Neighbors can be a pain.
We arrived at cabin in afternoon, was very concerned about what I saw when driving down towards the house, kinda heard dueling banjos. Once at the house, it was very apparent, that the neighbor was going to be a potential problem, the piece of carpet with red "No Parking" spray painted on it was our first clue. The inside of the cabin was nicely furnished, clean and comfy, the bed upstairs was super comfy. No cable or satellite so the WI-FI made life more bearable for my kids with my Netflix account. I was looking forward to some fishing but found out a little too late from Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife that the river that runs behind the cabin was closed to fishing, this frankly made me angry. The next problem reared its ugly head when the neighbor lady, I knew it was coming, let me know her displeasure with my 6 and 8 year old daughters throwing rocks in the river, she felt they should wade in the river and throw the rocks to the bank instead. Needless to say, my girls were then afraid to do anything in the water if the neighbor was outside. That night, it was made clear to me by the neighbor, who we have now dubbed the crazy tree hugging cat lady, that a campfire, for s'more production, was a dangerous proposition and that she was not happy I was burning some wood in the BBQ. For the money I spent to relax and unwind, this was a very disappointing stay. I was so wound up by the end of this vacation, I was looking forward to going back to work, and I'm a cop. The cabin owner was very accommodating before the stay but once we arrived and everything came up, there was nothing I could do but grin and bear it. First vacation in 4 years and by far the worst. Move the cabin away from the crazy neighbor and you have a real gem.
Owner's Response: I am very sorry that your stay wasn't what you had hoped -- and was deeply distressed to hear about the interactions you had with our neighbor. In her defensense, she thought she was being helpful, especially concerning the burn ban, and the fishing ban, which are seasonal. I will put on our listing the website information where renters can find out if burn and fishing bans for the area are in effect -- so that everyone can know what to expect, and will ask our neighbor to contact me if she is concerned about renters in the future, instead of going directly to them.
I am glad you enjoyed the cabin! We love the area and are proud of our home, and very much hope that this sort of interaction doesn't occur in the future. Our best to you, Alexandra
