PIANO NOBILE

Rapallo Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Terraces, Pergola, Garden, View, TV, Wifi, Washing machine, logfire, dishwasher

Il Casone is an original Ligurian country house from the 18th century, tastefully restored by its French-German owner in spring 2006. The 2-storied building in the midst of olive groves with look over the valley and at a baroque church has three independant units: Piano Nobile 2-4 sleeps, Piano Sportivo 2-4 sleeps, Piano Amabile 2-5 sleeps. Each unit has an independant terrace and a garden. The property is surrounded by 850 m2 of 'fasce' with typically Ligurian dry walls. Secular olive trees, various fruit-trees and a vegetable garden with a herbal corner are a balm for eyes, noses, ears and last but not least also for the stomach.

Just relax in a beautiful surrounding ...: The country house ' Il Casone ' is ideal for a sporty-active vacation, but also for those who look for relax and contemplation. Due to the different located terraces everybody finds his personal place in the shadow or in the sun. Who wants to be active agriculturally, can work in the vegetable garden or in the orchard and can even try to harvest olives in order to get a very personal olive-oil. Cooking addicted people can prepare their own Pesto with in-house basil. Furthermore: crisp vegetables. At (rare!) rainy days the well equipped library lures with books in different languages. Feel free to feel at home in this enchanting 'coin' of Liguria is the wish of the house owner, a French German travel journalist.

... or discover hidden jewels: To the nature reserve Portofino, a paradise for hikers and mountain bikers or to the untouched Fontanabuona valley it is only a cat's jump. Bargain hunters of antiques have a look at the antique markets of Chiavari, Genoa and Sarzana. Designer labels with ridiculous low prices can be found in the Outlet of Serravalle (30 min by highway). Daily tours in the Cinque Terre and to the pearls of the gulf of La Spezia can be done comfortably by train or by ship. The culinary capital of Liguria, the small town of Recco, is only 10 minutes by car. And of course Genoa, in 2004 European cultural capital, with its fascinating Old Town and its Palazzi recently become UNESCO-world heritage. And why not explore Nizza and Cannes on the nearby Cote d´Azur. And don’t forget the Day-Spa in the the Hotel Excelsior Palace *****in Rapallo or in the Grand Hotel Miramare ***** in Santa Margherita.

We arrived in the paradise!

  • 5 of 5
The holiday house was completely amazing! Even though the stairs to the house have been a little bit exhausting, everything has been forgotten when we arrived at the house! It's very good equipped and everything's with love to detail! And the view and the huge terasse is just amazing!
I would definitely go there again!

Thanks to Mrs. Tschiesche.

Best regards

Not for Us!

  • 2 of 5
The view from the terrace was beautiful and a second terrace offered a quiet refuge. Summer would likely be the most opportune time to visit taking advantage of the airy windows, doors and the pleasant terrace. The property was clean and well maintained. The design, however, was more aptly suited to younger people or those who are more athletic as the foot path from the road to the apartment was very treacherous with sharp angular rocks providing a very unstable foot bed. Luggage, groceries and all necessities needed to be brought up this steep, winding, rocky path. The interior had a metal spiral staircase minus a handrail leading from the kitchen to the bedroom and bathroom. There was a pellet stove, however we were not informed about its use. The directions that were left were not in English. There were wall radiators, but we were unable to operate them. It was quite chilly with no heat. Only bench seating was available in the kitchen/living area making relaxing indoors rather uncomfortable. Parking for the car was difficult. Only a very small car would fit into the small space allotted at the curve in the road at the head of stairs leading to another property. Parking was only accomplished by someone directing the driver. The owner requested a down payment via a bank transfer and expected the renter to pay the transaction fees on both ends. In the description of the vacation rental it is stated that it is "ideally for sporty people looking for rural seclusion," and this should be emphasized, i.e. read "sporty" for "athletic".

Owner's Response: This review written by two elderly american women needs to be rectified by the owner, so that future guests can decide on their own what is real and what is fiction. so here it is: the booking had been made 6 months ahead and the owner made the tenants various times aware of the particular location of the apartment i.e. to be rached by a foot path. the tenants were made also aware that a banking draft from US requires a transcation fee on both the banks. why does the owner has to pay the difference if there was already a special price for renting only 5 days instead of 7? shortly before the arrival there was no means to contact the tenants as the owner´s mail account was declared spam. nor the tenants did consider necessary to comunicate a mobile phone number working in italy during the day of arrival. but the worst had only to come: the day of the arrival the tenants instead of following the instructions of the English guide handed to them how to arrive at the house, they followed the navigation system of their rented car (a tiny Fiat, so what ever was the parking problem afterwards???). So they went up into a street not apt to the car which broke down and only by chance didn´t happen anything worse. it was the owner´s duty to find out where the car had been rented (airport Marseille in France with expensive abroad calls never been refunded by the tenants) and how to organise an emercency car without getting a word of thank you. it was still the owner´s duty to carry up the footpath the whole luggage as one of the elderly women was somewhat shocked of the accident and the other woman simply too ... overweight and nearly unable to bring herself up the footpath. Again no thank you for restoring the ladies with food and beverages once arrived safe and sane. concerning the heating there was enough wood provided but eventually this effort would have required too many forces. the particular design of an italian country house must not fit necessarily with american customs in matters of security, but the staircase is not a spiral and it is provided with large steps and a handrail. The owner agrees in one point with the two ladies: guests like them is not for her!!!

  • 4 of 5

  • 5 of 5

San Pietro, a hamlet in the midst of olive groves near Rapallo: a Roman bridge, a baroque church, an olive mill, a pub with cigarette sales and pizzeria. Here the world is still in order, not least thanks to priest Don Beppe, the real shepherd of San Pietro. You hardly believe that you are only 1 km from the highway exit Rapallo (no noise!) and within 5 minutes by bus in the centre of Rapallo and at the wonderful seaside of the gulf of Tigullio with the beaches of Zoagli, Santa Margherita and Paraggi. For lovers of hiking old mule paths lead from ´Il Casone´ directly into the hills and just in front of he house into the park of Portofino, a paradise for hikers and mountainbikers. 40 minutes by train and you´re in The Cinque Terre. Children play soccer with the youngsters of the village on the football pitch beside the church, do horse riding or inlineskating in the skate park of Sestri Levante or visit Europe´s biggest aquarium and the pirate ship from Polanski´s film in Genoa.

Other Activities: Jogging and golf on the nearby 18-hole green
