A Day in the Life at Sugar Beach
Start your morning with a barefoot stroll along the surf on Hawaii’s longest beach and feel the warm white sand between your toes. In the spring you will most likely see a humpback whale or two breaching offshore, and you’ll see Hawaiian sea turtles most anytime of the year. Finish your walk with a dip in the warm waters of Maalaea bay or swim in the heated saltwater pool at sugar beach resort. A soak in the hot tub might feel even better.
Enjoy breakfast while gazing at the ocean from your lanai or through the large window next to your dining table. The menu includes fresh apple bananas, papaya, and mangoes from the famous Kihei farmer’s market, just a short walk from your condo.
The day presents a palette of activities. Take a cruise out to watch whales jumping in the air or dolphins following your boat. Snorkel off Molokini island. Learn to surf. Go shopping in the old whaler town of Lahaina. Take a drive to the north shore, visit the retro-town of Paia and have lunch at the world-famous mama’s fish house. Or, if you’re really up for an experience, drive all the way to heavenly Hana and swim in the seven sacred pools. See the sunrise over the crater on Haleakala. Play one of Maui’s world class golf courses. Or what the heck, just kick back on the beach all day.
It is 6:00 pm and time for watching the sun set over the west Maui mountains which is conveniently viewed from your lanai. The sky turns the color of a Mai tai as you relax in the warmth of the tropical evening. Decisions, decisions. Will it be a quiet night listening to the crashing surf or dinner at one of Maui’s fabulous restaurants? Whatever the choice you can be sure the night will end with the sounds of the ocean lulling you to sleep. Life is good.

I first came to Hawaii in 1973 and fell immediately in love. I started a business on Oahu and later lived on Maui for 8 years. I retired 17 years ago and began traveling. I am now a full time world traveler but always return to the islands when I circle around to this part of the globe. This photo, taken in Alberobello, Italy, is me with my 3 loves--my 2 beautiful daughters and my '76 Westfalia Bus.
Roy Bruder purchased this condo in 2012
Sugar Beach has the perfect location. You are close enough to all the great restaurants of Wailea, Maalaea, and Lahaina, close to the shopping center in Kahului with everything from Costco to Whole Foods. I don't even bother renting a car when I'm here. There is a bus stop just a short walk away which will get you most places on the island. And, it isn't bad living right on the beach.
I looked at dozens of condos before I walked into 312 and instantly knew it was the one for me. It was so bright and airy where others seemed cramped and dark. The side window looking out at the ocean was the killer and the fact that it has a larger bedroom than most of the other units was a big plus as well.
We loved our time at this modern and impeccably clean condo. One of the highlights of our vacation was the lanai. We loved waking up every morning to have coffee and breakfast on the lanai. There are beautiful views of the ocean and you can watch the sunset over the water every night. We also saw whales on numerous occasions. The crowd at Sugar Beach is a bit older. It is a quiet complex that is not close to anything (other than the ocean!) so do not stay here if you want to be close to the action. However, everything you need is a quick car or bus ride away. Great location for exploring the island. The condo is also well equipped with beach towels, beach chairs, boogie boards, cooler, pool noodle, a safe, shampoo and body wash, drip coffee maker with filters, sugar, teas, spices, olive oil, etc.
We stayed a little over a week and we very much enjoyed this rental. The place was very clean, modern and everything that one would need was provided. We especially enjoyed the view of the ocean and the pool. The wifi worked great allowing me to work from the condo. For those wanting to snorkel, a wonderful reef is located 25 yards off the shore of the rental.
Sugar Beach is a good central location for almost everything on Maui. Roy has a wonderfully updated corner unit with great views of the ocean and pool area. The condo is very well stocked with everything you may need for your stay...boogie boards, beach chairs, ice chest, nice oversized beach towels, cookware, etc. Roy was prompt in answering my questions and easy to do business with. I can't wait for my return visit!
My husband and I booked this condo on the recommendation of a friend for our 30th wedding anniversary. We rented a car at the airport and had no trouble driving to the condo. The condo was stocked with everything we needed and we appreciated the snorkel and bogey board equipment. Our lanai was large and overlooked the pool. Everything was clean and worked well. The location at Kihei was central to everything but we mostly walked the beach every morning and used the pool and hot tub. I would like to say we cooked a lot as the kitchen was well equipped but we enjoyed local food especially the Sugar Bake Shop and the Kihei Cafe for breakfast. Thanks for a great time.
This one bedroom condo was a great size and had everything you need PLUS more. Snorkle gear, wave boards, sun burn gel, beach towels, washer dryer & detergent, WONDERFUL view, great pool & hot tub and close to so much. We had a wonderful time. The only issue we had was the bed was a bit harder than we are use to, but after the first night we were fine with it.
This was a lovely place to stay. Had everything we needed - snorkeling gear, beach towels, travel mugs and a cooler - perfect for our day trips. Condo was clean with nice amenities and had a great view of ocean and pool. Roy was a pleasure to work with and very timely. I highly recommend this place and would definitely come here again.
