Nancy and Dan Zintsmaster, an American couple from Key West, Florida, and the property managers of the Majestic, found El Castillo out of a desire to explore the areas off of the beaten track. “Upon arriving in El Castillo almost 10 years ago, and seeing the majestic Arenal Volcano and Lake Arenal, we fell in love with this area. After traveling all over Costa Rica looking for a place to retire, we arrived here and immediately knew that this was it...our special spot on the planet! The people were gracious and kind and always very helpful and accomodating. There are around 240 people in El Castillo and the other tiny villages that make up this area we call home. With only a dozen or so Americans we have been able to fully immerse ourselves into the 'tico' culture. It has been a wonderful experience getting to know and love our neighbors who welcomed us into their village and their lives. This is a place we are proud to call home.”

Wonderful vacation spot

We flew into San Jose and then rented a car for the drive to the villa ( Nancy gave us perfect directions). We were greeted immediately on arrival and shown to our rooms which were clean and comfortable. There is an amazing view of the lake and volcano that you get to enjoy as you sit on the deck and enjoy breakfast. Nancy helped us book several excursions and they were just as planned. It is an easy drive into the town of la fortuna if you want to spend some time walking downtown. We were pleased with the villa, it's location and all of the staff. I would recommend this place to anyone traveling to Costa Rica.

Already looking forward to our next visit!

I must admit I was hesitant about staying at a small B&B in a country I have never visited, but if they are all like The Majestic - I wouldn't do it any other way! Our group of four came to the area to enjoy many of the adventurous activities (waterfall repelling, whitewater rafting, zip lining, hiking through the rainforest) during the day. The Majestic offered the perfect balance to our high-energy days by offering a quiet, relaxing and BEAUTIFUL atmosphere at night and right away in the morning. We could come back to the Majestic, have a drink and relax in the pool. The staff is extremely helpful (food recommendations, directions), courteous and keeps well-run, clean environment at the villa. We enjoyed the privacy of our room with a private bathroom, but also liked that we could get to know all the other guests (including the local dogs!). Thanks for making our first visit to CR so enjoyable!

Ask about pie in the sky!

My fiancé and I ended up here because another property was booked and we were so happy with our stay! There are new cabainas on the hill above the bnb that they call pie in the sky that are beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. The view is incredible and the raised gazebo gets you even closer to the birds. Hummingbirds are everywhere and we even caught glimpses of toucans and parrots! Nancy was a great help with suggestions and getting things booked and making us feel at home and made sure any little glitch - the hot water was a bit temperamental at times in our cabina - was quickly taken care of. We were nervous about the gravelly roads at first but adjusted to the driving pretty quickly and were glad to be away from the more touristy area in la fortuna. The whole staff is warm and welcoming and the hotel is designed very tastefully.

Our Mission Team stayed here for some much needed R and R before heading back to the USA. We had a great time! Nancy and her staff were awesome. They helped to coordinate our time there with lots a various activities for a diverse group of people. The house was beautiful, clean and very comfortable! I highly recommend this place. The views of the volcano were breathtaking.

Best Place in La Fortuna area

We can't say enough about this fabulous property! The location, the accommodations, the staff, the food everything was outstanding. We were a group of 8 ranging in age from 22 to late 70's and stayed for 8 nights; everyone loved this property, and we especially enjoyed the staff. Nancy, Juan, Magdalena all went out of their way to make us feel at home. The decor was beautiful. We had a special meal prepared by Magdalena, served by Juan and Nancy and it was excellent. We also enjoyed meals, on Nancy's recommendation, at Pizza John, Mesa de Momma's Soda and Howlers all are located quite close to The Majestic. Anyone visiting this area should consider this property before any other.
