Hello Folks, We are Andy and Sheila. We live here on the mountain right down the road . The tree house is a six year dream come to life. We bought and retired here with a dream of building a place where we and others could relax and recharge and even play a little. We have been married thirty years and counting. Andy came from Iowa, Sheila (me) was raised only 40 miles from Monteagle. The mountain offered such beauty, we had to be here! We Love It and we believe you will too.

Sheila purchased this studio in 2012

When we started looking for a place to retire we came to the mountain just sight seeing. It seemed that every time we decided to wander, we ended up right back here. Ultimately, we had a plan to have a place where people can unplug and recharge. Life is so busy, it is nice sometimes to get away from it all. So, we purchased almost eighteen acres here. The treehouse is the first to be built for our plans of a retreat. Ultimately, we want to have a couple of places for people to come and relax and enjoy nature.

We fell in love with the land! Trees fifty feet tall, the valley with the tiny stream. We built our home here first. Andy had the idea of his tree-house, He designed and just finished it. Not just a plain little room but open exposed beams, kind of like the main house. Whimsy bath with a fossil sink, water can shower and rustic style. The open kithcen has the essentials for cooking and and 50's dinette set. Blast from the past is one way of describing it. But, Of course we had to have the comforts of home. The covered porch overlooks the small valley and opposite hillside of the property. Most folks are loving the swing and there is a small dinette. We are only three miles from town, but our location is on a dead end road (paved). We are within a 15-20 minute drive to most of the hiking trails and waterfalls of the area. The tree house is approximately 100 feet off the main road down in the trees. Privacy is given when you visit here.

Very Peaceful and Beautiful!

  • 5 of 5
We had a very relaxing and peaceful stay! The Treehouse is beautiful, spotlessly clean, and very cleverly designed. The owners are great to work with, it was just an all-around great experience. Monteagle is also a very quaint and interesting small city. Breathtaking views of the valley are plentiful. We will definitely visit again!

Sweet Spot

  • 5 of 5
First of all,the owners are a family and it doesn't matter how great a place is,if the owners aren't into people and their comfort, you're wasting your time and money. We booked early, thought we had to cancel..rebooked, and these folks were great. The cabin is nestled near the bottom of a cosy tree filled valley. There's privacy, creature comforts, beauty, and a fair bit of wildlife. We completely relaxed after a busy year of hard work, leaving feeling relaxed and close to each other. It was bittersweet driving away from The Tree House, but we know we'll return. The description is accurate; property clean and well maintained; and I hesitate to tell everyone about it for fear it'll become so booked we can't get in, but I will not hesitate. We cooked most of our meals, but ate at Julia's in Sewanee Village and the restaurant at the exquisitely remodeled Monteagle Inn on the Sewanee campus. We hiked nearby and found bobcat, deer, and a set of black bear tracks. Laid eyes on lots of deer, owls, hawks, and the most beautiful menagerie of indigenous birds, including several varieties of hummingbirds. The latter, compliments of a hummingbird feeder beside the outdoor deck. If you need Egyptian cotton and down pillows, bring them, but even if you use them at home, you'll be comfortable enough. Summer nights are cool, so bring a light jacket. Bring a bathrobe. They provide great hiking sticks, and a led lantern, but bring a small flashlight for night walks. The cabin walkway is well lit. If you're staying for more than a couple of days, and have back or knee problems, bring a collapsible luggage cart for hauling your gear from/to car. It's not a difficult walk at all to the cabin, but long for hauling if you have issues. Bring binoculars. The kitchen is well stocked. Even a creative foodie can manage a nice meal. On this note, bring what you can grocery wise from home because the nearest grocery store is a Piggly Wiggly. It isn't that it's a PW, that's the bummer because they obviously cater to the tribe at Clifftops; it's the prices. Thanks to this lovely family for sharing s slice of paradise with us.

A wonderful get-a-way

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at the treehouse hideaway for three nights. It was even better than the photos and description. The cabin was super clean, and Shelia and her daughter were SO easy to work with in the rental processes. She even had music playing on the TV when we arrived the first day. I work a stressful job, and the cabin in the woods made it so easy to relax. We mainly ate out so did not use the kitchen much. Loved having coffee each morning on the deck. I have always loved hiking in Monteagle and surrounding areas so I am thrilled to have a place to stay. I almost want to keep this gem a secret!
