About Susannah Adlington
My name is Susannah Adlington and I am a portrait artist living in Hampshire, England with my husband Michael. My father’s family have had Irish connections for several hundred years, and my parents bought Westcove House in the early 60s … since then four generations of our family have been enjoying holidays here – we just love the place and feel sure that you would too. Indeed many of our guests return to Westcove time and time again – something which we view as the highest form of praise!
Susannah Adlington purchased this house in 1962
Why Susannah Adlington chose Caherdaniel
Westcove is very dear to our family - we have spent many years upgrading and improving Westcove House, and renovating the Stables, Garden Cottage and Pier Cottage whilst retaining their character and charm. The income we receive from renting out our properties at Westcove when we ourselves are not here, helps with the ever-increasing costs involved with the upkeep of period properties, whilst hopefully enabling us to share this much loved, unique and magical place with others for many more generations to come.
We are aware that you, our visitors, will all have different requirements and interests, so we try to be as flexible as possible to ensure your stay at Westcove surpasses all your expectations.
What makes this house unique
Westcove and the surrounding area is teeming with history, character and charm...there is so much to see and do. If you choose to stay home the gardens and terraces are magical places for dining or relaxing whilst admiring the views over the harbour and hills beyond. Even sitting by a window, the scenery and light is always changing as cloud shadows move with the wind across the water and bog-lands. The stresses and cares of the world just melt away ....
Guestbook comments from the manager
….. There are not enough superlatives in my vocabulary to describe how I feel about Westcove and Katherine, Bernie, Bernadette and Vinny and YOU and Ireland!!!! It was a historic time for all of us. The house is so lovely and comfortable for all of us. We felt so at home. The view from the terrace was idyllic-we loved the walk to Pier Cottage. The young folks took out the tiny rowboat to talk to the seals and swim on the beach across the way. They also climbed every mountain within reach and rode bikes everywhere. I went up the Kerry Way from both ends. Vinny took us looking for whales and on a beautiful walk with the wildflowers and the snails and the jelly fish and the Irish bumblebee orchid. I danced for four hours with Bernie and loved every minute. Bernie was amazing to keep this wild group moving.. We took a private bus ride to Cork with guides and sang our hearts out on the way back. The food was superb - dinner was a highlight for all of us to come together and make outrageous toasts and sing Irish love songs. We explored lots of pubs for lunches and loved the food and people and the beer. I was so sad to miss hearing Vinny play after the dancing at the Blind Piper but I fell into bed.
I could go on and on but you’ve heard it all before. You have a treasure and you are great to share it…..
