Beautiful Cabin...Rough Road

4 of 5
Submitted: April 6, 2013 Stayed: April 2013
My fiancé and I truly enjoyed our stay at the 'Crow's Nest Cabin' outside of Burnsville. The cabin itself is very cozy, comfy, and decently well equipped with the all the amenities of basic home life one could ask for. The loft space is tons of fun and would be suitable even for a small family with children of a proper age to climb the wooden ladder. The surrounding property is gorgeous and spacious, perfect for walking our dog. The nearby brook and stream provide a relaxing white noise to the cabin stay and had it not been for the rather cold, wet and dreary weather during our stay we would have surely taken advantage of the fire pit and hammock just steps out the door.

However, the cabin is not without its flaws. The road leading up to the cabin itself is incredibly rough and possibly treacherous to non 4WD and high clearance vehicles. On our way in we bottomed out our car (Subaru Impreza) three or more times and found ourselves stuck for almost 10 minutes because of extremely uneven terrain and mud. I'm unsure of whether the caretaker was present at the time, but we weren't assisted in our struggle to make it the last 200 feet to the covered car port (a decent compromise given there was a light hail during out visit).

Also, there is no cell service in the area (a blessing or a curse depending on how you see it) and very limited WiFi availability. Even though the cabin is advertised as having its own Wireless Internet, it's just a mooch off of the main house, which is spotty connection at best.

This cabin, with its coziness and fun times inside and out is definitely worth the trip...as long as you own an All-Wheel Drive vehicle with some serious clearance. Or the owner wakes up and sees the potential law suit waiting to happen and realizes that the quality of the road up to the cabin should at the very least match the pristine gravel he enjoys leading to his garage.
