Welcome! This waterfront vacation cottage has been under new ownership since 2012. The goal has been to keep the historical ambiance and features that have made it such a great place in the past while continually adding improvements to enhance the lake experience even more.
Among these changes have been whole-house air conditioning, a renovated kitchen including a new range, flooring, lower cabinets, lighting and also, for hot water security, a new larger water heater. Additionally, it's is now pet-friendly so you can bring the whole crew.
The cottage maintains its many comfortable features including a fireplace for the sometimes windy or chilly Lake Erie evenings; a historic bar room to talk and unwind (BYOB); one full bath and two convenient half-baths; a spectacular front patio right on the lake for breakfast as you welcome the sunrise; have lunch al fresco; sunbathe; have barbeque for dinner (new propane gas grill for 2015); enjoy the sunrise (see video); enjoy the sunset; and later, for star gazing, dreaming, and fellowship by the lake.
I'm an architect who grew up in the area and wanted a place for my far-flung siblings and family to be able to return to. But when we're not here it's a chance to share the lake experience with others.
Ted purchased this cottage in 2012
The view is incredible, and you are right on the water in this house. The open floor plan on the ground level really takes advantage of this relationship. Additionally, the bedrooms are very private upstairs and have some of the best views.
The waterfront location and convenient access to Cedar Point. Additionally, the house has 4 bedrooms and is pet-friendly.
My family had planned our family vacation at this cottage over a year ago. A few weeks before our stay at this wonderful cottage, my husband passed away. My kids, grandchildren and I decided we would keep to the plan and have our week here. I'm so glad we did. It was the perfect place to spend together. The cottage itself is so charming and there's nothing like watching the sun come up in the morning with a cup of coffee or watching it go down with a glass of wine. We even were mesmerized by a storm coming across the lake. The bar became a gathering place for the adults after the kids were put to bed. Thanks Ted for sharing this gem with us. I plan to stay here again.
This place is completely charming inside and magnificent outside. You are right on the water and the ever changing colors and sounds of the water will relax even the most stressed out person.
There are beautiful views from inside also. This cottage is over 100 years olds and has many original features. Even after 2 weeks, I was still finding cool things that I'd missed earlier. Everything was spotlessly clean and you have all you will need there, even matching dishes. No need to bring anything.
My little dog loved it too. We took walks around the cute neighborhood and collected driftwood and stones like none other at the beach. The people we met were all friendly and there are several really good restaurants in town for Lake Perch.
Ted, the landlord, is amazing. So considerate and thoughtful. Thank you, Ted.
All in all, it was the absolute most relaxing vacation in a perfect spot. I did not want to leave.
The house was spotlessly clean, comfortable and charming. We have been to the area twice before and refused the lodging we had booked so we were concerned when booking this cottage. It was perfect. The pictures do not show the charm or actual comfort of the 100+ year old house. As stated in the listing there has been updating and as with any house of this age you can see that updating is continuing and there are some minor cosmetic imperfections with repairs in the process. Nothing that would take away from you comfort in this home. We are already talking with friends about returning so we can share our new find. The lake is at your back door and it looks as if you are on a boat while looking out the window from inside. The owner, Ted, could not have been any more accommodating and after learning we were in a car accident he called the housekeeper to check in on us. We spoke with her once and she couldn't have been any nicer.
Thank you for your kindness.
Don't know how this place could have been much nicer! Ted was so easy to work with. He thought of everything you could possibly need. The house is beautiful and very clean! The lake view - awesome! We had a wonderful time and hope to be able to visit again!
Our week in the lakeside cottage was great, and the owner could not have been more friendly and welcoming, even to our little dog. The housekeeper also is very helpful and lives nearby. The house is full of historic charm, and although it feels open and airy, it also has plenty of spaces for quiet time. The patio is directly lakeside--great for watching storms over the lake in the evening, but you may want to bring an extra patio umbrella because it doesn't get much shade. A wonderful beach/park/playground is only four houses down the shoreline. We never lacked for hot water and the central air did a fine job of keeping us cool inside. The whole house was clean and the kitchen is modern and well equipped. It was great having a washer-dryer combo. The wifi worked great, too. Overall, a very, very positive experience.
Go Carts, Fishing Charters, Shopping, Nautical Museum, monuments such as the Marblehead Lighthouse and Thomas Edison's Birthplace, local winery tours & tastings, OTB Racetracks. Lake Erie islands like Put-in-Bay, Kelly Island and Pelee Island are accessible by ferry. Cleveland, with the Indians, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, museums and Horseshoe Casino is only 50 miles away. Amish country, about 80 miles away, is a fascinating day trip.
