes Manhattan brownstones the most sought after residences in the city. Light and airy, this charming apartment features the original fireplace, mantel and moldings. This studio apartment has a separate bedroom area with a comfortable full size bed, a living room/dining area with a sleep futon-type sofa (and an available full-size Aerobed, if needed), a full size kitchen and full bathroom with a tub/shower. The apartment is air-conditioned and heated with hot water radiators that have their own controls. Satellite TV and secure WiFi are included. There are three other apartments in the building with separate bedrooms and queen size beds.
The apartment is located on a tree-lined street in the heart of New York's most desirable neighborhood, the Upper West Side. Just one and a half blocks from Central Park in one direction and one and a half blocks from Riverside Park (overlooking the Hudson River) in the other, the apartment is just steps from several subway and bus lines, making all of the city's wonderful attractions easily and quickly accessible. Cabs are always readily available, just outside the front door and many highlights are within easy walking distance. A short cab, bus or 10-minute subway ride puts you right in the heart of midtown with the theatre district, Carnegie Hall, Rockefeller Center, Empire State Building, Times Square, the shopping of Fifth Avenue and MOMA. You can walk to Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and the fabulous Museum Mile, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Whitney Museum of American Art, the Guggenheim, The Museum of the City of New York, etc. The Museum of Natural History is within blocks, as is the NY Historical Society with its fascinating exhibits. SoHo and Tribeca, with their unique, interesting shops and galleries, are a quick subway ride away. This Upper West Side neighborhood was recently featured as New York's hottest restaurant row - the neighborhood is teeeming with reasonably priced, outstanding restaurants of all varieties as well as wonderful places to shop for gourmet foods, NY bagels, groceries, etc. - the famous Zabar's and a wonderful new Whole Foods Market are both a 5-minute walk away. NY's famous and unique Fairway Market is a quick subway, bus, cab ride or 15-minute walk away. Virtually every store and restaurant in the area delivers to your apartment. There are several health clubs and yoga studios within a few blocks that welcome drop-in guests. Both Central Park and Riverside Park have biking/walking paths that are closed to traffic.
very close/walking distance to subway and Central Park. safe area. owner responds quickly and was "spot on" with subway directions from JFK (thank you). Kitchen was newly done - perfect for morning coffee and deli dinners at home. Hair dryer, umbrellas and other "in apartment" amenities were used and appreciated. We loved being in a 100-yr old Brownstone. Lots of character with wood floors, wood shutters, cast iron wall heaters and old bathroom tile. It was perfectly adequate and clean - enough space for two people. I rate 4+...would rate 5-star if apartment had a little more décor/TLC and usable fireplace. We like being upstairs/3rd floor. Quiet - didn't hear or see anyone else in the building. It was a nice mini winter vacation to NYC. (p.s. many restaurants a few blocks away, include Manhattan Diner on 95 and Broadway...excellent)
My husband and I have always wanted to stay in a brownstone, and this one was well worth the wait. Within walking distance to several shops and great restaurants this quaint dwelling was just what we needed. With extremely friendly and helpful tenants, easy access to the subway and beautiful surroundings, we would definitely enjoy staying here again!
If you want a good night's sleep and easy access to public transportation to the sights, this is a great rental. Although the original apartment we inquired about wasn't available, the owner had another in the same building which is very similar to the pictures above but with a separate bedroom and smaller kitchen. The owner was exceptionally easy and to communicate with and quickly supplied additional information when I asked for it. The bed was very comfortable, and the apartment is safe, clean and quiet. The location was perfect for us, very close to two subway stops which provided access to midtown within about 10 minutes on the express lines. We were just a couple of blocks from Central Park and stops for the crosstown buses over to the museums on the East Side (or you could do like we did and just walk), and we were also just about 5 blocks from the Whole Foods market on 97th.
Ray's apartment in the UWS is a great place to stay when in NYC. Easy to get to from LGA, JFK or EWR. Spacious (for NYC), clean, and in a great location. Tons of restaurants in the area, close to the 96th street express 1,2, & 3 trains (enter at 93rd) to take you downtown. Quiet and clean building with easy access, unlike many of the places you would stay in midtown. Away from the noise of the touristy areas. Comfortable amount of space and certainly the best you will find for <$200 a night in NYC. I highly recommend booking this place for your stay.
Took my son on a 2 week vacation recently and being able to rent in a Brownstone made us feel so New York! Our hosts were very welcoming and a pleasure to meet. Location was super - close to Central Park, subway, museums, etc. Apartment was clean and neat. Slept very soundly in the bedroom; my son took the Aerobed, which he said was very comfortable as well. Kitchen had everything we needed and was put to good use. Can't wait to get back and hope my NY digs are available! Note: Original apt. I inquired about was unavailable, but another was arranged that worked out better for us.
I spent a week in apt 2A (downstairs from the one pictured here) on a business trip. The location is great. The apartment is very basic; it is not fancy or particularly modern, but it is well-priced and perfectly functional for one or two people. There are many restaurants around, and all kinds of good food stores within a few blocks. The owners are nice, accommodating, and helpful. They were easy to communicate with and reasonable regarding any requests I had.
There is probably no city in the world that has as many interesting attractions as the Upper West Side of New York. One block from Restaurant Row with excellent Italian, Mediterranean and Japanese restaurants and delis. 1 1/2 Blocks to Central Park and Riverside Park. Express subway stop is 2 blocks away. Uptown and Downtown buses stop within 1 block. Crosstown bus stops within 4 blocks.
