Cynthia Brown purchased this house in 2011
We used to visit family in Southwest Florida every year and fell in love with the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area for its vibrancy and multi-cultural flair. Hollywood is a city with a smaller town feel but yet is very accessible to Fort Lauderdale and Miami.
The house is full of vintage charm as it is a Craftsman style home built in the 1940's. It still has its original dade pine floors and small touches of woodwork. Matured trees graced the yard making it a wonderful place to enjoy the outdoors.
we had an excellent vacation, the cottage was great and the situation was very good, we recommand to other people, thank to the owners,
Don't be deceived by the advertising, all you gonna get is a room with one bed and a couch with a bathroom, no more! No chairs, no table, no closet, no laundry, not even air conditioning!!! No microwave, no kitchen, the outdoor kitchen is bad joke, it's nothing than a dirty old griller!
You're better off going to Travelodge for half price and you'll get more than this!
Downtown Vintage Charm - is the perfect name for this cozy room!
Very clean and lovely furnished, we loved the huge bed :) Nice bathroom like expected from the pictures.
Its great located close to the beautiful Hollywood beach (which I`d choose over Miami Beach any time!) with its nice Broadwalk. We loved the closeness to downtown Hollywood with bars, restaurants and shops (within walking distance) and to Miami, Sawgrass Mills Mall or daytrips to the Everglades.
We stayed two evenings at "downtown vintage charm" and really enjoyed ourselves. The "room" was spacious and clean. The king sized bed was very comfortable. The mini fridge was a great bonus - great to chill lotion for our sunburned skin, lol. The bathroom was bright & clean with shampoo provided. There was not a hair dryer.
The beach & boardwalk in Hollywood is really busy and parking can be quite tricky on a beautiful day. There is a parking garage & parking on the street - but I would suggest heading to the beach at an earlier time to reduce stress with finding spots. The garage was "full" when we left at 2pm. I would guess that it would be a 30 minute walk to the beach (approx. 2 miles)
Downtown Hollywood is a short five minute walk - we enjoyed breakfast each morning at Chocolada - which I can definitely recommend. We picked up two cafe con leches & a delicious "ham & cheese" croissant for our drive out of town - yum.
On Monday evenings, there is a food truck gathering in Young Circle (also a 5 minute walk) that was so fun! The Publix grocery store & Starbucks are also very close by, which is a real plus.
You really can't beat the price to rent the "room" but noise can be an issue. We were extra careful with the television volume at night but could clearly hear the owners on the phone in the morning in their area of the house. We would absolutely return but it is worth noting that this is not like a typical hotel room.
We had a fantastic stay at Downtown Vintage Charm. The location is near the beach, within walking distance of many shops and restaurants, and in a safe neighborhood. Six blocks away is Hollywood Blvd, with tons of restaurants and cafes. Walk one more block and you will be in the Arts Park, with playgrounds ,art sculptures, great green space, and even an art museum (which was closed when we went, but looked cool). It was around a 5-minute drive to Hollywood beach and the Broadwalk (check it out!). I recommend driving east until you get to the bridge that overlooks the Hollywood Resort, find parking on the west side of the bridge, then walk across the bridge and the last couple of blocks to get to the Broadwalk and the beach. Then, spend the whole day out there! The Broadwalk has all the shops, restaurants, cafes, playgrounds, and beach you could possibly want, without the crazy Spring-Breakers. By using street parking on the other side, you will save yourself a good chunk of change.
The room is sufficiently big, and the owners ensure it is stocked with all you need (DVDs, books, a refrigerator, coffee, shampoo and body wash!). We had access to a beautiful backyard with a grill and outdoor seating. It was all an incredible value, especially considering motels and hotels around this area can be twice the price and half the cleanliness / friendliness / amenities.
Our only gripes that keep it from being a 5-star review are the thin walls and ants. The owners live in the same house, separated by only a thin wall, and we were always conscious that we may disturb them (although they never mentioned it, and only required quiet hours after 10 pm, which is generous). There is not the same freedom you may feel in a hotel room where, even if you are loud, you don't really care about the neighbors. Also, a couple of days in to our stay, a small ant infestation occurred in the room. We notified Quentin, and he promptly provided us with effective treatment options, as well as personally spraying down the trail of ants for us.
All that said, you will not be disappointed with your choice in this beautiful home for your vacation!
We stayed for a short week with our 3 year old boy. The room was big enough for all of us to comfortably stay in (2 adults and a child). The location is a short car ride from the beautiful and easily accessible Hollywood beach with fun restaurants on the boardwalk. And a 5 minute walk to the downtown strip with plenty of variety in restaurants. Cynthia and Quentin were very helpful with directions and accommodated us with some beach toys and were So very friendly to make us feel right at home. Thank you for making a memorable vacation.
An easy, short 3 blocks walk to Hollywood's vibrant downtown. The house is located on a very quiet street with friendly neighbors. 5 mins drive to the Hollywood Beach with boardwalk. Conveniently located close to trolley stop for your daytime explorations. Lots more to do and see in Fort Lauderdale about 15 mins away and Miami about 25 mins south.
