Yuba River Retreat

Tucked into a scenic setting in the Sierra Foothills just outside of Nevada City is this charming house with plenty of room for a group stay. There were seven people in our group. The house was very clean and well maintained as well as the outside area around the house. The deck was a delight. There is an easy hike for most people to some waterfalls on a creek that empty into the Yuba River.

Heading down Purdon Road in front of the house leads you to Purdon Crossing bridge…a beautiful spot on the Yuba River. The house reflected fairly well what was shown in the photos.

The lodging is about 10 minutes from downtown Nevada City with some nice eateries…a standout being New Moon Cafe…a foodies gastronomic delight!

The kitchen in the house is a little tight navigating around with some quirky spots for light switches. Could use some more utensils, bowls and the like but enough to get by.

The owner, Alicia, is nice and responsive and has provided a wonderful spot to get away and enjoy each other's company in a beautiful natural setting.

Weekend Get-Away

The place was great. Large 5 bedroom, so a perfect retreat if you have a large group. All bedrooms were of good size and the furnishings where modern and clean. The kitchen is good sized for preparing food and the kitchen table was awesome sized to accommodate our 10 guests. Wood burning fireplace made for a cozy gathering spot. Only complaint would be that it is a bit far from downtown Nevada City - a good 15 minute drive and we had a slight issue with the gas BBQ not getting hot enough, I think that they could use a little larger BBQ for the size of the house. But overall - still an excellent experience.

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay and the Wild and Scenic festival! The bbq works fine now. One of the valves just needed to be cleared.

We are happy to share our home with guests--a rural location with miles of hiking trails, while just 10-15 minutes from downtown. Hope to see you for the festival again next year or during the summer swimming weather.

My group of 9 stayed comfortably for 4 nights and the house was perfect for us. It was plenty big, and had a pool table to keep us busy at night. The best part about our stay was the series of trails leading off of the property. Some trails were short (10 min) and some were long (hour) but all were gorgeous and had beautiful destinations; creeks, rivers, waterfalls. We hiked everyday and never took the same trail twice. I would definitely love to come back in the summer to try and see if the water is swimmable. The river is so crystal clear, it is beautiful.

We rented this gorgeous retreat for a New Year's dinner party for my husband and I and 10 of our dear friends. Everything from the kitchen to the bath towels was perfect and beyond expectation for our high standards, nature loving Bay Area friends. We hiked the beautiful trails, cooked up a gourmet feast and played lots of card games. All of our friends ask us when we can go back, it was a really special venue for celebrating! Our friends' dogs loved the property as well!

Working with Alicia, the property owner, has been a joy. She is responsive and attentive to every detail and I just can't say enough wonderful things about the overall experience. We will definitely be back to the retreat as soon as we have the opportunity!

Our family stayed here for the second year in a row over Thanksgiving, and we enjoyed it even more this year. The house has been lovingly renovated to a more open, free-flowing space, and with twelve of us plus two dogs, we felt very spread out and comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed and plenty of space for all of us wanting to cook, and the beautiful new dining table seated us all very easily. Alicia has taken great care to provide her guests with all the comforts, and is always quick to respond to any inquiries or requests. We loved the outdoors deck and took advantage of it each evening at sunset, and with the property's quiet, off-the-beaten-path location, the star-gazing at night was magnificent. We look forward to returning again, as the area offers boundless opportunities to explore and enjoy.
