We just celebrated our 50th anniversary. We have three children and five grqndsons. We split our time between a home in Texas and this home in Colorado. David is a Texas Aggie, class of 1964, who spent most of his career in the supercomputer field. He also served on two different school boards in Texas and refereed both high school and college basketball for 22 years. Allynn is a retired high school math teacher with a bachlor's degree from the University of Houston and masters degree from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. She plays the piano and sings in and directs, as a substitute, church choirs both in Texas and in Ridgway.
David and Allynn Dealy purchased this house in 2004
In September, 2004, we were driving from Moab, Utah to Ouray, Colorado when we saw the San Juan mountains in all of their glory. We had just retired and were not really looking for a second home but the beauty of the area swept up away. We stopped at the first real estate office we saw in Ridgway, told the agent we wanted a log house with a view. She showed us this house, along with others, we went inside twice and literally bought it on the spot. The view is to die for and the home more than meets our needs with its lofted ceiling, deck, picture windows and access to wonderful hiking trails around the corner. Look at the pictures from our deck.
We are blessed with the uniqueness of our little piece of paradise. It is a house where one can enjoy the four seasons. Decks on three sides of the house, a wonderful great room with with high ceilings, aspen paneling and a pellet stove for cozy evenings are just some of the features of the house. We are just a block away from 3 different hiking trails, one of which overlooks the valley in what must be one of the most beautiful views in Colorado; a golf course nearby (golf when it is warm; cross country skiing when there is snow); wild animals in the yard (we have seen elk, mule deer, turkey, many beauutiful birds, grouse, bobcat, bear, mountain lion (only one of the last 3 in our 8 years so no danger). In Ridgway and the surrounding area are many winter and summer activities from fly fishing to river rafting to hot springs to horse back riding to jeeping in the hhigh country to outdoor concerts in summer and indoor concerts in winter to casual and fine dining to relaxing from all of the above on our deck or a choice of two different hot springs. There is excellent elk and mule deer hunting close by on both private ranches and public lands. Just ask us and we will be more than happy to let you know about all of the things you can do when you are here.
Beautiful well maintained cabin, wonderful views of the snow capped mountains, short distance to town. I would highly recommend to future potential vacationers!
Hubby and I stayed at the Dealy's cabin for a week at the end of September. Everything you read in the other reviews is true. It is a lovely, peaceful, quiet retreat with an absolutely beautiful view and a good location. The bed was very comfortable. The cabin is extremely well supplied with anything you could possibly think to need and is very clean. All appliances worked well. The only "problem" with the cabin would be for someone with mobility issues as there are stairs in the cabin. David was very helpful both before and during our stay answering questions and making suggestions for drives and hikes. We loved the daily visits from the deer. And enjoyed seeing a flock of turkey's wander past one day.The Ridgway area is, we think, the most beautiful in Colorado. The Dealy's cabin is a good central base of operation for lots of scenic drives and hiking. We have stayed in several rental cabins in Colorado and this is definitely the best. We wouldn't hesitate to rent again. But if you go you MUST visit Mouse's chocolates in Ouray for one of their scrap cookies and some fudge. Oh my goodness there is none better! We were lucky on our visit to hit the height of autumn and everywhere we went was just so beautiful. Thanks for sharing your cabin with others.
My friends and I stayed here a few weeks ago and would easily recommend it to everyone. The place is quiet with a great view and very clean. Telluride, Silverton and other places are within easy driving distance; and the trails around the house are also worth checking out. The owner was great to work with; and the place had all the things we needed for cooking and enjoying our trip. Would stay here again if we get another chance to visit.
My family was lucky enough to recently stay at the Dealy cabin for a week. We had a wonderful time. The cabin is just as pictured. The view from all sides of the deck is amazing! We were entertained by deer every morning and evening. We had heard there was a bear in the area but never got to see it. There is hiking close by and a gym that we were able to use. The cabin was clean, comfortable and VERY well stocked with everything we needed. The Dealy's even have bikes, coolers, walking poles and other things they gladly share. David supplied information about Ridgway and the surrounding area, which was very helpful. We hope to return again. Thanks for a GREAT vacation.
My parents, husband and I stayed at Log Hill Cabin for our Christmas Holiday. It was a great central location to many sightseeing opportunities such as the towns of Ouray and Telluride (and of course Ridgway) and there were many outdoor activities to do - snowshoeing, hiking, wildlife viewing, etc. The landlord, David was very friendly, accommodating and a wealth of knowledge! He really helped us be able to plan our 4 days there and see all the neat places Southwest CO has to offer. His lists of restaurants, breweries and other activities was super helpful as well as giving us access to equipment to use. I highly recommend staying here when wanting to explore this part of Colorado. Thanks David!
I have had good experiences with VRBO homes but this was probably the best yet. We stayed 4 nights with three generations during the winter and everyone loved the house and our visit. First, the owners are great people and I felt very comfortable dealing with them throughout the process. Second, the location/views and access to activities exceeded our expectations. We were very familiar with the area from visiting family nearby but this location is truly spectacular. The trails within 100 yards of the house offer some of the best views in all of Colorado. I stood in one place on the escarpment trail and had the best views possible of the San Juan Mountains, the Cimarron range, and the Dallas divide. Below me some 800 feet lay the broad valley surrounding Ridgway and the narrower valley running up to Ouray -- all within a few minutes driving time. An elk herd in the valley grabbed our attention more than once during our stay. The house location offers beautiful isolation or activities close at hand -- whatever you wish to pursue. The house is very comfortable and well laid out for a family. The mud room entry in winter had everyone removing their shoes before entering the house which made it easy to avoid cleaning issues. The warm pellet stove kept the house toasty without the work of moving wood and was easy to keep clean. The open floor plan/large view windows made for an inviting living space. The amenities were all present and it was easy to find everything you needed.
We made our visit on a school winter break so we could include children but I can see this house being ideal for a myriad of groupings or a couple looking for a getaway.
Almost any mountain environment activity is available close by from fly fishing, horseback riding and rafting in summer; to fall colors; to cross country and downhill skiing and ice climbing in the coutry's best ice climbing park in winter; to beautiful wild flowers in spring and all summer long. There are many private ranches as well as public lands for excellent hunting...mule deer and elk being the primary seasons.
