We have a small porch - very private sheltered by evergreens. 7 foot couch can double as a bed Or, need to spend a while in Placid and not spend a fortune. Families welcome.

Very homey!

We love this place. It's so much better than some sterile hotel room--like a real home. I never met my Grandmother--she died before I was born--but if I had, I'm sure she would have felt at home in "Grammies' place" . The place was cozy and warm and filled with the conveniences of home-videos, books, and stereo systems. I am so glad our friends, George and Katy recommended this to us for our winter stay in Lake Placid. We will definitely come back. Thanks Harriet!p-Lily White and Conrad Lower and Jolene

A Hidden Gem

We always stay at Grammies house whenever we go to Lake Placid because the sterile environment of corporate hotels is not our style. We visit often because our son goes to school there. The apartment is warm, comfortable and with all the amenities you could want. "Grammie" is very sweet and accommodating. There is cable and wifi, a relaxing living room, great for decompressing after hiking or being out in the snow. It is a short walk into the center of town where all the stores and restaurants are. If you want to save money and have a comfortable stay in the overpriced tourist town, this is your best choice.

It seems like prices are high in Lake Placid so we were happy to find a place that was less expensive than others. We got what we paid for. Imagine a very rustic lake cottage, furnished with old, tired things. Add in some opened tooth paste and mouth wash, powder, etc. in the bathroom and you truly will feel like you are at somebody's grandma's apartment. The door knob at the entry was loose and the smoke detector was non-functioning and in a box on the dresser. We did not sleep well and left the next morning without showers. On the positive side, it was very easy to find and is either right on the Ironman course or very close to it. The owner is a very sweet, grandma age, lady.
Owner's Response: I CONTACTED THESE PEOPLE TO RETURN THEIR MONEY. I NEEDED AN ADDRESS.THEY REFUSED THE OFFER STATING IT WAS THEIR DECISION TO STAY.I HAVE THE E-MAIL.THEY SHOULD HAVE TRAVELED ON AS IT DEFINATELY WASN'T THEIR TYPE OF LODGING NOR WAS INTENDED TO SATISFY EVERYONE.

Grammie's House was the perfect place to stay for the Ironman Lake Placid race. It's an easy walk to the race start, Lake Placid Village and shops of downtown. The apartment was well equipped with kitchen items, small appliances of every sort, dishes and bathroom items like shampoo and even toothpaste. The owner is very sweet and attentive and made us feel very welcome during our stay. The price was very reasonable and much lower than other properties and hotels in the area and had a reasonable 5-day minimum. I would highly recommend Grammie's House to anyone staying in Lake Placid.
