Recently underwent a complete restoration saving original doors, wavy glass transom windows and beautiful woodwork while adding a full gourmet kitchen, beautiful bathrooms and high end furnishings. You get the best of both worlds; the quaintness of a bed and breakfast with the comfort and privacy of a fully furnished home. Located in the quiet, Frenchtown District of old town St. Charles, yet still within walking distance of all the shops, restaurants, historic sites and festivities of Main Street, Steel Shop Indoor Tennis Club, Missouri Riverfront and Katy Trail and just 8 miles to St. Louis Lambert Airport and only twenty minutes to St. Louis. Within a scenic 40 min. drive to many of Missouri's award winning wineries. Come see why picturesque St. Charles is nicknamed 'the Williamsburg of the Midwest'

This home includes secure off street parking, outdoor gas grill and comfortably furnished covered back porch area. Inside, the main floor has a large living room with large flatscreen TV, game table and desk: full bathroom with tub/shower; large dining room that seats six; and the kitchen has cherry cabinets, stone countertops, gas range with warming drawer, dishwasher, Keurig coffeemaker, micro, full sized ref/fzr, toaster, mixer, blender and more. Plus, full sized laundry equipment is tucked in a closet.

Upstairs are three bedrooms; The king bed room has a hand painted Missouri River scene headboard, reading area and flat-screen TV with DVD player. The queen bed room also has a reading dormer and TV with DVD player. The equally beautiful, albeit smaller, full bed room has an antique brass bed. All have ultra comfortable cool gel foam mattresses, luxury linens and hardwood floors with access to the large bath with antique claw-foot soaking tub. We also provide luxury bath salts and soaps from Herbaria.

About Ed Akers

Interior designer and sales manager during the week and historic property restorers on the weekends, the guest house is our sixth project in St. Charles, this is our only guest house in St. Charles. We do, however have another guest property in Panama City Beach, Florida (see #125313). We live one block away, so we're usually 'on site' managers to assure a wonderful stay.

Why Ed Akers chose St. Charles

We bought this property in our continued effort to restore and improve our historic neighborhood. It took over a year to complete the rehab and all of the approvals that St. Charles required to open the first guest house in historic Frenchtown.

What makes this house unique

We had long admired the beautiful Mansard roof windows, pretty front porch woodwork and large lawn of this house in our neighborhood. When it came up for sale, we immediately purchased it thinking we would move into it ourselves and only after it was mostly redone did we decide to turn it into a vacation house. So, it has high end finishes and accents that are seldom seen in guest houses. The rooms are large with tall ceilings with cherry hardwood flooring throughout and all of its original ornate woodwork. The covered back porch is a favorite spot to relax and we know you'll love it as much as we do!

Charming house for a perfect weekend getaway.

A group of us chose St. Charles to meet for a long weekend and catch up. We have used VRBO several times and have never been disappointed. The house was perfect for our needs and most charming. It is beautifully decorated and provided all of the comforts of home. We had everything we could possibly need. The kitchen was well appointed and provided plenty of cookware/serving dishes and even had a welcome basket full of goodies for us! The bedrooms were all comfortable and the linens superb. We enjoyed the patio immensely and it had more than ample outdoor seating. There was even a grill if you chose to cook out. Ed was there when we arrived and very friendly. St. Charles was a darling town with fun shops and excellent outdoor patios almost everywhere you looked. We will be back! I would mention that all bedrooms are upstairs and the stairway is QUITE steep. If you have any hip/knee issues this might be a problem.

Sweet Little Piece of St. Charles Heaven

My husband and I were taking his 22 year old daughter to see Fleetwood Mac in St. Louis (because as she put it - she wanted to see them as they were all about to die ;) )

The L'auberage is an immaculate, charming, beautifully decorated, historic home. As my step-daughter quoted, "This is the cutest house ever." I loved the big soft lounge chairs in the living room and master bedroom. The mattresses were very comfortable. Ed was very accommodating and easy to work with. He even left a thoughtful gift basket and Keurig k-cups. Upon arrival, he told us to take advantage of the large yard and pretty outside porch. My only regret is that we did not spend more time in St. Charles. We did have dinner at the quaint and delicious Bella Vino Wine Bar (highly recommend), but would have loved to spend more time checking out the historic area.

The Perfect Choice For a Holiday

We commonly use VRBO for our vacation getaways. This year we choose St. Louis so that we could visit family. Everything about L'auberge was exactly as marketed. We were pleased that the owners have a keyless entry, which allowed us to arrive on Christmas Day- something many rentals do not allow. The owners had made available to us several brochures of places and events. The historic district and Missouri River- easily within walking distance- was an enjoyable afternoon. The rental has incredible freeway access yet far enough away that there is no associated noise. It's about a 15 minute drive to the airport; about 30 minutes to the train station. There was a brand new supermarket within a 5 minute drive. All in all, I can not think of a negative. I would like to note that during our stay, a kitchen glass was broken. When brought to the owners attention (and expecting the deposit to be withheld) the owners did not address it and our entire deposit was returned. We have rented in Malibu, Angel Fire and Durango and have never had the entire deposit returned and so timely. I can't thank the owners enough for their help in making our 5 day trip so memorable. We look forward to coming back!

