Hi. I've been coming to Spider Lake every summer for 50+ years and I am SO LUCKY to be living here full time now! There is something special about our lake and property, and I want to share that with you. Happy sigh!
Mary purchased this cottage in 2005
I am one of the luckier homeowners, with a long stretch of a slowly sloping sandy beachfront! Spider Lake is a kettle lake, so most of the waterfront properties don't have a sandy beach...
20 minute drive to the TCFF!
Excellent getaway for a couple or small family! We thoroughly enjoyed getting up each morning, sitting outside with our coffee, and looking out at the lake. The owner of the property was extremely welcoming and friendly. (and patient with our dog and 2 year old! :). We enjoyed seeing the sights around TC and having a great place to come back to and hang out. It was definitely small but nothing that we didn't expect and, because we had great weather while we were there, we did not need to be inside much at all. Thanks for a great vacation!
Artists' Retreat is a great way to unwind! I am a no frills kinda gal in the typical sense, so this was right up my alley. Despite Mary's description as having elements of "roughing it," she adds other delightful "extras" that make your stay comfortable and relaxing. She is very accommodating, including my pup. The location is an easy drive into Traverse City and all the sights and activities in the area, but it is just as nice to simply stay on the lake and read, kayak or experiment with the art supplies Mary provides. All in all, a great experience. Highly recommend!
My husband and I rented this cottage for our 3 year anniversary and had a great time. The cottage was a little small for us cause we did have our dog with us, but we managed. It was nice out so we didn't care cause there was plenty to do outside. Mary was great she provided us with lots of things to do. I defiantly recommend asking for the painting supplies. We had a great time doing that! Also enjoy the row boat, the lake is beautiful. The fishing was great, so I'd you are into that I would suggest bringing your fishing stuff. And just like Mary said... You will enjoy the instant hot water shower, but keep in mind it is outside. There is no cable or radio but when the weather is nice you don't even think about it. The cottage is very close to Traverse City so it was nice to go into town for the day. We had a great time and would recommend this to others. Thank you so much for everything Mary.
We really enjoyed our time at the Artists' Retreat! The tiny yet adorable cabin was exactly what we were looking for. Mary, the owner, went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and that our every need was met. It's a great setting and a truly unique experience. We'll definitely plan a return visit.
Traverse City is a vacation destination town! Nearby Sleeping Bear is a beautiful 45 minute drive.
Top-quality restaurants, gambling nearby, a downtown with vacationers strolling along window-shopping, getting ice cream, enjoying a movie at Michael Moore's famous State Theater.
And remember TC's Film Festival! Wow! It gets bigger and more popular every year!
