TRULY OCEANFRONT AND A/C!

Kailua Kona Condo Rental Photos and Description

1 bed/1 bath lanai right on the ocean!

Hale Pikake Nalu (OceanWave Peacock House) is our vacation home located in Sea Village, an oceanfront complex. While there are many complexes that are listed as oceanfront, not all condos within those complexes are truly oceanfront. OUR condo is!

Sea Village is a small 4 building oceanfront complex, with great landscaping, a marvelous heated pool and hot tub, a grassy picnic area with multiple gas grills, and plenty of parking. This is a strictly non-smoking complex with enforced quiet hours 10pm to 8am.

Our unit is in building 4, closest to the ocean, farthest from the road, and exceptionally quiet. Hale Pikake Nalu is on the first floor (no stairs to climb with suitcases and groceries). Nalu is the Hawaiian word meaning ocean wave that breaks on shore. And the waves do literally break on the rocks right off the balcony. The neatest thing--watching the sunset. And did I say view? When you are sitting in the living room you feel as though you are on a cruise ship--all you see is the ever-changing sea. Speaking of sea, the beautiful aqua-marine colors of the ocean were the inspiration behind the peacock (pikake) colors in the condo as well as the plumage of the Big Island peacock.

Hale details-- brand new king size pillow top bed, luxury hotel linens, new bamboo flooring bedroom and living room, tiled kitchen and bath, new sofa and chairs, new Samsung TV with 50 cable channels, free wifi. There is a great ocean breeze--sleeping is the best with the bedroom window open to draw the breeze and sound of the waves from the open patio door though the hale into the bedroom-- no need for a noise machine! There are good ceiling fans throughout the house and balcony. Little warm in the late afternoon with the western exposure? No worries as we have one of the few units in the complex with an air conditioner for those few hours before sunset. Although it is not designed to 'refrigerate' the entire condo, it does provide a comfortable 74-degree environment.

This is our vacation home, and it is our pleasure to share it with you.

About Mozela Dundas

Aloha from Glenn and Mozela Dundas, Texas transplants to Hilo Hawaii, where we live and work. We visited the Big Island in 2011 and fell in love with the island and her people. It didn't take us long to decide to make it our home!

Mozela Dundas purchased this condo in 2012

Why Mozela Dundas chose Kailua Kona

We absolutely love Hilo and our rainforest home on our own private river (check out our Hilo VRBO listing). But everyone needs a vacation home on the ocean, right? We love Sea Village, having stayed there in other units several times. When we saw our condo for sale, we just couldn't wait to update it and share it with others seeking a vacation hale!

What makes this condo unique

Several times a week, a cruise ship anchors just offshore. We sit on the balcony with glasses of iced tea and try to think of one reason why we would rather be on the ship--our nicely appointed stateroom is just inside, our heated uncrowded pool is steps away, the Green Flash coffee shop and Aloha Nail shop are at the front gate, great restaurants and shops are just up the street, our great view is continuous, ocean activities are beneath our feet--still can't think of any reason to be on a ship, can you?

The condo was very very clean, and the view was the best around. The owner was more than fair. Our only complaint was that the 2 condos on each side was under major construction, the noise from 8 am to 5, was unbearable. The weekend was great except for all the construction material from other condos, in the parking lot.. We would love to stay in the condo again, when all the construction is over. The condo itself and owners get an excellent star rating. We love the Sea Village, and have stayed there for about 15 years once a year.

Perfect place to stay

  • 5 of 5
The condo was immaculate and the view from the lanai was spectacular. We particularly enjoyed sleeping with the lanai door and windows open so we could fall asleep to the sound of waves.

This was a great location. It was ideally situated for trips up and down the west coast of the Big Island so we could snorkel Honaunau one day and sit on a white sand beach up at Hapuna the next.

The kitchen was well equipped and the appliances and utensils were in good repair and clean. There are nearby grocery stores (Costco, Walmart, Safeway) and a farmer's market with fresh fruit, so you can eat in as much as you'd like.

The pool at the condo is a nice place to relax. It is comfortable and well maintained.

