When renting the B&B privately, it is still run as a B&B. It is the check in point, at reception, for our private rental homes in Pie in the Sky. The kitchen is for staff use only. Breakfast is included in the rate.
Also, check out our other accommodations, Pie in the Sky, above the Majestic Lodge. These three beautiful homes are our private rental homes and are just as outstanding as the Majestic Lodge. The views are amazing and the homes luxurious! You can view them on VRBO, listing numbers 442762 and 460480.
If a stay in the heart of the village is what you are looking for, we have listing numbers 438584 and 331162, as well.

Nancy and Dan Zintsmaster, an American couple from Key West, Florida, and the property managers of the Majestic, found El Castillo out of a desire to explore the areas off of the beaten track. “Upon arriving in El Castillo almost 10 years ago, and seeing the majestic Arenal Volcano and Lake Arenal, we fell in love with this area. After traveling all over Costa Rica looking for a place to retire, we arrived here and immediately knew that this was it...our special spot on the planet! The people were gracious and kind and always very helpful and accomodating. There are around 240 people in El Castillo and the other tiny villages that make up this area we call home. With only a dozen or so Americans we have been able to fully immerse ourselves into the 'tico' culture. It has been a wonderful experience getting to know and love our neighbors who welcomed us into their village and their lives. This is a place we are proud to call home.”

Being located on the Lake with a perfect view of the Majestic Volcano is spectacular. It is breathtaking and a very peaceful place!
This home is the best of both worlds. It is comfortable and elegant and it is in the middle of the rainforest! I love being away from it all, but still having the conveniences of wifi internet, satellite t.v., local restaurants, grocery stores and a gorgeous view as well. It is the perfect getaway!
We stayed 3 nights at the Majestic a couple of weeks ago with two other families, there were 14 of us, teens and adults. It was wonderful! The setting is beautiful, plenty of space for everyone and really enjoyed the hot tub. We never did see the volcano (due to clouds and rain). The dirt road to here is all pot holes - we figured out if you drive faster it is better! Brian was extremely helpful giving us recommendations and helping when we needed something, the women that cooked our breakfast and cleaned were always willing to help out. We asked for pancakes (for the teens) and they were glad to accomodate.
Make sure to check out the burritos and milkshakes at Kelly's in El Castillo!
While here we ziplined at Sky Trek - really great (except for the rainy day) and did the Sky Drift trip. Definitely the highlight of our trip - the tubing was a blast! Highly recommend, our youngest was 12, I wouldn't take anyone younger on that trip as it was fairly intense on the river. Also did the Cerra Chato hike one day, a memorable hike that we will talk about for years to come because it was very challenging, bring LOTS of water! We booked the Sky Trek and Drift through Nancy. Brian gave us directions to the start of the hike and we hired a a guide there rather than booking ahead (and paid MUCH less.)
We stayed at the Majestic last week and had a wonderful time. Nancy and her staff are so friendly and gave great advice of things to do in the area. The home is gorgeous, hot tub and pool were awesome, breakfast was yummy....We also enjoyed the horseback riding and Sky Trek zipline that Nancy recommended. I give this place a thumbs up, way up! If you have a larger group, try out their "Pie in the Sky" property.....it is amazing!! Thanks Nancy and pass along our happiness to your staff! Jim and Carmen, Orlando, Fl
Let me explain: Majestic Lodge is a bed and breakfast with a gorgeous swimming pool and hot tub overlooking Arenal Lake and Arenal Volcano. To get there, you have to drive several miles down a dirt road. But the good news is that many of the activities you might want to do in the Arenal area are also down that road: Arenal National Park, Sky Trek Adventures, Rancho Margo sustainable living farm, Arenal Observatory Lodge, and so on and so forth. The village of El Castillo (near to Majestic) is really nice and has several good dining options. Majestic Lodge itself is simply beautiful and has lovely views of Arenal Volcano. It is truly a beautiful, peaceful place at a reasonable rate. The breakfasts were good and the staff was so nice and friendly. Nancy, who is the manager, is just terrific. She is always just a phone call away and willing to make reservations for anything you might want to do. Just tell her what you want to do and she'll basically make sure it happens.
Now for the other good part: at the top of their hill (just up from the Lodge) is a whole other compound with Pie In the Sky (a two-bedroom house for rent), a larger house with several bedrooms and a living room, and two one-room casitas with private baths. Perched on the mountaintop, we were in a paradise with a rainforest behind us and facing a gorgeous view of Lake Arenal. It was amazing. There is a gazebo for watching the sunset or the forest. There is a swimming pool up there and facilities for grilling. It was just wonderful.
Nancy, the manager, could not have been more responsive or easier to deal with. Every time I emailed her before we came – she got right back to me – cheerfully and quickly! Thank you, Nancy, for all that you did to make our trip such a success.
We had a great time, loved it so much, its name definitely fits the place its totally majestic. Everyone is so nice, had the best time in there, enjoyed it way too much, just no words to explain, if you want to have incredible vacations, got to Majestic Lodge.
We had such a wonderful experience at the majestic. The property was beautiful, everything was very clean and luxurious, and the beautiful volcano and lake views were amazing. Very friendly and helpful owners and staff.
This is a great location for all the activities in the area; most of them seem to be along the long dirt road to this B&B. We arrived on a sunny day & found out from others after leaving the area (a day earlier than planned due to torrential rain) that we were really lucky to have seen the volcano. We were the only guests and never did meet Nancy but were well taken care of.
Directions to the Majestic Lodge - Take the Pan American Highway to San Ramon,Exit when you see the sign directing you to San Ramon and drive through the town of San Ramon following the signs of the volcano route. You will go through Bajo Rodriguez, La Tigra, Chachagua and then finally, La Fortuna. When you get to La Fortuna go through the town and pass Tabacon on your right, then go a few more miles(about 4 miles) until you see a tiny little police station on your right..you will take a left there onto a dirt road. Go 3 or 4 miles until you get to an intersection where you must take a left or a right. You will see a lot of signs directing you to different places in El Castillo. You will take a left. Go another few miles until you go over a small bridge and take your next right...at more signs. Keep going straight. You will pass the Sky Trek and continue to follow the road for a few miles, keep driving until you go over another small bridge. You will pass the school on your left. You will see signs directing you to the Majestic Lodge and Howlers Bar and Grill. Continue about 1 more km and you will pass our bar/grill, Howlers, on your left and then you will see the Majestic Lodge. Please try to get here before dark, as it is extremely difficult to navigate here at night if you don't know where you are going. My number is 8-703-1561 and the number at the Majestic is 2479-1085.
