I work for the Department of Education providing physical therapy for special needs children. My late husband was one of the leading landscape contractors in Hawaii and built the 9 hole golf course on our property to showcase his talents.

Christine Wilkinson purchased this estate in 1979

The property was a trout farm in the 1950's. Children from all over Oahu came to fish. We bought the property because it was perfect for my husband's landscape and nursery. He soon set his sights turning the many assets of the property into his private golf course.

Along with the cool waters of the Waiahole Stream, the half acre pond, the many specimen trees (including one of the most majestic monkey pod trees in Hawaii), and the close proximity to the ocean, it is the magnificent views of Waiahole Valley that provide such a great Oahu living experience.

A TRANQUIL HOME AWAY FROM HOME!

  • 5 of 5
I can't believe we had to leave....none of us wanted to! A part of me doesn't want to leave the review this place deserves because I am afraid everyone will book it and we won't be able to go back!!! But the owners very definitely deserve this praise, so here goes: though we rarely saw them (they also live on the property) Chris and Buddy are generous and wonderful to work with--they felt like instant longtime friends and tended to our every need. The home is nestled in a gorgeous little rainforest-esqe valley, only a little more than a mile from the beach. The photos here do not to the place justice, inside or out. The outdoor setting is spectacular, huge decks, lots of room for entertaining. The koi pond with it's darling arched, lava-rock bridge; the creek; the beautiful flowers; plants and trees...even an herb garden to make your cooking even more special. The home is decorated tastefully and has everything you will need, including shampoo (mine got confiscated by the TSA!). The kitchen is spacious and 4 of us cooked together without being in each other's way--it's the hub of the home, and open to the other ground floor rooms. Fresh papayas on the trees right outside made for some delicious smoothies during our stay! The dishwasher makes clean-up super convenient (and it's quiet). The bedrooms are roomy and the mattresses and linens feel comfy and brand new. So many fluffy towels! The master suite is quite large. And even with 3 full bathrooms being used at once, we never lost hot water or pressure. The washer and dryer in the garage are large and cleaning supplies are there for your use. A local grocery store and gas station are about a mile or so away, with better prices than what you would find in Kaneohe proper. Nearby you can visit the Valley of the Temples, and some great beaches as well as the Polynesian Cultural Center just a short drive north. This is Hawaii country living, so out on the deck you will be visited by colorful tree frogs, chameleons, and large, bumpy toads throughout the day, as well as a multitude of brightly hued birds that sing from the surrounding trees in spectacular chorus as the sun rises each morning. If you want a truly peaceful vacation, away from the hustle of Waikiki and the traffic of the North Shore, this is the place to be. Also, any of you with a loved one stationed at MCBH--this is just a short drive away and yet a world away all at once. It was THE PERFECT place to visit with our Marine!!

SO MUCH BETTER THAN WE EVER IMAGINED!!

  • 5 of 5
After looking for weeks online for a place in Oahu & inquiring @ several sites, I happened upon this rental home. We were pretty impressed w/ the reviews & I was getting so discouraged looking for homes for our vacation (so many poor reviews) & skeptical to book our vacation through a private party. We finally decided on "Back to Eden" & once we arrived, the property was even MORE than we ever imagined!! Nestled in almost a rainforest setting, Chris & Buddy's property was an oasis, even though not close to the beach, made liour stay a memory we will never forget. Thank u Buddy & Chris for a vacation I will never in my life forget :)

Crowds are not my thing and the privacy at this location is unbeatable. There is not a better view of Hawaii than here!!!! The beaches are an easy drive and then come back to a totally different view that is totally serene. A must for anyone who wants to experience all Hawaii has to offer.

GREAT STAY

  • 5 of 5
Recently stayed at Back to Eden with my young son, wife and parents. The house is a little off the beaten path but well worth the drive.

Chris and Buddy and gracious hosts and the house is large, clean, and well stocked with beach accessories, kitchen supplies, toiletries. My son especially enjoyed feeding the Koi in the pond and we all loved walking around the gorgeous backyard admiring the orange, papaya, banana trees and the various kaleidoscopic flowers. A great getaway from the frigid Canadian winter.

BEST VACATION EVER

  • 5 of 5
Back to Eden is an idyllic place to chill and enjoy Aloha Spirit. At the end of a country road, we kicked back and enjoyed the space. The property is as described, even prettier in person. Chris & Buddy were great and there when we needed them, though there were not problems. We did suffer from a lack of enough wine glasses but didn't think to mention it. Had we, the issue would have been solved immediately. We were a group of 5 adults, 1 who knew the Island really well so we didn't need much direction. I would recommend this property to all friends and relatives. If you are looking for the beachside, "get a tan vacation", this isn't necessarily your spot. Back to Eden is great for camaraderie, hanging out, cooking dinner, listening to Hawaiian music, feeding fish and enjoying country life in Hawaii. Dawn is beautiful here. Waking up to the sounds of birds was amazing. We ate all over Oahu, including the Poi Factory. Go north for the shrimp trucks. Waikiki is there when you want it, just a drive to town. This is upcountry Oahu and magnificent! Thanks Chris & Buddy for a very special vacation. We had a wonderful time!

PARADISE IN THE COUNTRY

  • 5 of 5
This place was paradise. Christine and Buddy were very good host. My whole family was relaxed and enjoyed every moment. I especially enjoyed the backyard view while having a cup of coffee. I will definitely recommend this place to friends and family.

Located in the very back of beautiful Waiahole Valley and bordered on two sides by the cool, clean waters of the Waiahole stream, the property is close to the many attractions of Windward Oahu, including Kualoa Beach Park, Kualoa Ranch, Polynesian Cultural Center, Valley of the Temples, and Heeia Boat Harbor. Once a golf course, the property still has two holes, including the island green on the the majestic, flowing pond filled with colorful koi fish. Avid golfers will enjoy the Turtle Bay, Pali, and Koolau courses all close by. The famous North Shore surfing beaches are only a half hour away. Historically, home for the Hawaiians was not on the beach. They lived in the valleys where the weather was appealing and water was plentiful. This secluded, private property takes you back to old Hawaii and a true Garden of Eden.