Overall this was our favorite trip to the Big Island (we have visited 5 times!). We would definitely stay here again.

Perfect Place to Explore the Big Island's West Coast

Perfect Place to Explore the Big Island's West Coast
  • 5 of 5
We stayed for 5 nights to explore the west side of the Big Island. It was the perfect location to get north to Pololu or south to Pu'uhonua o Honaunau on easy day trips.
We loved waking up each morning and taking in the view of Kailua Bay, nothing makes fresh local coffee taste better than enjoying it from that view.
The condo was very well equipped with everything you could need to cook meals in or if you are like us, to be able to brew coffee and enjoy breakfast with a view without the hassle of going out. We even got take out a few times just to enjoy it on the lanai.
The bed was very comfortable, but we had a hard time getting the bedroom cool enough for us to sleep in and wound up sleeping in the den on the futon with the AC in there- but we like it cold when we sleep and just weren't drawing great breezes back to the bedroom during our stay, and it was a bit on the hot side in Kona this week.
We also REALLY appreciated the use of beach gear including chairs, grass mats, snorkeling gear etc- it was great to grab it and go.
We broke up our Big Island trip by spending 2 nights in Volcano, 5 in Kona and 2 in Hilo at a rental condo from these same owners. Some highlights:
1. Volcano National Park is a must do for at least 1 full day and plan to be there after dark too to see the glow from the crater
2. The drive from Volcano to Kona with stops at the black sand beach and then South Point and a 4WD trek out to the green sand beach- totally amazing
3. Aloha Kayak's tour of Kealakekua Bay, paddling with dolphins and snorkeling the reef by Captain Cook, lunch at Super J's in Captain Cook and visiting Pu'uhonua o Honaunau and The Painted Church that afternoon and we were back in Kona for dinner at Kona Brewing
4. Snorkel Kahalu'u Beach Park, just a few miles south of the condo, such easy access! grab some Poke from Da Poke Shack
5. Beaches- there are so many great beaches- Hapuna was pretty but a little crowded (on a Sunday) for our taste, we liked Beach 69 (Waialea) which is just south of Hapuna for the shady trees and protected cove and Manini'owali Beach (Kua Bay) for a gorgeous sunset
6. Mauna Kea Visitor observatory, arrive before sunset, stay for the star gazing.
7. Drive to Pololu Lookout and Waipio Lookout for stunning views
8. East Side favorites: Rainbow Falls, Akaka Falls and Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens
Stay at VRBO Property #454936 for access to Carl Smith Park and the chance to see and swim with sea turtles.

Perfect Condo

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful 5 day stay in this condo. It was perfect for all of our needs and the ocean front lanai helped to make it extra special. Every morning started with a coffee then breakfast on the lanai and when not eating out ended with dinner in the same wonderful spot drinking a glass of wine as the sunsets put on a glorious show. Great location near everything in Kona.

Ocean front condo

We stayed a week and wished we have booked a month!! The condo was just like the pictures - clean, comfy and right on the water. The A/C in the living room was nice in the afternoon as those lovely tradewinds were absent most of our stay...... The ceiling fans were enough most of the day and made sleeping comfy. The raised king bed is a nice addition. We ate all breakfasts on the lanai - it is lovely place to hang-out - ate 2 dinners there as well - the BBQ is convenient and it's fun to chat with other guests while your dinner is cooking. Golf at Waikoloa Village was reasonably priced and the Fairwinds snorkel tours are the best!! Dinner at Kenichi's and Bianelli's in Keauhou Shopping Center are good - also shopping for jewelry and clothes in that center. We had 2 nice meals at the The Canoe Club in the older but still fun Kona Shopping Village. Hope to return soon - to this very condo!!

Hale Pikake Nalu is an absolute oceanfront condo--any closer and you would need lifeboat drills! Waves crash on the rocks, bright yellow fish swim right below you, dolphins put on daily performances, and winter whale watching is supreme. We are a short walk to the shops and restaurants, but oh so quiet and away from all road noise!
