Aripeka has long been forgotten from the hustle and bustle of modern day stresses of life and commercialism. This village has been called 'A Sleepy Little Fishing Town'. It has one country store, Norfleets, which has a private boat launch that you can use for a $5 fee, and also we have the historic Post Office.
Several Famous people have vacationed here frequently. Babe Ruth used to spend his weekends here in Aripeka (while his baseball training camp was in Tampa), because of the wonderful fishing and uniqueness of the village. Also the Wright Brothers vacationed here for the fantastic fishing. Famous artist, James Rosenquist lives here as well. Aripeka has 'The Old Florida' flavor here, quiet, light breezy days, relaxing, fishing, hiking, Wild untouched Nature is what Airipeka is about. As you drive on Osowaw, which is a very quaint 2 lane road, toward Aripeka, the speed limit drops to 35, and you go through a canopy of tropical trees to our 1/4 mile private lane.
Orlando is just 90 minutes away, so Disney World is available for a day trip. Also in Clearwater, about an hour away is The Clearwater Marine Aquarium, where Winter lives. Winter is the Dolphin that lost part of her tail because of an infection that set up from a Clam trap injury. Winter had a heart warming family movie made about her called, 'Dolphin Tale' which I have provided the DVD in the House so you can get to know her before you go visit the Aquarium.
Area Shopping is Fantastic, and only 3 miles away on Highway 19, includes Pier 1 Imports, Walmart, Publix, Macy's, JC Penney, Beull's and Beull's Outlet, Belk, Target, Home Depot, Lowe's, and Office Max to name a few.
All kinds of Restaurants are also just 3 short miles away, including Cracker Barrel, Panera Bread, McDonalds, Pizza Shops, Chinese, Mexican, Greek, Japanese Steak House, Chillies, Red Lobster and of course the Restaurants that only the locals know about...Brian's, R Beach, and Bayport Inn all where sea food is not only featured but also perfected..
Several Nature preserves are close by, Bayport Pier, is where I saw my first sea turtle...He was huge...
I see Dolphins almost every day...from the West Upper Deck, they are so playful with one another...and play for an hour. Manatees are seen from both front and back sea walls, along with Crabs, Needle Heads, Mullet, and Striper. Scallop fishing season is wonderful, and is not allowed further North of Aripeka, (season ends last of October).
Why not pack a picnic basket and take the canoe to one of the several uninhabited small Islands within rowing distance from The Shine House? One of the Islands has a sandy beach, where you can enjoy sunbathing privately...Just think...your own private Beach...where else can you get that...?? I provide portable lounge chairs to take with you in the canoe for laying out in the clear water on the sandy floor. Wading is great, just take some old tennis shoes to protect your feet. Swimming in the Gulf is pretty awesome...just anchor the canoe...and jump in...it is very shallow for miles, so no fear about being lost at sea..
I provide 2 bicycles for bike riding. Osowaw is a scenic bike route, (State Route 595). Just minutes away, is the Weeki Wachee Nature preserve where you can go hiking or bicycling, bird watching etc.
I provide 2 kayaks as well, so that you can experience kayaking in the Gulf or close to the shore where the waters are divided by marshes and sawgrasses, where lots of wildlife take refuse and feed.
The Muti~color Sunsets off the West Side Upper Deck are unbelievable, overlooking the Horizon of the Gulf of Mexico. I guarantee you will not want to leave this property for any reason. You will never tire of looking at all the wildlife that pays no attention to you being there. I have a boat dock on the back seawall, and both my neighbors on each side of me have boat launches, so getting your boat into the water is not a problem nor is tying your boat up to the dock until your next adventure.
Remember to pack all your camera gear, because you will turn into a photographer while here. Also bring binoculars if you have them. So you can enjoy watching birds, dolphins, etc. Boating, Fishing, Relaxing, Nature watching, Swimming, Canoeing, Kayaking, or just taking in the many views from every vantage point in and around my beautiful home. So come to Aripeka and feel like a local for a week. Leave all your stress back home...I guarantee it will be there when you return...But for the week you are here, Be Blessed by the fantastic show GOD will provide for you in this 'Nature's Coast of Florida'. Aripeka is where you feel like you have taken a trip back in time. My neighbors are like family just like the old days. I'm sure you will enjoy them also. My next door neighbor, Craig, just might go fishing with you in the canoe if you ask him to. Perhaps he will show you some of his best fishing spots. He catches huge red fish off my front seawall.
