About Joe Pappaly / Mimi

We are Joe & Mimi, the owners who live in the main house upstairs in this beautiful Victorian. We purchased this house a few months ago, did some major renovation recently and decided to rent out the units below as vacation rentals. We would love to share our home with you and even give you some insights as to what to do, where to go and be of help if you are unsure of how to get around in the Bay Area, during your stay with us.

Joe Pappaly / Mimi purchased this apartment in 2012

Why Joe Pappaly / Mimi chose Alameda

We bought this property because we always wanted to live in a victorian and we simply love Alameda. The people, the weather, the proximity to everything and most of all the tranquility of this island.

What makes this apartment unique

We chose this particular property because of its unique Victorian look & feel of it. This home was built in 1891 by Peter Christiansen who was a very well known builder during his time. History books claim that he had built several Victorian homes in Alameda. This particular home that he had built was for himself. Historians claim that because of that, he used the best types of wood and construction materials available during his era to build this home. It sure seemed like that during our major remodel.

Year Three

  • 5 of 5

This was our third year in a row staying at Joe and Mimi's apartment. Need I say more? We are looking forward to our fourth stay early in 2016! It is perfect for us as one of our children lives near Walnut Creek and another in San Jose.

Cozy unit with all the amenities

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed here before, but in the larger unit. This is my first stay in the smaller unit and I have to say I loved it. The larger unit is wonderful, but since I'm a single I felt kind of guilty taking up all that space. And although the smaller unit would easily accommodate two people, it is perfect for one. Loved the bed. Slept better than I do at home. I continue to be amazed at the little touches. I used the laundry for the first time. It was easy. However after I put in my clothes it occurred to me that I needed something better than my dirty clothes bag to bring them back in. Of course there was a plastic hamper in the closet. They've thought of everything. Thanks again to the wonderful owners. It's always a pleasure! And I loved the banana nut bread!! How did you know it is my favorite?

Lovely - cozy and convenient

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a quiet place to stay in Alameda that would close to relatives in the area. This cozy apartment was everything that we wanted - location, enough space for two comfortably, place to relax and cook while we were not visiting with family. All the reviews were true!

Comfortable and Accommodating

  • 5 of 5

We spent an enjoyable 10 days in this cozy garden apartment, attractively decorated and nicely equipped. The landscaping is lovely and the backyard (just steps away) beautiful. The location (4 blocks from our new granddaughter) was perfect. Parking is easy and the neighborhood makes for good walking. Joe was an excellent host--extremely friendly and available to address all our needs. We look forward to returning to the larger apartment in the same home this December.
