Gustafson Family Vineyards is the highest elevation estate vineyard and winery in Sonoma County, overlooking Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley, and Mt. St Helena. Surrounded by 20 acres of vineyard, guests have exclusive use of the Estate Residence, including the 36 x 18 ft. pool, spa and gardens. The living room offers 30-mile views of the valley with glorious sunrises above the valley fog, and the timeless architecture is a symphony of color with rich stone, stucco and glass.

In the spring of 2002, while driving from Healdsburg to the California coast with his family, Dan Gustafson, a landscape architect and real estate developer, pulled his car to the side of the road. He peered over the fence of the property that would soon become his, and explained to all that this would be a perfect place to grow grapes. Dan saw his dream of planting his own vineyard come true that year with the purchase of those 87 acres in the Dry Creek Valley appellation of Sonoma County.
In 2006 the estate property was expanded to 247 acres with the purchase of an adjacent property. Vineyard plantings are now complete at 20 acres; varieties include Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, and Rosé of Syrah. The balance of the land will remain as an ecological preserve.
The integrated home and winery that Dan and his craftsman colleagues have created truly merge with the landscape. They offer a spectacular view of Lake Sonoma and have become both workplace and retreat for Dan, his wife Phyllis, the Gustafson family and their friends. The family intends to keep the vineyard property feeling like a private home. This is a place they enjoy hosting visitors and wine lovers from all over the world.
The old sheep ranch, at an elevation of 1800 feet above sea level, has rich, red volcanic soil known for producing superb wine grapes. It represents a unique terroir as the highest elevation estate vineyard and winery in Sonoma County. Benefiting from warm summer days and late afternoon Pacific breezes, the vineyard is sustainably farmed with respect for the vines, the land, and the wine-making process.
When creating the vineyard great care was taken to preserve old groves of madrone, oak, and redwood trees, including the “Sonoma County Heritage Tree.” This 300-year-old madrone has a trunk diameter of eleven feet is thought to be the largest madrone tree in Sonoma County, and perhaps the entire state of California.
Our Esate Home is located in the heart of the vineyard, giving you a unique perspective into the farming of our Estate vineyard. It is peaceful and breathtakingly beautiful, and will become your private Estate for the duration of your stay.
Located in the beautiful rolling hills above Lake Sonoma, our Estate Home is nested in 20 acres of sustainably farmed vineyard and attached to a boutique small-production winery. We invite guests to enjoy a private tasting of our award-winning estate wines, and take a tour of the vineyard and winery with Winemaker Emmett Reed. Gustafson is also the perfect place to explore the rest of Dry Creek Valley's 60+ wineries, and enjoy the fine dining and shopping available in downtown Healdsburg.
