About Kathryn and Bill Foster

Aloha, Bill and I have lived in Hawaii for 20 years. We discovered the Kaloko area and fell in love. It is the best of both worlds, sunny mornings, afternoon showers and cooler nights for comfortable sleeping. Still only 10 minutes to the beach and 13 minutes to Kona town. Bill is a builder and woodworker who loves to surf and kitesurf. I love to hike, I am on the local trails daily with our dogs Dude and Lola. I also love the ocean, and I am a Yoga instructor.

Why Kathryn and Bill Foster chose Kailua Kona

Get a unique Hawaii experience. Wake to the sounds of birds, hike through the forest of Ohia, Koa and Hapu Ferns, and pick wild Lilikoi.

What makes this cottage unique

Tucked into the fern forest, ideal for hiking, bird watching and photography. If you find the heat in town a bit much for you, this is the ideal location. The Big Island is known for it's world class fishing and active volcano.

Craftsman in the woods(jungle)

  • 5 of 5

They really tried hard with their attention to detail. The cat , Ollie, was marvelous. For a pet lover that was very special. The house was very comfortable, and is actually much nicer than pictures portray. Beautiful location! Fun hiking trail nearby. Only downside, a little far from beaches and town. Very quiet, and nice and cool for sleeping. We had the house to ourselves for a week and then our daughter and son in law joined us for a week. Great fun, great eats! A different part of the island that we had never explored. Loved the phesants.

Ideal Location

  • 5 of 5

I am a former longtime resident of Kona, and this was the second time I rented this property when I returned to vacation on the island. It is the perfect location for those who enjoy peace and quiet. I love staying close to some of my favorite trails, and there are great views of the stars on clear nights. For those who want privacy, staying at this elevation surrounded by forest is far superior to vacation rentals at sea level.

Beautiful Cottage

  • 4 of 5

We are former residents of Kamuela, and wanted to sleep in the cooler air of the mountains. This was a really quiet, private place to do just that, and still be close to the great beaches of the Kohala Coast. Loved the expert joiner-work in the cottage, exposed and pegged beams, and the great outdoor soaking tub! There is dish TV, good stereo, could use a WIFI connection. Thanks Kathryn and Bill!

Simply Wonderful.

  • 5 of 5

We just loved this place. I guess this was our 8th visit to Kona and, tired of cooking in the heat down by the water, we opted for the cool humid cloud forest up high. It was the right decision. We loved the lush jungle trails, the quiet walk to the coffee plantation, and the privacy. The giant tree ferns and Ohia trees were beautiful – with the sun in the morning and the mist in the afternoon. Who would have thought a wood burning stove would be appropriate? The house is immaculate and beautiful with the gardens out front, and we loved Ollie the friendly and rambunctious cat that made himself at home. Thanks, and we will surely try to come back.

Cool and tropical

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful location. Temperature was 15 - 20 degrees cooler than at the beach. Lovely sleeping at 65 degrees. Great trails from house into cloud forest. Private and quiet. Bill and Kathy were great with good tips on diving and beaches.

Zen House

  • 5 of 5

I am so glad we chose this beautiful home in the mountains. The detail of craftsmanship in the home is beautiful. Very comfy bed, nice kitchen. Even the window sills are Koa wood. Every morning we woke up to the music of birds and looking into the surrounding jungle shows you the real Hawaii. We were just minutes to Kona and the airport. I loved relaxing in the bathtub on the deck and listening to nature. On Sunday we stayed at the house instead of running around doing things on the island. It was a perfect time to read and really relax before our flight home the next day. The owner's Bill and Kathy have certainly made a paradise here. Thank you for sharing your lovely guest home and beautiful property with us.
