About Ron Sandy

My wife and I purchased Bearadise in 2008 and spent almost two years making it into the cabin retreat that we dreamed of. We have spent most of our free time enjoying the mountains with our 4 children. In July of 2011 we decided to share our cabin home with others and listed it with a local property management company. We quickly saw the downfalls in using a cabin rental company, both for the owners and the guests. We saw so many things we could do to improve our guests experience. We now enjoy handling the entire process ourselves. Our favorite part is talking to and meeting our guests from all over the country and overseas.

Ron Sandy purchased this cabin in 2008
Why Ron Sandy chose Ellijay

We didn't want a cabin located in a big resort that looked like a typical neighborhood, only with cabins. Driving up to Bearadise you drive over a wooden bridge that spans a beautiful trout stream. Going up the mountain is a single lane gravel road that passes four cabins before you reach us. Bearadise gives our guests 3 bedrooms, 3 baths with an additional queen size sleeper sofa for larger groups.

What makes this cabin unique

Bearadise is filled with knotty pine wood on the walls, doors & ceilings. The feeling is very warm and inviting and give an unmistakably cabin feel. A roaring fire in the wood burning fireplace on a chilly evening gives all the ambiance and romance anyone could ask for. Bearadise is handicapped accessible with a ramp/bridge leading into the cabin, with all living areas besides two bedrooms and a bath on the main living level. We are dog friendly and are happy to talk to you about bringing your best friend to the mountains.

Approximately fifteen minutes from Whitepath Golf Course, and three different rivers that offer tubing and kayaking, horseback riding, fly-fishing, whitewater rafting, hiking, scenic trains rides, antiquing, hassle free shopping, mini golf, children's amusement park, deer park, Amicalola Falls, apple orchards and much, much more. Cabin is located half way up Walnut Mountain with less than a dozen cabins on the mountain. We are located just outside of Ellijay with easy access to Blue Ridge. At the bottom of our road is Turniptown Creek where you will see fly fishers and people panning for gold on occasion. Ex-President Jimmy Carter's cabin is very nearby and has done much work personally making the creek habitable for trout by hand building rock dams for spawning pools. We are 4 miles from the Cartecay River with tubing and kayaking outfitters. Great local restaurants and shopping are within a 15 minute drive.

This list will not do justice to all the activities and attractions in this area. The local chambers of commerce have a wealth of the same, as well as knowledgeable and friendly personnel who love to share information about their special corner of paradise. Of course, you can also research the towns and general area on the Internet. Hiking galore, including the Appalachian and the Benton MacKaye.

Fishing, boating, Jet Skiing, tubing, whitewater rafting--Lake Blue Ridge, Toccoa River, Ocoee River Horseback riding, golf, mountain biking, gem and gold panning.

Antiquing--Blue Ridge has been called the antique capital of GA, and Ellijay, with its charming roundabout (instead of the typical courthouse square), has its share, too. Swan Drive-In Theater, one of the few remaining today, operating since 1955.

Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, on which you can take a narrated ride from Blue Ridge to the twin cities of McKaysville GA and Copperhill TN and stand with one foot in GA and one in TN--marked with a big blue line painted through the IGA Grocery parking lot.

Apple businesses where you can view the process from orchard to grocery bag, tour the facilities, shop for apple-themed goods and goodies, and try one of the area's delights: the fried pie! Ellijay is known as the apple capital of GA.

Wonderful local restaurants--just a few: the Toccoa Riverside, where on weekend nights a duet of two elderly, overall-clad bluegrass pickers entertain; the Pink Pig in Cherry Log, President Jimmy Carter's favorite BBQ joint; Colonel Poole's BBQ in Ellijay, where the hillside is decorated with a giant outline of a pig compiled of hundreds of plywood pigs naming past patrons (some celebrities), and our favorite Italian place, Charlies in Ellijay.

Festivals throughout the year: for example, Apple Festival, Sorghum Festival, Prater's Mill Festival, GA Mountain Fair (demonstrations of old-timey mountain practices), Rhododendron Festival, Bluegrass Festival, Dahlonega's Gold Rush Days.

Numerous state parks, national parks, and national forests, each with its own amenities, activities, and gorgeous scenery.

Marked scenic drives/highways, almost all with scenic pull-overs and overlooks, especially important during our gorgeous autumn 'leaf-gawking' season.

