Three Rivers is a very special place, and for some a hidden California gem! Nestled in the foothills, you can be at the sequoia trees within 45 minutes, or be on the lake in 15...the nights are star-filled, the weather is always amazing, the river rocks you into relaxation! The town has a population of roughly 3,000 people, so it is small yet still provides many necessary amenities...a few restaurants, two markets, gas stations, art galleries, video store, gift shops, organic farm, and more...the house is a couple of miles from the entrance to Sequoia National Park and one mile from entrance to Mineral King! The Kaweah Lake is a man-made reservoir lake which provides for great bass fishing, recreational water skiing, jet skiing, houseboat rentals and more.

The 'White House' has its own private swimming hole, accessible only by locked gate. Perfect for sunbathing, swimming or fishing! The house was built with views in mind...every window and deck face the east toward the park. The granite rocks at the entrance to the house have the original 'grinding holes' by the local Indian tribe, the Potwisha, who would grind acorn into maze, their most common food! The house is awesome in many ways...it was built with entertaining in mind, there is a very nice flow of spaciousness and can support many guests comfortably, or be the perfect getaway for a couple!

If you like rustic.....

If your idea of "rustic" includes battling ants in the kitchen, inadequate air conditioning, cobwebs, bugs throughout, and most importantly, the smell of raw sewage, then this is the place you are looking for. As soon as we started unpacking in the kitchen, we noticed hundreds of ants. The cleaners had just left the house as we actually talked to them as they were leaving, but live and dead bugs were everywhere. We contacted the owner immediately. Here is the direct quote he gave us, "I recommend going and buying ant traps." For the rest of the stay, all groceries were left in the refrigerator to deal with the ants. On the second day, we noticed the smell of sewer. It got worse every day, especially early in the morning with everyone showering etc. We left a voice mail and the response was by txt several hours later, telling us to " buy some septic tank stuff or I can have my guy come by." Another day later, he came by. The smell was unbearable. He immediately said the tank needed to be pumped. No news to us. We left a day and a half early, not knowing if it would get pumped, because the smell had become just to much for everyone to take. Not sure if it ever got pumped. The pics give the impression that its kinda out on its own. It is not. Neighbors are within a stones throw. And they are very unfriendly. The swimming area is not easy to access for young kids as it is steep. It also has a lot of trash around it. The house house has not been kept up. Windows are rotting and wont close, some have been replaced with cardboard, ceilings need to be repaired from leaks, foam has been used to seal holes in the interior, curtains are hung up by tacks, couple stairs sag when you walk on them, a blown outlet with visible flame damage in the basement, just to mention a few things. 4 TVs, but no cable or antennas. There are 5 beds in this house. That doesnt hold 15+ ppl as the add suggests. If you used the pee stained blow up bed that we saw in the closet, it could be 6 beds. There are not enough dishes to make dinner for that many people either. There is only 1 hot water tank. There were 2 at one time, but the owner must have decided it wasnt worth replacing like many other things in the house. Showers for 10 ppl ran the tank out. AC in upstairs doesnt handle the sq.footage. Its hot. The original ac has been replaced with a window unit. Also no cell reception unless AT&T. Which we were unaware of until after arrival. Also no land line for emergencies.
Owner's Response: 1. According to local management you did not leave early
2. Septic tank was pumped during your stay
3. Hot water tank is brand new and installed this summer. And is sized to handle large groups.
4. AC on top floor is not a window unit. It is brand new as well, installed this summer, and is wall mounted and adequate to handle 850 square feet.

Sequoia Trip

The booking process went very smoothly. Owner was very responsive to all emails. The house was very spacious for our group of 15. Upon arrival we did notice an unpleasant odor throughout the house. We contacted management and a box of septic cleanser was left on the front door for us to flush down the toilets. Thankfully the odor did improve by the next morning. There are definitely a lot of cobwebs and the house could have used some serious dusting. The AC did not reach the top floor/room. Luckily the kids weren't as bothered by the heat and were willing to sleep there:) The private swimming hole is located across the street. It is NOT an easy walk from the gate to the swimming hole. It's steep and rocky so I would not recommend for young children or elderly. The swimming hole area could have also used a quick clean up as we found beer bottles and some trash littered around the rocks. Kids had fun so the trip was a success but unfortunately I don't think we will be returning to this home.

Owner's Response: The septic tank was pumped out to address the odor. There is AC on top floor.

Childhood Dream

Even better than I expected! We absolutely loved our annual Three Rivers stay in the White House. Everyone was super comfortable and there was tons of room for privacy.

We did make the mistake of leaving food out to go for an evening walk the first night we were there and boy did the ants take advantage! This was completely our fault, but do know that it is super important to clean up the kitchen as soon as you can.

I would highly recommend this house to anyone thinking of going to Sequoia or Mineral King. Our groups split up with half going to Sequoia and the other half hiking up in Mineral King. It was fantastic to come home each night to sit by the river and to stroll over to Reimers for some famous Three Rivers Wild Blackberry ice cream.

There is absolutely no better location, especially for the price.

Thank you so much and we'll see you next year!
