THE COTTAGE

Charolles Cottage Rental Photos and Description

3 bedroom farmhouse and 1 bedroom farmhouse

Commune with nature and feast your eyes . 2 renovated farmhouses in a tiny hamlet with stunning panoramic views. Both houses have individual South facing terraces with BBQ facilities. A large water feature is set in 3 hectares of land. Note: Not suitable for small children.

'The South House' has 3 double bedrooms, 2 with attendant bathrooms upstairs and a bed room and bathroom downstairs. The bathrooms all have showers. Downstairs, stone floors, a living room with oak beams and wood burning stove and french doors that open onto the terrace for outdoor dining. A modern kitchen, a dining room and a laundry with washing machine and dryer. There is satellite TV, and a CD player. At the moment there is no ADSL connection. However , if you have a smartphone , mobile phones and 2G work well in both houses.

'The Cottage' : upstairs : 1 large double bedroom and huge bathroom with shower

Downstairs:, huge open plan modern kitchen/dining room, sitting room with a new leather sofa . next room a laundry and a downstairs toilet. Satellite TV, CD player

Equidistant between Charolles and Cluny , and 30 kilometers from the wine regions of Vire Clesse , Pouilly Fuise and the Beaujolais hills . There are prehistoric caves at Aze , and at Bergeserin (10 ks) an adventure park for the brave at heart. Walking is the most popular passtime in the area with hundreds of kilometers of tracks in forests and tiny country lanes. In Summer there is a donkey that can be hired for the day to carry provisions for your picnic along with maps to help you find your way . If you wish you can hire a horse and cart to carry you through stunning landscape at a gentle pace. Fishing is another activity keenly supported by the local community. Maps and permits are easy to obtain at the local mairie. If you want history , the Chateau of Cormatin is only 20 minutes drive away with it's medieval kitchen gardens and 16th century interiors it is a 'must see' in the area. The tourist office at Cluny has a list of Chateaux to visit in the area. Cluny itself is a lively town with the remains of the largest church in Christendom still very evident in the main square.

The Cottage is just that. A renovated 17th century rural cottage with 1 huge bedroom upstairs , queen sized bed , and a large light filled bathroom with toilet and shower . Tastefully furnished and comfortable, it is the ideal getaway for a couple. A comfortable living room with TV and stereo ; A large modern kitchen / dining area that can easily seat 6 . A laundry and downstairs toilet . The kitchen is fully equipped and all linen is provided. Huge South facing terrace for alfresco dining and a barbeque is provided . Unfortunately there is no wifi service although smart phones and tablets can be used on 3G.

I have spent the last 20 or so years in France , I came here in 1990 with my partner looking for a typical French holiday house. We traveled all over France and almost gave up until we stumbled on this relatively unknown part of Southern Burgundy. It was so beautiful with the lovely forests, hills and hedge groves and the traditional stone houses.The wine is fantastic too... It was perfect for us. We settled to living here 6 months of each year. As we were both artists , he a painter and I a photographer we had the luxury of being our own boss.

Victoria Fernandez purchased this cottage in 2006

I had been looking for a property with enough land to keep my horses for a long time. One day my cleaning lady asked me if I knew anyone who wanted to buy a house. Her father had died and her mother wanted to move to town so they were selling the house that had been in the same family for nearly 200 years !

I went to see it . The house was a complete wreck but the view was staggering. I fell in love with the property on the spot.

The views are truly gorgeous . The hamlet is small and the road very quiet. This a place to enjoy natural beauty and commune with nature. There are extensive walks to be made in all directions through forests and fields. The paths are well defined. Despite the feeling that you are a hundred miles from civilization , there is a small town nearby (6 kilometers) that has all amenities including a large supermarket that also sells petrol.

Delightful cottage

This is an exceptionally well equipped, tastefully furnished, comfortable and well looked after gite. The view is very beautiful even in the cold and wet during our stay!

The owner is charming and discreet. Although her house is very close it is a lovely stone building which just adds to the remarkable view.

We would give the whole location 9 out of 10.

Amazing Cottage Retreat

We stayed in the cottage for our honeymoon and it was perfect. The property was clean with a very well equipped kitchen which felt like a home away from home. The bed was very comfortable, as was the sitting room which has a DVD player and satelliteTV including English channels! The setting was perfect for us - very quiet in the middle of the countryside with lovely walks on the doorstep. You need a car to get to the shops, but there are villages nearby, the biggest of which is Cluny which has everything you need and a beautiful abbey.

The grounds are lovely with a pool that has frogs. We spent some happy hours trying to get the pefect photo but they were a little shy!

The owner was incredibly freindly and helpful, taking us on a walk one day to show us a good spot for a sunset photo! All in all, we will be returning and we would highly recommend this property to other people who want a peaceful and relaxing get away.

Set in the hills of the Charolais, close to historic Cluny . The 2 houses are set on 7 undulating acres with a beautiful water feature. They are surounded by green fields and forests . Enjoy walking, biking, golfing, tennis, horse riding or just lazing around by the pond. Tranquillity, comfort and natural beauty are the key words to describe this property. 5 minutes from St Bonnet de Joux , a village that has 2 grocery stores, a bank, a chemist a bakery, 2 butchers and a medical centre. 17 minutes to Cluny, 35 minutes to the Macon TGV train station, 1 hour to Lyon airport and 2 hours to Geneva. For wine buffs the fabulous wines of the Maconais , Beaujolais and Cote D'Ore are all within easy reach . Visit the prehistoric site at Solutre , climb the mountain or sit at a delightful restaurant under it's imposing clif face and taste the stunning wines of the region.

Come here to get away from it all. You'll never want to leave. Well behaved dogs are welcome .
