Extremely spacious and newly remodeled 1 bedroom near main house. Natural light and large trees make this a lovely getaway in wine country. Hardwood floors, high beamed ceilings, easy bicycle access to town and the beach. Studio also includes back patio to enjoy the lovely California weather.
We are local newspaper owners and raised our family in the main house. We have used the studio as a rental unit up until now but decided to remodel it and use it as a vacation getaway based on the advice of many friends. We would like to meet people who might want to swap houses later as well.
Cindy Rucker purchased this cottage in 1998
The Central Coast is the best part of California. Not only are we out in Edna Valley wine country we are also only 4 miles from the beach. Outdoor activities abound and downtown is full of fabulous restaurants and boutique shopping. We have had some friends visit SLO up to ten times without every beginning to do the same thing twice.
The space is awesome with tons of light, high ceilings and big trees. Great place to go on a long walk. Spring and summer we have fresh vegetables to offer. Plan one day of beach combing and pick up fresh ahi on the pier, plan another day for wine tasting, another day to enjoy downtown shopping and dining and a final day meandering up the coast to see Hearst Castle.
"The Getaway," as its called by its owner, is ideally located; it's five minutes from downtown San Luis Obispo, and also five minutes from Pismo Beach and other ocean communities. Oh, and down the street, are a couple of vineyards!
Bring your clothing and any wanted foodstuffs, and you'll be all set. Virtually all kitchen utensils and supplies are provided, as well as all bathroom needs. In fact, so much thought has went into providing guests with everything they might need, there's even light-reading material located near the toilet!
Your hosts, Cindy and Bob, are totally unobtrusive-they're there if you need them - in fact, they're a great resource if you have questions about the area - otherwise, you're on your own, and won't be disturbed.
This is as closed to a home away from home that you're likely to find. I just spent a month there, and I'll be back!
My husband and I had lived on the Central Coast for 20 years, but hadn't been back for a visit in about 20 years! So we wanted something centrally located, so we could easily drive to all of our old favorite places, and we wanted comfortable accommodations too, so we could relax at the end of a busy day. This place had it all! It was cozy, comfy, nicely furnished, with all the amenities you would find in your own home. We could easily drive to all the places we wanted to go, within minutes, yet had a nice private country setting. The owners were friendly, but didn't impose on your privacy at all (actually we would have liked to talk with them more, as they are very interesting people!) We arrived in the late afternoon, to find a nice welcoming note, along with a bottle of wine, fresh fruit and veggies, and a vase of flowers - that was NOT expected! I can't think of anyone who would be disappointed by this rental. Perfect choice!
Cindy and Bob were excellent hosts and all of their suggestions in their guest book were very helpful to us in our first week in SLO. From a welcoming bottle of wine to fresh fruits and vegetables from their garden, "hospitality" was the word.
My wife and I stayed here for our vacation to the central coast. We chose this place because we wanted to ride bikes to the wineries in the Edna Valley. The rental is a flat that shares the roofline with the owners house. It has a private entrance and fenced in patio area.
The photos in the listing are accurate. If anything they don't quite show how spacious the place is. We were happy to have the kitchen for when we didn't want to dine out. The patio was also a nice place to relax after bike riding. We did meet the owners, Cindy and Bob briefly. There's so much to do in the area we didn't spend much time "at home".
From the rental, it's easy to bike to a lot of wineries. Tolosa, Wolff, Baileyana, Edna Valley, Autry, Sextant were some of the ones we went to. It's a straight shot up Broad St. into downtown San Luis Obispo. Pismo Beach and Avila are not far away. Paso Robles is relatively close, about a 45 minute drive north. We went down to the Guadalupe dunes too.
For dining we enjoyed the Creekside Brewing Company and SLO Pasty Company in San Luis Obispo, the Olde Port Inn near Avila, and La Consecha in Paso Robles.
Another activity I would recommend is kayaking in San Luis Obispo bay. You can rent a kayak and paddle from the Port San Luis Boat Yard to the lighthouse. Make sure to go in the morning since they stop renting kayaks when the wind picks up in the afternoon.
My 2 young kids and I stayed at this place for the month of July, we had a wonderful time. The studio is pleasant, clean and comfortable, the neighborhood is friendly and safe. Its location is convenient for grocery shopping and all our summer activities: swimming, biking, hiking, beaches, tide pools, children's museum, outdoor concerts, etc.. We do have to do laundry at a laundromat, but that became a new experience for the kids, and we met really friendly people there. The host, Cindy and Bob, are warm, easy-going and very responsive. The made us feel welcome and special by providing helpful tips for kids activities, answering questions promptly, sharing fresh fruits, vegetables and other goodies. We would love to visit again and would recommend it to our friends.
The listing was accurate, photos appropriate, clean and well-maintained.Brochures,etc., were provided to guide your interests.Hiking opportunities, wine tasting and the downtown district(restaurants, shops, etc.,)is vibrant. The mission offered a quiet, restful and beautiful retreat.Montana de Oro and the walks surrounding Avila were outstanding. The weather(50's in the morning and evening and 70"s during the day)are a definite attraction.I highly recommend this cottage.
Located in the Heart of beautiful Edna Valley Wine Region you are 4 miles from beautiful Pacific Ocean Beaches and 3 miles from Historic Downtown San Luis Obispo. Wineries blanket the area.
