Thank you for your hospitality, we really enjoyed our holiday in Monflanquin and the Gite was great. I will definitely recommend you to friends and colleagues at work.

You never know we may be back one day. I think it was one of our favourite areas in France so far.

Lovely house in a lovely area!

  • 5 of 5
Over the years we have stayed in many houses all over France and this is one of the best. The house is well equipped, absolutely spotless, the bed is comfortable, the gardens are very attractive and the pool (which is incredibly clean and well maintained) is fabulous. A big plus is that you can walk into pretty Monflanquin to eat or just spend some time and do without using the car for a day. The location between the Dordogne and Lot valleys is ideal with lots to see and plenty of great restaurants. We would recommend Restaurant de L'Abbaye in Cadouin which does a famous house garlic soup (tourin). Also, being in the Bergerac/Cahors region there are many opportunities for wine tasting and buying.
Alison and John were welcoming but not intrusive and on hand for any queries.
We drove down from Caen doing an overnight stop but an easy alternative is to fly into tiny Bergerac airport and hire a car, which we have done before when visiting this region.
Its a sunny spot being a good way down into France with a varied landscape and quiet roads.
And, there's wifi (for those who need it!) if you want or need to stay in touch with the world.

Delightful Holiday

  • 5 of 5
We have self-catered in France for many years and this was one of the best gites we have ever stayed in - spotlessly clean, well equipped and very light and comfortable, with all the facilities we have come to regard as essential.
The private pool just for the two of us made it very special and having a small balcony upstairs for an evening drink as the sun went down was another attractive feature.
A short walk (slightly uphill) to the bakery for croissants and an excellent supermarket within easy driving distance all made life very simple. Monflanquin is a pleasant Basted town with a lot of character, especially on the Thursday evening night market, and has eateries to suit all tastes.
We would recommend taking Alison up on her offer of preparing and serving a meal as the one we had was superb with a wide choice on the menu and no worry about drink-driving afterwards!
We would have no hesitation in recommending La Maison d'Amis to friends as long as they did not plan to choose "our" weeks!

Owner's Response: It was nice to receive such a positive review from Micheal & Rosemarie however we do need to clarify a small typing / spelling error. The review refers to a Basted Town, this should read Bastide Town which is the name given to the fortified towns built in this region of South West France during the 13th Century of which Monflanquin is a prime example.

What a fabulous place to stay, we had an amazing, relaxing time. Alison and John have really thought of everything for this immaculate property. We had a superb week, the weather was beautiful every day. There are so many places to visit within half an hour, although Monflanquin is right on your doorstep with everything you need. The supermarket is just up the road as well as a superb Boulangerie. The Restaurants in Monflanquin and all really good, we particularly liked" Le Jardin"- situated at the top of the square- superb fresh fish. It was fantastic that the house is a short walk up to the town but also so tranquil and peaceful. The swimming pool is one of the best we have had and we did spend many an hour lazing by it in the afternoons admiring the stunning uninterrupted views with a glass of Rose Wine!!
Alison and John really are a welcoming couple and we shared a couple of fun evenings with them to hear their tales of relocating to France and they gave us lots of sound advice and help for our future plans, thank you to you both for the lovely aperitifs and your kindness.
The accommodation was superbly equipped and again, so well cared for, the bedroom has a beautiful balcony which is lovely for sitting out in the morning and evening.
This is such a fabulous place to stay, we would definitely recommend it, we hope to return soon to this region of France to do some property hunting and hope that we can stay with Alison and John once again.

Owner's Response: We are always pleased to hear that our visitors have enjoyed their stay with us. As we have said previously in responding to visitor reviews, we do believe it is important that we ensure all the facilities at La Maison d' Amis are of the highest possible standard, to make our guests feel welcome and comfortable so that they enjoy a stress free holiday.

As the weather was hot and sunny for the duration of their stay they were able to appreciate and use the pool and terrace even though it was late September.

Having lived here for a number of years now we tend to take for granted the pleasure in driving on the quiet French roads and visiting the many places of interest in the area with its varied and beautiful scenery and we are frequently reminded by our guests how lucky we are here compared to the UK's congested roads. As with all our visitors they found the convenience of being able to walk into Monflanquin Town and enjoy the various restaurants and bars.

La Maison d'Amis is on the southern edge of Monflanquin and offers that rarely found combination of being in the countryside yet within a 10/15 minute walk of the town. Monflanquin, a pretty 13C Medieval Bastide Town founded during the 100 years war, sits high on a hill, its two church towers silhouetted on the skyline can be seen for miles around justifying its well earned title of L'un des Plus Beaux Villages de France (One of the most beautiful villages of France). Cobbled Alleys lead to a central Arcaded Square where the Weekly Market is held and Restaurants and Bars can be found. During the summer months there are Music, Art Exhibitions and Medieval Festivals reflecting the towns cultural heritage. Situated in gently rolling countryside between the picturesque Dordogne and Lot Valleys are numerous places of interest to visit, prehistoric sites, chateaux, gardens and many other Bastide towns. For wine and food lovers the area is famous, sample its gastronomic specialities and enjoy tasting wine from the many local vineyards.

The friendly but unintrusive owners live on site and are available should you have any queries or require further information about the local area, places to visit or local restaurants. We have owned the property since 1991, living in Monflanquin on a full time basis since 2000 and are happy to share with you our experiences of living in France, if you so wish. Les Jumelles is a large house located in its own extensive 1 hectare (2.5 acres) of grounds. The pool and its terrace are for your exclusive use giving you maximum privacy during your stay as we have our own separate terrace away from the pool. Guests pets are not allowed as we have our own very large, friendly but rather timid cat called Charlie, therefore whilst we endeavour to keep him away from guests those with cat allergies should be aware of this.
