Our Guests say it better than we can!
'Gardener's Cottage' is located in Historic Flat Rock on the Beckon Ridge Estate. Overlooking a picture perfect pond, you will feel the stress drain from your soul as you listen to the sound of water running downstream and watch the fish swim casually about. How can this special place be so close to town?
Inside you will find the 1 BR & 1 bath cottage comfortable and cozy. Downstairs is a fully equipped kitchen and dining area overlooking the pond & living room with 32 inch flat screen TV. The furniture is comfortable and practical.
Up the spiral stair (or the exterior steps) is the lovely bedroom with queen sized bed and bathroom with stall shower and laundry area. The cottage has central air and heat and is bright and airy.
Sit outside the bedroom on the small covered balcony to enjoy your morning coffee, evening cocktail or to read a book. It is a lovely private space overlooking the pond, dam and grounds.
While walking along the stream & around the pond (you may stay on the paved drive if you prefer), remember to stop for a bit to sit on a bench or one of the landscape walls and notice how nature surrounds you. The wonderful wildlife and foliage is not to be missed.
If you come by motorcycle, you probably know that this whole area is a Bikers Bonanza with great rides in all directions! Cruise Little River Rd, to Crab Creek to Dupont Forest or to Pisgah Forest and the ultimate...the Blue Ridge Parkway. (For your convenience, covered bike parking is gladly provided at the main house.)
All that Historic Flat Rock has to offer, the shops at Little Rainbow Row, Carl Sandburgs Connemara Farm, the goats, the Playhouse are all less than 2 miles away...and Hendersonville's historic Main Street is only 3 miles away, with many excellent restaurants, shops, and exhibits...and Saluda, The Green River Gorge with kayaking, tubing, waterfalls fishing and - ZIP LINES OVER THE TREES- all within a half hours drive. Breweries and Wineries abound!
You know, when the Gardener ran off with the Maid, we were concerned... But The Maids Quarters have been rented, and the Gardeners Cottage is ready for your arrival; so give us a call. OUR CALENDAR IS KEPT UP TO DATE - BOOK NOW!
*The owners live in the main house. They enjoy their privacy and they will respect yours.

We are formerly from the Catskill Mountains and Long Island in NY. When the kids moved on, we did too! We are semi retired and from the mountains, so WNC was an easy transition. We are just loving it here and hope you will too. We manage our property without pesticides. We raise Honeybees and Free ranging, organically fed Chickens and have been planting fruit trees all around our 8+ acres. We have stepped it up a bit this year by taking over the management of the Flat Rock Farmers Market for the FR Merchants Association. We hope you visit it while you are here at the Gardener's Cottage at Beckon Ridge. Memberships include: The Henderson County Beekeepers and The Hendersonville Hens as well as the Chamber and the Merchants Association.
Victor & Darlene purchased this cottage in 2012
We fell in love with this home and with Flat Rock. We are pleased to offer Gardener's Cottage for your vacation stay.
The grounds, the pond, the stream, distance to town, watching the water over the dam. You too will love Gardener's Cottage.
Gardener's Cottage is a place to be sure to stay. Surrounded by pines, hemlocks,, and a small pond, it is sure to delight everyone. The welcome basket had a variety of locally made items that we quickly enjoyed. The cottage itself was cozy and comfortable. There were so many things to do and see in the area that we had trouble getting it all in. We visited museums, ate at local restaurants, visited local shops, went on tours, and hiked. The play at the Flat Rock Playhouse was unforgettable and the playhouse should not be missed. At the end of the day we relaxed by the chimea with a glass of wine or stayed in the hammock to enjoy the sunlight sparkling on the pond. The cottage is the perfect place to relax and visit.
We were delighted to spend a week at the cottage. 1st thing that stands out is the wonderful night sleep afforded by the well appointed bed. Add a park like setting that was complemented by the babbling brook and you find yourself with a perfect place to relax. Flat Rock was delightful (the Bakery is not to be missed).
I cannot stop sharing with my friends and family what a great experience my husband and I had at the Gardener's Cottage! I have recommended it to everyone I know, and can't wait to add to the memories here in the future. Victor and Darlene are wonderful and made our stay so relaxing. The cottage was well equipped with all necessities to use at our disposal. We enjoyed the farm fresh eggs provided by Victor and Darlene along with the welcome basket full of hometown goodies. The cottage was very nice and everything was CLEAN and fresh! We felt right at home and can't wait to return!
We came to Flat Rock for a mini mid-week vacation. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Gardener's Cottage. Our hosts were wonderful and thought of everything: a welcome basket of local treats including fresh eggs from the property's hens, information on all of the nearby attractions, great recommendations for dining, and a suggestion to visit the local farmer's market which we really enjoyed. We appreciated their attention to detail in providing a well appointed kitchen and bath and comfortable surroundings. Each evening, after a day of hiking, we sat outside by the pond with a glass of wine, enjoying the peaceful quiet and watching the chickens and guinea hens. We will definitely be back!
My boyfriend and I were looking to escape the hustle & bustle for a few days and this was the perfect place. It was such a wonderful stay. The cottage was just as pictured, cozy, clean and what a sweet view. It sits right on a pond & is surrounded by beautiful trees. Our host was very nice & helpful in suggesting things to do and places to eat. We hope to go back before too long.
We spent a week at Gardner's Cottage following our wedding and could not have asked for a more perfect, secluded getaway that is still within close proximity to great food, sightseeing and activities. At the owners' recommendation, we did the zip line at The Gorge (just 10-15 min. away) and were blown away by the experience -- truly exhilarating! We also drove nearby to the Skytop Orchard and picked fresh apples, and took a scenic hike at the Carl Sandburg historic home. Downtown Hendersonville, also just minutes away, provided some leisurely shopping and dining. But nothing beats waking up to the serenity of the cottage and surrounding property. It is a cozy little spot, and the owners, Victor and Darlene, are as hospitable and helpful as they come. It is truly our home away from home and we can't wait to return next year and many years to follow.
Gardeners Cottage is only 2 miles to The Carl Sandburg National Historic Site, the Flat Rock Playhouse, The Cinema, restaurants, golf, and Main Street Hendersonville with all its shops and nightlife.
Within a couple of miles you can patronize any number of good eating and drinking establishments, some with live entertainment on weekend nights. And you are only a few minutes from the supermarket or the food co-op for organic foods.
In addition to hiking trails and the House Tour, the Sandburg site, (aka Connemara Farm) is steeped in Civil War history. And be sure to see their nationally recognized goat herd. Of course the Dupont Forest, is just a short drive and The Green River Gorge with tube rentals and easy access for fishing and kayaking is just 30 minutes south. Zipline over the forest - AMAZING!
There is just so much to see and do around here in any season. The only problem is that once you find the hammock, you may not want to get up and go anywhere!
Private, but not isolated, Gardeners Cottage is right smack dab where you want to be!