Countless waterfalls, one of which (Amicalola) is the tallest cascading falls east of the Mississippi; in the cabin are a pamphlets with descriptions and directions to 11 falls in the area--all of which we've hiked to--only a couple are strenuous treks.

Just a few miles from the cabin is the longest suspension bridge east of the Mississippi, a very short and easy hike brings you to where it crosses the Toccoa River.

A little further away is Tallulah Falls and Gorge, the deepest gorge east of the Mississippi(notice a pattern here?)--we've hiked to the bottom of it, and it is strenuous, but magnificent.

Many other sights within a short drive, such as Brasstown Bald, the highest point in GA, Dahlonega's Gold Museum, the Alpine town of Helen. Also available in-cabin are such services as massage and gourmet chef.

Getaway Weekend

This cabin was more than I could hope for. The King size bed was SO comfortable and my dog really enjoyed the large front yard. The property was very clean, although I was concerned about a mouse trap my dog found, and set off. Of course you will find these things in the wilderness, but for a pet friendly cabin, the mouse trap was most definitely not pet friendly. However, we had a great time in the hot tub, grilling, and generally enjoying the peace and quiet the mountain affords! A very short drive the Blue Ridge, we were able to enjoy the Memorial Day arts festival activities as well. I highly recommend.

Perfect getaway

Every year we stay in a different town for winter or spring break. After 7 years of cabins our whole family agreed we loved Bearadise the best! Quiet, comfortable, relaxing. We spent the days visiting the Ellijay and Blue Ridge area and antiquing then had movie marathons at night. Bearadise has tons of great movies we love and some we haven't seen so it was a treat.

The owners are very kind and helpful with any information you require. They even called us the first night to make sure we'd made it ok and see if we needed anything. That's the first time that's ever occurred for us! So very personable.

The beds are soft and large. The kitchen has everything you need to cook a great meal. The living room is cozy with the fireplace and tv perfectly placed so you can enjoy both. Lots of movies and games. We played checkers, trivial pursuit and clue. This is the perfect cabin if you want to leave the world behind and reconnect with your family.

This cabin would be great for anyone. With 3 bedrooms you have lots of space for your kids or a girls weekend away. Pet lovers - We brought our 2 small dogs so that was great. The cabin is pet friendly and there were no crazy fees to bring them. Romantic getaway - The master bedroom is huge and so is the master bath. The hot tub is large and faces the mountains so a beautiful view. We would definitely recommend this cabin to our friends and family!

Wonderful Cabin with great warmth and comfort for all

We stayed at this cabin from 2/21/2013 through 2/23/2013 and let me say that was not enough time to enjoy all the things available in this cabin. The hot tub, the fireplace and oh that big ole bed in the master retreat. We had room for us and our four extra pillows required for good sleeping. We shared the house with my daughter, her husband and her three children and of course miss Tia, our four legged child. She loved the place and the kids were in heaven with all the movies available to them and us. We played multiple games of war with all the card decks and had such a good time. One thing I must say that was a "super surprise" was the bottle of champange in the frig when we arrived. Cold and waiting for us. It was so loved by all adults that it forced someone down the mnt for another bottle. We also had wine and homemade lemon cello. Gosh we had such a good time and it was big enough for everyone to have their own space when needed. We hiked up both the trails with everyone and then just took the two younger kids and man did they have fun..Their rock collection is much bigger thanks to the days at this cabin. If you are looking for a place to call heaven for a few days or more, just click on the reserve button and you will hear back from Ron and his wife very quickly. They answered all my questions and even called to make sure we arrived ok. They pamered us from start to finish. We will be back to this cabin again. I am ready now. Enjoyed the stay so much. Thanks you guys.

Beautiful Mountain Retreat

The cabin was gorgeous, the decor was cozy, and everything was sparkling clean! Directions were very accurate and we had no problems finding the cabin. The photos can not possibly meet the beauty of the views from the front porch. The beds were so comfortable, I didn't want to get up! I would recommend this property to anyone, not just friends and family. The only criticism I had is that there is not enough cooking essentials provided. For instance, there is a coffee maker but no coffee. We brought our own, so no big deal, but there was no sugar. Or flour. And some cooking oil or spray would've been nice to have. I will definitely remember to bring all the essentials next time I visit. And there will definitely be a next time!
