Good Location for Olivent Nazarene University Parents!
We just got back from a weekend stay at 'Grace Place'. It was a delight, from the location, the owners, and the home and amenities. Our daughter graduated from Olivet Nazarene University and we needed a place to stay for the festivities. Although we tried to book a hotel room in the Kankakee/Bourbounnais area initially, we found we were too late - so we turned to VRBO. It turned out to be serendipitous for us! The home sleeps at least 6 (two queens and two twins) so we saved money staying here with four adults compared to a hotel. It was only 10-15 minutes to get to campus, but the difference in pace was well worth the short drive. The home sits on a little lake on a cul-de-sac. The owners were very flexible in meeting us to show us around the home, which helped us out immensely since we had a few ceremonies to attend and also needed to move our daughter out of the dorms. The lake is full of fish, and we were able to take advantage of some paddle boats plus another boat and trolling motor for fishing and recreation. Although the house is near some train tracks, I didn't find that to be very loud; in fact it was kind of comforting - and I slept well both nights at the home, even though that is rare for me when traveling. We enjoyed some of the local restaurants, of which some are easily within walking distance; purchased some food at the locally owned but well-stocked and reasonably priced grocery; and just kicked back in the lakeside gazebo. It is almost against my own interests that I write this review - because we have already begun planning to go back for a visit and I hope their is availability! The owners are very nice, helped us with the boats, gave my wife a golf-cart tour of the quaint business district and lake area, and even rounded up some bait. We didn't end up cooking but we nosed around enough to see that they had everything a person might need including some spices, utensils, cookware and serving items, and even a nice assortment of coffees for the coffeemaker. It was fortunate for us that we had trouble booking one of the chain hotels, because staying in this Manteno house made the weekend even better than our purpose for being in the area.
