Together Cindy and her partner Mark(pictured) manage the day to day details of The Good Earth. Cindy and her brother Bob purchased the house and property together in the spring of 2012. Cindy lives in Oregon and retired in 2008 after 30 years of service with the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Department. Bob lives in Northern Virginia, and retired from GSA with the federal government in 1997. Cindy is a mother, published freelance writer, and a foster caregiver for Brightside Animal Center. Bob is an avid reader, and a history and plane buff. Mark is a gifted 'jack of all trades' and keeps everything at the rental running like a well oiled machine! He usually greets all the guests personally and keeps that fire stoked just perfectly for a relaxing soak in the cedar Snorkel hot tub! Cindy and Mark are the faces you will see here at The Good Earth, and are always ready to help in any way to make sure your stay is as enjoyable and pleasant as it can possibly be.

Cindy Murphy purchased this house in 2012

The shop, the chicken coop, raised beds, atrium, vegetation, the wildlife and colorful lizards, end of the road privacy and the view, the view, the view!! We live in this neighborhood, know and love the area, and are only minutes away to provide the best customer service possible. This is a gem of a house, and so close to everything!

Besides the majestic vista, out the back door hiking, open space and privacy, we are also part of a small community water system in the same aquifer as Earth2O which means good clear water! There is a newly paved road, unique quiet neighborhood with no light pollution and thousands of brilliant stars in the night sky! The raised garden beds, and healthy herb gardens provide extras for summer guests who like to cook! We are only a mile away from Hwy 97, and right in the heart of outdoor recreation at it's finest.

GREAT PLACE

  • 5 of 5
Thanks (again) for another great stay at The Good Earth. Our 2nd time here was just as good as the first. Great location. Our kids loved the chickens...and we loved the fresh eggs and coffee and wine. Close to Smith Rock State Park for climbing and running and to the many other great outdoor areas Central Oregon has to offer. Thanks!

Owner's Response: We love returning guests! That tells us that we are doing great things, and people enjoy what we offer well enough to book another stay! Many visiting children are fascinated with our chickens and love the ability to gather their own eggs from the nest. It is really fun to host people that enjoy a little country experience out here on a couple acres. We are rural but are less than a mile to the main highway that leads to all kinds of Central Oregon adventures! The summer solstice arrived last weekend and those long lazy warm days have settled in to stay for awhile. Enjoy a relaxing break soon at The Good Earth, and happy summer!!!

FABULOUS WEEK IN CENTRAL OREGON

  • 5 of 5
We just returned from spending 8 nights at The Good Earth. It was a fabulous vacation and the home was a spectacular place to stay. We immensely enjoyed the views, the fully appointed kitchen, the snorkel hot tub, etc. We cannot say enough good things about this rental. The added personal touches from the owners, with the fresh coffee, eggs, fresh cut flowers were very appreciated. The place is great and we would return in a heartbeat. It was about a 10 minute drive to Smith Rock State park where we spent a fair amount of the week climbing, and it was about a 5-10 minute drive to Redmond for grocery shopping. It was approximately 30 minutes to Bend, as well.

Owner's Response: It's so true! We are centrally located near many very cool places to visit. Along with Smith Rock, Bend and Redmond (our growing newbie in the brewery world) we are only a short ride from 2 fabulous wineries, beautiful lakes, forests, and rivers. All the climbers who stayed with us eventually needed a break from the rocks and took full advantage of what is unique to Central Oregon. It is a gorgeous time of year here in the High Desert and although the spring flowers have faded, the summer roses and gardens are flourishing. The toasty days invite basking in the sun and the mild evenings make lingering on the patio or soaking in the wood fired tub especially magical. With the summer solstice approaching it is time to take it all outside and when you do, make The Good Earth your place to come home to.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURERS

  • 5 of 5
We travel quite extensively and this was one of our most enjoyable stays. Close to virtually any outdoor activity, we used this location to rock climb, mountain climb, and ski. The proprietors were more than friendly and catered to our every need. The property was beautiful, clean, secluded, and had great views. We would recommend whole heartedly and hope to be back.

