Together Cindy and her partner Mark(pictured) manage the day to day details of The Good Earth. Cindy and her brother Bob purchased the house and property together in the spring of 2012. Cindy lives in Oregon and retired in 2008 after 30 years of service with the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Department. Bob lives in Northern Virginia, and retired from GSA with the federal government in 1997. Cindy is a mother, published freelance writer, and a foster caregiver for Brightside Animal Center. Bob is an avid reader, and a history and plane buff. Mark is a gifted 'jack of all trades' and keeps everything at the rental running like a well oiled machine! He usually greets all the guests personally and keeps that fire stoked just perfectly for a relaxing soak in the cedar Snorkel hot tub! Cindy and Mark are the faces you will see here at The Good Earth, and are always ready to help in any way to make sure your stay is as enjoyable and pleasant as it can possibly be.

Cindy Murphy purchased this house in 2012

The shop, the chicken coop, raised beds, atrium, vegetation, the wildlife and colorful lizards, end of the road privacy and the view, the view, the view!! We live in this neighborhood, know and love the area, and are only minutes away to provide the best customer service possible. This is a gem of a house, and so close to everything!

Besides the majestic vista, out the back door hiking, open space and privacy, we are also part of a small community water system in the same aquifer as Earth2O which means good clear water! There is a newly paved road, unique quiet neighborhood with no light pollution and thousands of brilliant stars in the night sky! The raised garden beds, and healthy herb gardens provide extras for summer guests who like to cook! We are only a mile away from Hwy 97, and right in the heart of outdoor recreation at it's finest.

Love this home

Beautiful home with amazing views! Owners really do pay attention to the details in making place a wonderful retreat. We stayed there with another family of 3. Our toddlers had plenty of room to run and enjoyed playing with the Easter baskets with plastic eggs. Even though the girls enjoyed petting the chickens, we loved having fresh eggs available. Thank you for the day pass, too! We definitely plan to stay here again for future climbing trips to Smith Rock.

Owner's Response: At The Good Earth we really do take great pride in attention to detail. We are local owners, and are always available if our guests need something during their visit. Our last guests loved the fresh chicken eggs so much that we gave them another dozen to enjoy during their stay!
The gardens are being planted as the weather allows and the threat of frost diminishes. Currently the lettuce, dill, and arugula seeds are in the ground and the asparagus is finally peeking through the soil. We plan on adding potatoes, squash and tomatoes as warmer days arrive. As always our herbs and veggies are available for guests as they become available, fresh from the garden!
Our close proximity to Smith Rock State Park (4.5 miles) and to Highway 97 (1 mile) make it easy to access climbing, hiking, fishing, biking, car shows and all the other amazing activities here in Central Oregon. The Good Earth is a great home away from home whether you are outdoorsy, or just like kicking back with your feet up and a good book, (and...may we suggest Wild by Cheryl Strayed which will soon be a movie and partly filmed around the Bend area!) Life is always interesting here!

Happy Spring!!

Awesome, kid-friendly house!

We stayed here with 4 adults and 2 kids under the age of two. It was ideal, and we will definitely go back!! Just a few of the reasons we will return:
- 10 minutes or less to Smith Rock State Park, which was our primary destination for the weekend. They have an annual pass that we used.
- Beautiful house. Lots of windows, lots of room, very clean, and great views. Some of the kitchen stuff was nicer than our own kitchen gear. It felt like a luxury vacation home instead of a climbing homebase.
- Super kid-friendly. All one story, nothing to break. I felt comfortable letting the kids run around and have fun. The kids also loved the chickens.
- Owners are awesome. They are extremely responsive and warm. As a bonus, they provided fresh eggs and a portable crib.
In summary, this place is amazing. Highly recommended.

Owner's Response: We have certainly been seeing several little ones lately so we did invest in a portable crib/playpen. It's seems to be working well!!! After raising our own kids we try to make this house work for both adults and children. We have an enclosed yard around the house that works great for exploration without danger! When we say we are close to Smith Rocks, we do mean 10 minutes away. We continue to have lots of climbers who are trying figure how how to keep climbing and stay somewhere comfortable now that they have started a family. The Good Earth seems to work for them! If you are looking for a step above the ordinary with extra touches, views that knock your socks off plus attention to detail, check out The Good Earth soon!

Great location with amazing views enjoyed hiking at Smith Rock, fishing and skiing
Recommended for:  Adventure Seekers, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway
Owner's Response: One of the consistent surprises for our guests is the amazing view. Even on a cloudy or stormy day the landscape above Terrebonne with Smith Rock State Park in the background is dramatic. On a clear day with Mt. Jefferson and Mt. Hood in all their snow-capped glory out the front window, it is nothing short of spectacular. There is so much to do in the Central Oregon area and it can all be coordinated out of The Good Earth with it's convenient location. The house is comfortable, quiet, extremely clean and welcoming. Mark has continued to upgrade windows, doors, bathrooms and just recently added new shades in the master bedroom skylight and in the kitchen. This week he will be installing a new energy efficient sliding patio door. We are preparing for the warm weather that will soon be here. Today, it is gorgeous, sunny and mild with spring flowers popping up in the yard. Our gardens will be planted soon, and our chickens are providing our guests with a good supply of daily fresh eggs! Life is awesome at The Good Earth, plan on visiting us soon this year!!!

I thought the home was fantastic. Very spacious and affordable. Owners were great and accommodating. I had a great stay at this rental and would stay again if going back to Redmond area.

Owner's Response: The Redmond and Terrebonne area (only 4 miles apart!) have so much to offer! Never mind that fabulous Bend is only 19 miles away. Here just outside, or a few minutes away from the front door of The Good Earth, there is gorgeous scenery, wonderful restaurants, breweries, community events, and spectacular hiking. Throw in the world famous rock climbing at Smith Rock State Park, unique wineries, and the fantastic Lake Billy Chinook and you have a vacation to remember! We are always happy to hear that our guests had a great experience here in the High Desert of Central Oregon, but especially at The Good Earth!!! Things are greening up and the early spring flowers are starting, visit us soon!!

We booked our next visit before we even left!

To future guests of The Good Earth,
This was my first time renting a house and the standard has been set! From the very first email to the good-bye waves, renting from Mark & Cindy through VRBO was a top-notch experience. Myself and the friends we rented with feel like we have a home-away-from home and literally cannot wait to come back. So we didn’t wait! We booked our new “annual weekend” before the first one was even over. ;)
Everything about the house and land was grand. Incredible privacy, a view that draws you into la-la-land, parking space like I never could have imagined at a rental. This is not a rental house, this is a rental home!
Counting down the days….
Recommended for:  Pet-friendly, Adventure Seekers, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers
Owner's Response: We totally enjoy meeting new people, but it is truly thrilling when we have return guests. That means we are doing something very right! This group was our first to book for next year even before their long weekend here was over, what a statement to the satisfaction level of their stay! It was a birthday party to remember for everyone high on the hill overlooking the craggy hills of Smith Rock State Park! The Red Wing Blackbirds have returned to the area and their familiar call reminds us that spring is slowly taking hold here in the high desert. Daylight Savings time returns soon, and the days are gradually getting longer rolling us on to green grass and blossoms. The sunsets have been wonderful, and blue skies are taking the place of the fluffy grey snow clouds that descended on us in February. The Good Earth is your home away from home in the best possible way. We look forward to greeting new guests and welcoming familiar faces back to this special place on our quiet hillside in Terrebonne!
