Birds & Bees Cottage, as the name implies is a romantic stone cottage with shingle roof trimmed with white gingerbread. It has a king sized 4 poster bed draped in netting, antique furniture, a huge 30' x 8' verandah with a hammock for those afternoon naps. Lovely views across the tropical garden filled with an assortment of flowers and trees with many birds flitting through. There is a palm fringed pool shared with Sapodilla cottage also in the 2 acre garden. Both cottages are very private and peaceful and well separated from each other.
I sailed into English Harbour in 1967 and fell in love with the island. I built my house in 1969 in the old colonial style, and later built a cottage for my mother, and much later a small guest cottage. Unfortunately my husband and I lost our pensions to a very bad investment, and now I am renting out both cottages. My husband and I are both keen sailors, riders (I started the Springhill Riding Club just nearby in 1987) We love our three dogs and our 2 acre garden which we have filled with indigenous flowering plants and trees.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 1969
We love Falmouth for its peaceful green location, it feels a long way from everywhere, but is only 5 minutes drive to lots of activities and night life - the best of both worlds.
Birds & Bees (we have had several engagements happen here!) is peaceful and quiet and yet near so many lively bars, restaurants, etc. There is a Mediterranean port feeling to the Yacht Club Marina with its coffee bars & boutiques and mega yachts, and yet it is only a few minutes away! You can spend the day by the pool, swinging in a hammock or at the beach, and at night enjoy a delicious dinner and dancing under the stars in one of the many restaurants in the Harbour.
Set in a somewhat remote, private location, "Birds & Bees" is a picturesque, idyllic stone cottage. Comfortable and roomy, and truly "open air" with friendly, tame birds occasionally flying through, the property is beautifully landscaped and provides a great view of the harbor below. We enjoyed the pool for late afternoon dips, usually after spending the day visiting one of the many and various beaches on Antigua. During our 2 week stay, we explored 10 different beaches -- all exquisitely wonderful. Dining certainly did not disappoint either. We ate at all types of local establishments, from the rather sophisticated to the no-frills, and everything in between (and beach bars, too). All food was very good to excellent, and we found the staff to be more than friendly.
The owner, Janie is extremely personable, fun to talk to, and helpful. We only met Geoffrey briefly, but he seemed to be a very pleasant character as well. They have 4 well behaved dogs, 3 of whom may stop over occasionally to say hello, but if you prefer not to let them inside, just extend the little child gate across the front entryway and they'll not bother you. However, we found it delightful to have these sweet dogs come visit.
We absolutely loved our all-too-brief vacation at Birds & Bees, and hope to be able to return again next winter.
My boyfriend and I needed a quiet private retreat for this holiday as we both have been working very hard. The birds and the bees cottage was so beautiful peaceful and perfect and exactly what we needed. It is very private, but if you need anything or if you like to have someone close by to help you feel safe, the owners are not far. It is in true Caribbean form an open cottage and windows that you can keep open all night while you're sleeping. We had such a lovely breeze every night to keep us cool. We stayed for two weeks and Janie was a lovely host and gave us great recommendations. I can't say enough about this island as well. Everyone on this island in our experience was so friendly. And there is so much to do on. We definitely were sad to leave and hope that one day we can come back again!
This is a marvellously secluded and peaceful cottage within easy reach of shops and amenities, set in a beautiful garden with a wonderful view of Falmouth Harbour. Short stroll up through the garden to the pool, which is ideal for a dip at any time of day, or do as we did and spend many days soaking up the sun and cooling in the pool!! Birds and Bees cottage is situated a short distance off the main road, on a side road, which leads to Rendezvous Bay. Car hire is strongly recommended; 4 wheel drive is not necessary for access to the cottage any part of the island, except Rendezvous Bay, which is about 15/20 minutes drive, or 45 to 60 minutes walk from the cottage. The garden is full of beautiful flowering bushes and cacti, which attract a splendid variety of colourful birds which do fly in and out and through the cottage. Hurricane Gonzalo passed over us while we were resident, which was an interesting experience and due to Birds and Bees cottage sheltered location and stout construction we suffered no ill effects whatsoever. Mains electricity was knocked out for 4 days, but as the property has it’s own independent and automatic on/off generator we experienced no loss of power. Wonderful hosts Janie and Geoffrey live in the house next door so available if required and having lived on the island for over 40 years are a true fount of knowledge and just want to ensure guests really do enjoy their stay at Birds and Bees cottage.
A wonderful relaxed location to introduce you to the splendours of Antigua. Whatever the attractions of the island are - its all at Birds and Bees cottage if you wish to relax as we did. Tranquility personified in the middle of nature itself .You could spend all day just watching the wildlife and already back in London we miss the Bananaquits, finches and hummingbirds nor flying onto the veranda and sometimes into the house.
Great pool whether for the early morning wake up dip or for cooling down in the afternoon
We hope to go back in the not too distant future

A truly perfect piece of Eden, complete with tropical birds, a gorgeous vista, gentle breeze, cool pool, cool BBQ and genial hosts - authentic in every way. We couldn't wait to return to the cottage after idyllic days on pirate beaches to enjoy lazy evenings lounging on the terrace. This is a gem that we couldn't recommend highly enough. Thank you Janie and Geoffrey - we so hope to come back soon.
Situated overlooking the sailing hub of English & Falmouth Harbour, only a few minutes drive away with all its historical sites, bars and restaurants, beaches and watersport attractions. Learn to sail at the Yacht Club, charter a daysailer, go for a wonderful canter on Rendezvous bay, or spend the day with the magical beach to yourselves. Or just lay back in the Gazebo by the pool with a good book!
