We are local newspaper owners and raised our family in the main house. We have used the studio as a rental unit up until now but decided to remodel it and use it as a vacation getaway based on the advice of many friends. We would like to meet people who might want to swap houses later as well.

Cindy Rucker purchased this cottage in 1998

The Central Coast is the best part of California. Not only are we out in Edna Valley wine country we are also only 4 miles from the beach. Outdoor activities abound and downtown is full of fabulous restaurants and boutique shopping. We have had some friends visit SLO up to ten times without every beginning to do the same thing twice.

The space is awesome with tons of light, high ceilings and big trees. Great place to go on a long walk. Spring and summer we have fresh vegetables to offer. Plan one day of beach combing and pick up fresh ahi on the pier, plan another day for wine tasting, another day to enjoy downtown shopping and dining and a final day meandering up the coast to see Hearst Castle.

Fun, relaxing summer

  • 5 of 5
My 2 young kids and I stayed at this place for the month of July, we had a wonderful time. The studio is pleasant, clean and comfortable, the neighborhood is friendly and safe. Its location is convenient for grocery shopping and all our summer activities: swimming, biking, hiking, beaches, tide pools, children's museum, outdoor concerts, etc.. We do have to do laundry at a laundromat, but that became a new experience for the kids, and we met really friendly people there. The host, Cindy and Bob, are warm, easy-going and very responsive. The made us feel welcome and special by providing helpful tips for kids activities, answering questions promptly, sharing fresh fruits, vegetables and other goodies. We would love to visit again and would recommend it to our friends.

The listing was accurate, photos appropriate, clean and well-maintained.Brochures,etc., were provided to guide your interests.Hiking opportunities, wine tasting and the downtown district(restaurants, shops, etc.,)is vibrant. The mission offered a quiet, restful and beautiful retreat.Montana de Oro and the walks surrounding Avila were outstanding. The weather(50's in the morning and evening and 70"s during the day)are a definite attraction.I highly recommend this cottage.

A Truly Wonderful Place

  • 5 of 5
We spent 15 terrific days in this lovely apartment escaping from the brutal Ohio winter of 2014. Can't say enough good things about the San Luis Obispo area, the studio apartment, or its owners. You can throw a rock in any direction and hit a vineyard / winery. 10 minutes to the beach, 10 minutes to downtown, 20 minutes to Morro Bay, and 90 minutes to Santa Barbara. The apartment is EXACTLY as pictured and described in the listing. Had everything needed for a 2-week stay, including a charcoal grill on the patio. We thought the size of the double bed might be a problem, but it wasn't. Owners are friendly and more than responsive - gave us restaurant and sightseeing recommendations that were spot on. Returned to the apartment several days to discover bags of delicious fresh produce on our doorstep! Can't go wrong here - we'd go back in a heartbeat!

LA Snob says thumbs up!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVED this place. We will be back! Not sure what Mike O's issue was or even if he got his stay confused with some place else. We had a blast and got a ton of much needed rest.

Our 8 year old son and his friend couldn't have been happier and asked if they could do the bunk bed thing at home.

The furnishings are all antique, the place was spotless and very charming. We had a 30 second issue with the internet that Cindy fixed in a couple of minutes. When we unpacked, we took the kids on a bike ride, NOT on the main highway but into the neighborhood our dog in tow.

The airport is a few miles from the rental and truthfully, we didn't hear or notice anything other the chirping of crickets and frogs; it was awesome. My husband and I sat on the patio together listening to the quiet. We have stayed in town before, and it is very noisy. This place was very peaceful.

Cindy and Bob left us alone but were always nearby with a smile and a wave and some great sightseeing and dining tips. On our last night we were so relaxed and appreciative that we invited them to join us for a cigar and a cocktail.

These are super cool people and well worth staying here. My husband and I usually stay in boutique hotels that cost a fortune and only recently started trying out these options. If you are on the large side, a full bed might not work for you, but complaining about it when its clearly stated BEFORE you rent it is a little bit of bad form. Making the suggestion to upgrade to a queen might be a more positive approach but then you don't get to sleep in the cool antique bed! We used the reviews and the photos to rent this place and everything was as you see it.

Thanks Cindy and Bob and sorry it took so long to post this! Hope to be up there again very soon (the kids will go to grandmas for the weekend!)

Cheers!

Bob & Cindy were Great! The location is wonderful - just outside of town, yet near & easy access to everything (town, ocean, etc). The rental has a "good feel" - roomy, clean, warm, quaint, & comfortable.

Hosts were friendly and not loquacious, a blessing because the "cottage" is attached to their home. The place was clean but a bit claustrophobic: only window in the living area is narrow and six feet from ground level: no view. A slider in the back looks upon an 8-foot fence enclosing a small patio (not appropriate for placing pets). It lies within throwing distance of a feeder road for a large community, hence there is both traffic noise and the inability to walk a dog in peace and quiet. The bunk beds are small and found in the pantry off the kitchen; there are no windows. It's the storage room replete with extra toilet paper and other household items. So: a full-size bed and two small bunks. Just letting you know that a full-size bed is pretty tiny for two adults. We brought our bikes, but one rides on a major road if headed for downtown SLO. A car is a must. The cottage is situated quite close to the airport, so expect to hear airplanes running up their engines. Expect to see and hear frequent plane and helicopter traffic. The kitchen had sufficient cookware, so it was nice to be able to cook our own meals.