Owner's Response: The really awesome thing about The Good Earth is you simply cannot have a bad day there. While our last guests made the most of every day, the spring rains did shower on them as their time here went by and they still had a wonderful experience. Whether it is sunny, raining or snowing, the scenery changes beautifully with the weather in a stunning way. You can watch the storm fronts roll like a creeping beast over the Cascades, see stars with crystal clarity on a cloudless night, or watch low clouds create moving art at Smith Rock when rain speckles the windows. This is a tranquil retreat in every sense of the word. We do boast about many days of sun here in Central Oregon and it is true! The warmer weather seems to have arrived and we have recently planted more in the gardens! Trails are opening up as the snow melts and climbing is in full swing! We so love that people want to return to this comfy place with the spectacular views! Visit us soon!!!
Happy May!

Owner's Response: Our guests always receive those extra special touches to make their visit the best it can be. We live in the same neighborhood as The Good Earth, so we are always nearby for travel tips and assistance as well as being on top of maintenance daily.

Mark keeps the snorkel hot tub going as requested, and fresh flowers greet guests upon arrival. Eggs from our resident chickens are in the fridge and 1/2 pound of coffee beans on the counter. We also provide your choice of either wine, beer or sparkling cider. As the growing season allows, our gardens are always open for gathering goodies for salads or other additions to a home-cooked meal.

We are thrilled at the response people have to The Good Earth. We strive to make it a place that we would like to find if we were out traveling. In addition to that, the views from the house are absolutely incredible, so much so that some people drive in park their cars, and just stare at the view awhile before unpacking. It is seriously that breath-taking here!

The weather has been gorgeous and warm with wildflowers popping up on the hills and trails behind the house. The fields of rural Terrebonne are green and lush and to the west the Cascade peaks are brilliant against a canvas of blue sky. It is one of the best times to visit Central Oregon! Make The Good Earth your own headquarters for exploration!
Cheers!!

FEELS LIKE HOME...

  • 5 of 5
I could rave about all the little touches that make this place incredible, from the eggs and coffee to the attentive care and suggestions, but I think what stands out for me is that I want to return so frequently that I almost hesitated to give a good review as I fear it will be booked up the next time I come :) This is truly a great place to spend some time with family, friends, or on your own.

Owner's Response: This sums up The Good Earth extremely well! We do work super hard to be spot on every time we have guests arriving. Nice extra touches, super clean, great views, and close to whatever activities draw you to Central Oregon. It is true though that we are getting really busy! Not only do we have many new guests staying for the first time, we are having more and more repeat visitors. Unfortunately, some have wanted the same dates and we couldn't accommodate everyone. Our suggestion is pick your dates and send an inquiry as soon as you can to snag a spot! Our calendar is always up to date!! We are receiving some spring showers here with breaking sun now and then. It is a perfect recipe for a very green landscape dotted with blooming flowers and trees! It is gorgeous in the Terrebonne area as April approaches its last full week, come check out The Good Earth soon!!
Blessings!

LOVE THIS HOME

  • 5 of 5
Beautiful home with amazing views! Owners really do pay attention to the details in making place a wonderful retreat. We stayed there with another family of 3. Our toddlers had plenty of room to run and enjoyed playing with the Easter baskets with plastic eggs. Even though the girls enjoyed petting the chickens, we loved having fresh eggs available. Thank you for the day pass, too! We definitely plan to stay here again for future climbing trips to Smith Rock.

Owner's Response: At The Good Earth we really do take great pride in attention to detail. We are local owners, and are always available if our guests need something during their visit. Our last guests loved the fresh chicken eggs so much that we gave them another dozen to enjoy during their stay!
The gardens are being planted as the weather allows and the threat of frost diminishes. Currently the lettuce, dill, and arugula seeds are in the ground and the asparagus is finally peeking through the soil. We plan on adding potatoes, squash and tomatoes as warmer days arrive. As always our herbs and veggies are available for guests as they become available, fresh from the garden!
Our close proximity to Smith Rock State Park (4.5 miles) and to Highway 97 (1 mile) make it easy to access climbing, hiking, fishing, biking, car shows and all the other amazing activities here in Central Oregon. The Good Earth is a great home away from home whether you are outdoorsy, or just like kicking back with your feet up and a good book, (and...may we suggest Wild by Cheryl Strayed which will soon be a movie and partly filmed around the Bend area!) Life is always interesting here!

Happy Spring!!