Perfectly beautiful & comfortable historic home with modern amenities!

We rent vacation homes from VRBO several times per year. Most often, the homes we rent meet our expectations, but L'auberge exceeded what we read in the reviews and saw in the pictures.

L'auberge is located on a quiet street in the historic Frenchtown District of St Charles, MO, just 20 min from St Louis.

From the lighting to the decor, it was perfectly comfortable. The house has a well stocked modern kitchen, two bathrooms, a dining room for six, comfortable living room with plenty of seating and washer/dryer.

Outside, there was plenty of off street parking, an outdoor gas grill, outdoor dining for six and plenty of other outdoor seating.

The house was immaculate and perfectly decorated. Every room inviting & comfortable. The owners were very responsive to the couple of questions /needs we had.

It was a great place for our family of six for a weekend away!!

What an Excellent Experience!

We booked this wonderful Historic home for a family getaway. L'auberge was beautifully decorated and very comfortable, we felt right at home. The owners have thought of everything, full kitchen, shampoo and snacks. L'auberge is keep immaculate we were very pleased with this guest house. The owners were very accommodating and were delightful to work with. We highly recommend L'auberge for anyone looking for a great place to stay with family and friends while in the St. Louis area. We will definitely be back!

Very bad experience

There is a reason this is a 1-star review. I would never recommend this place. First, let me acknowledge the place is nice and clean. It's not quite in the middle of the old St. Charles area that everyone likes to visit when they are there. It is a mile or so away from that. Maybe some people prefer that. But the backyard is large and nice. It has a space on the side of the house, kind of a double lot, so some people might like that. It has a grill outside and a patio area and again, the place is overall rustic and clean. I booked this in conjunction with another house so that my extended family could stay a couple miles away and could vacation together. We did not exceed the maximum people for either location, and were ALWAYS honest with what we were doing. The other house we had a great stay with; their owners were very happy with our stay in their house.

We gather in the backyard of L'Auberge the first morning we are there, have breakfast, talk about what we are going to do for the day. Owner begins texting me that we have too many people in the house. I text back, say only 5 people are staying in the house. He says the contract says a maximum of 6 people can enter the house at all. I called him. We talked it out. I did not read the contract to be so strict that we can’t merely congregate in the backyard and talk. I said we wouldn’t park extra cars in the front, would talk quietly, etc, and the call ended amicably (I thought).

But from that point, we did not feel welcome in the house. We were being completely harmless, but for rest of the trip, we tried to congregate elsewhere.

When checking out there was a check-out slip there; we followed that. The only thing that was remotely dirty was the baby dropped bath salts on the bathroom floor and there was no broom to sweep up. Otherwise, we cleaned things up and left the place in perfectly fine shape.

We later get a very rude letter full of lies and exaggerations. I guarantee the owner will respond to this with the same lies. He says we left the place "filthy" which is a huge exaggeration. He claims we broke a glass; we did NOT. We put dishes in the dishwasher but he complained we didn’t start it; that wasn’t in the check-out procedure. Basically, he is exaggerating/lying to keep part of our deposit. If he says we left the place dirty, that is my only conclusion.

He can claim whatever he wants, and he WILL respond to this. They are lies. I don't recommend doing business with this person.

Owner's Response: When you have a Beautiful Historic house these are the people you don’t want to have as renters. Our listing on our VRBO website clearly states that we can only allow six (6) people staying at our guest house and this guest signed our rental agreement that states just that. This guest admits that he didn’t even read the rental agreement that he signed. We are licensed by the City of St. Charles that gives us the ability to accommodate only 6 people. On Friday we saw 15 people streaming in and out of our guest house with 5 cars parked outside. Very early Saturday morning these same 5 cars were still parked in the same spots that they were in on Friday, these cars never moved. We knew we had a problem. We confronted this renter with the facts and were met with stammering and stumbling when he was trying to explain his way out of this situation. There is no doubt this guest obfuscated the truth about his real intentions. This guest decided to hold a family reunion at our guest house and pile in these 15 people and was caught red-handed. We have seen this before, people will make fraudulent statements about the number of people staying at a guest house to reduce their costs. By Missouri laws this is “Defrauding an Innkeeper”. This guest by his actions purposely Defrauded this Innkeeper and was caught. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that our guest house was left very filthy with grease stains on our Loveseat, Bath Salts all over the bathroom, a broken drinking glass and our DVD player smashed. We know this damage was done in retaliation.
