Walk along the beach of beautiful Paradise Cove, or bicycle, kayak, hike, read, bird-watch, fish, play boardgames, drink Vashon made beer or wines, relax and breathe easy. Featured repeatedly in Sunset Magazine and New York Times online, this is a creative community of farmers, writers, artists, entrepreneurs and Seattle commuters. Small, intimate Vashon Island, the original home of K2 skis, and SBC coffee, remains an outdoor and coffee lovers paradise. Ride a bike and sip coffee/eat ice cream at Minglement Roasterie or Cafe Luna, visit Wings Bird Seed Co. for information about birding, bring your kayak and circumnavigate the island! Attend our local opera or First Friday art tour. Make an appointment at Wolftown, a wolf rescue facility. Experience the magic of a quiet, intimate, laid back friendly island life. The island is about 12 miles long by 8 miles wide. Your Vashon adventure begins with a ferry ride (cars and cycles) from West Seattle (Faunleroy Ferry Dock, 20 minutes to Vashon), Tacoma (Point Defiance, 15 minutes), or the Olympic Penninsula (South Worth, 10 minutes) with views of other islands as well as the Cascade and Olympic Mountains. A Passenger Only ('the PO boat') to and from Vashon provides a 35 minute crossing to downtown Seattle for Seattle sightseeing on foot, during the weekdays. Visit famous Pike Place Market, SAM art museum, Pioneer Square, Experience Music Project (EMP) and the Space Needle. Your host owns Cinnamon Works at Pike Place so put in an order for our gluten free or regular sweets and find them waiting in your beach house! Ask for a tour of our sheep farm as well, particularly interesting to children during lambing season. Public transportation is available on island, yet a car is preferable due to limited hours of operation.
