TRADITIONAL STONE BUILT COTTAGE NEXT TO A SMALL RIVER WITH PRIVATE DECKING AREA

Bridport Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Sympathetically renovated cottage with conservatory, in farmland with lake.

Set in 17 acres of unspoilt Dorset farmland and just 5 miles from the market town of Bridport, Kingfisher Cottage is a delight for anyone who likes to get away from it all and enjoy the country life.

A traditional stone built cottage, it has been sympathetically renovated with beautiful flag stone flooring, a restful conservatory and private decking area next to the small river that runs close by. You can sit on the decking on a warm sunny day – of which there are many! – and maybe see the Kingfisher flying past.

The cottage sleeps up to four. It has one double bedroom and two sofa beds in the conservatory that can be screened off for privacy.

Kingfisher Cottage is on Lower Monkwood Farm, home to free range (happy!) pigs and a few cows as well as a beautiful lake in which you can swim or simply sit by and idle away the days in peace and quiet. We also offer clay pigeon shooting and fishing in the lake (well stocked with trout) at very reasonable prices.

Suitability:
  • suitable for elderly or infirm
  • non smoking only
  • children welcome
  • pets not allowed
  • wheelchair inaccessible

My wife and I lived in London all our lives, but always enjoyed holidaying in Dorset and even purchased a small holiday cottage which we and our two daughters spent many a happy time in. When it came time to retire, we decided to make a permanent move to Dorset to enjoy the countryside walks, the spectacular coastline and the lovely people of West Dorset.

Lower Monkwood Farm, in which Kingfisher Cottage sits, had everything we were looking for - a beautiful thatched farm house (although in much need of renovation!), farmland and small river running through. The farm had been neglected so we set to work on both the house, the cottage and the land itself and after much time and effort - including digging a lake - we had our dream home and a holiday cottage that many of our guests return to year after year,

There's always something new to see on the farm - every day brings something different. One day you may be lucky enough to see an Otter or maybe a Kingfisher, or the birds of prey that abound here. Then there's the river which changes depending on the weather, from a gentle babbling stream in summer to a roaring river in winter. And children and adults alike love to watch the piglets play in the field, often chasing each other in a game of tag!

My husband and I have just got home from yet another fab weekend here...Its just perfect and Rita and David and their daughter Louise were just as friendly and welcoming as they were on our previous visits here...The cottage was its usual charming cosy self... This really is a perfect place to stay to explore all the beautiful surroundings within walking or the ones further away which are still within an easy drive..
Thankyou Rita,David and Louis once again for a wonderful stay..

I have just returned from a weekend stay with my husband and two friends from here, I can`t praise this enough, it is just perfect, a gem in beautiful surroundings. The owners Rita and David and their daughter are just great too, it was the little touches which make these places just a treat to stay at, there was eggs, bread, butter, tea, coffee, sugar and milk for our arrival which we have never had before....I will defiantly be returning there and would recommend it to anyone....Pleasure to have stayed there....

We had a wonderful peaceful week, we wanted for nothing, everything you need is here, even milk, eggs and butter and bread. There were lovely flowers on the table, and everything was really clean.
The owners, David and Rita, were very friendly, and they were ready to help with anything else you might have needed.
I would like to thank them for making it a lovely week.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Kingfisher Cottage, hosts Rita and Dave were fantastic, very friendly without being intrusive which was very much appreciated. We loved being in the heart of the countryside with all the animals. It was a real treat to see the pigs close up! Accommodation was just as described, comfortable and very reasonable for what was on offer. We'd recommended Kingfisher Cottage to all who enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside and will return sometime in the future.

Surrounded by beautiful rolling farmland, yet just 5 miles from the lively market town of Bridport with it excellent fresh local produce, a wide range of restaurants and great entertainment, be it live music in the many cosy pubs, events in the Arts centre or a film in the art deco cinema.

From Bridport, it’s just a short hop to the World Heritage Site of the Jurassic Coast, beautiful in both sun and storms! You can’t fail to be impressed.

The surrounding countryside is great for walks, whether along the cliff tops or inland where you can walk around iron-age hill forts, visit a working mill or just enjoy the splendour of the scenery.
