Together Cindy and her partner Mark(pictured) manage the day to day details of The Good Earth. Cindy and her brother Bob purchased the house and property together in the spring of 2012. Cindy lives in Oregon and retired in 2008 after 31 years of service with the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Department. Bob lives in Northern Virginia, and retired from GSA with the federal government in 1997. Cindy is a mother, published freelance writer, and a foster kitten/cat caregiver for Brightside Animal Center. Bob is an avid reader, a history and plane buff, and a man of wit and charm. Mark is a super gifted 'jack of all trades' and keeps everything at the rental running like a well oiled machine! He usually greets all the guests personally and keeps that fire stoked just perfectly for a relaxing soak in the cedar Snorkel hot tub! Cindy and Mark are the faces you will see here at The Good Earth, and are always ready to help in any way to make sure your stay is as enjoyable and pleasant as it can possibly be.

Cindy Murphy purchased this house in 2012

The shop, the chicken coop, raised beds, atrium, vegetation, the wildlife and colorful lizards, end of the road privacy and the view, the view, the view!! We live in this neighborhood, know and love the area, and are only minutes away to provide the best customer service possible. This is a gem of a house, and so close to everything!

Besides the majestic vista, out the back door hiking, and open space and privacy, we are also part of a small community water system in the same aquifer as Earth2O which means good clear water! There is a newly paved road, unique quiet neighborhood with no light pollution and thousands of brilliant stars in the night sky! The raised garden beds, and healthy herb gardens provide extras for summer guests who like to cook! We are only a mile away from Hwy 97, and right in the heart of outdoor recreation at it's finest. Again we remind people that this is a non smoking neighborhood, and we monitor this extremely closely due the danger of fire. If you are tempted to smoke, please consider another property.

Owner's Response: It has been a busy summer at The Good Earth! We always work hard to make the experience at our vacation rental exceptional. It is so nice when we receive reviews that let us know our guests had a wonderful time, and that our hard work paid off! Summer is winding down, and although the days are nice and warm, cooler evenings have arrived with a distant hint of fall in the air. We are so close to many places that make Central Oregon special no matter what season it is! Check out our calendar and plan a visit this fall!

Exceeded expectations

  • 5 of 5
We came over for our 15th anniversary to hike Smith Rock and to explore Bend and Redmond. The house and views were amazing and exceeded every expectation that we had. Our hosts truely cared about our experience, they had recommendations for places to go, restaurants and even left us a day pass for Smith Rock. The bottle if wine and fresh eggs were wonderful. Thank you for your hospitality and we are already planning our next visit.

Owner's Response: Since we opened The Good Earth in 2012 we have really enjoyed sharing it with people celebrating special events in their lives. We have hosted weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, reunions, and best friend escapes! As owners, we take pride in making our vacation rental one of the best that people have experienced. We live locally and know the area well, so guests can always ask for recommendations or advice if needed. Since we live just four houses down the hill we are usually around to help out with whatever will make someone's visit even better. August is coming to a close soon and we have enjoyed our busiest summer yet! We are already booking for 2015, so check our calendar and plan a visit with us in 2014 or next year!

AMAZING wedding weekend!

  • 5 of 5
I'm a little late but wanted to write a review describing how AWESOME this place is! We stayed here for 3 nights the weekend of July 26th for our wedding. The rental was extremely clean, the view was great, and the hospitality from the owners topped it off! They had fresh cut flowers, champagne, and even a congratulations balloon awaiting our arrival...not to mention the hot tub ready for us after our wedding festivities. FABULOUS stay. Coudn't be more happy! Thanks again both of you for a great, very memorable weekend!

Owner's Response: One of the things we really love to do is try to make our guests stay extra special. It was so much fun getting the house and yard ready for the wedding preparation, pictures and all the celebration surrounding the big day. The Good Earth is a perfect place to celebrate life's events from birthdays and weddings to everything in between!!! A big congratulations to the happy couple!

Great place

  • 5 of 5
Thanks (again) for another great stay at The Good Earth. Our 2nd time here was just as good as the first. Great location. Our kids loved the chickens...and we loved the fresh eggs and coffee and wine. Close to Smith Rock State Park for climbing and running and to the many other great outdoor areas Central Oregon has to offer. Thanks!

Owner's Response: We love returning guests! That tells us that we are doing great things, and people enjoy what we offer well enough to book another stay! Many visiting children are fascinated with our chickens and love the ability to gather their own eggs from the nest. It is really fun to host people that enjoy a little country experience out here on a couple acres. We are rural but are less than a mile to the main highway that leads to all kinds of Central Oregon adventures! The summer solstice arrived last weekend and those long lazy warm days have settled in to stay for awhile. Enjoy a relaxing break soon at The Good Earth, and happy summer!!!

Fabulous week in Central Oregon

  • 5 of 5
We just returned from spending 8 nights at The Good Earth. It was a fabulous vacation and the home was a spectacular place to stay. We immensely enjoyed the views, the fully appointed kitchen, the snorkel hot tub, etc. We cannot say enough good things about this rental. The added personal touches from the owners, with the fresh coffee, eggs, fresh cut flowers were very appreciated. The place is great and we would return in a heartbeat. It was about a 10 minute drive to Smith Rock State park where we spent a fair amount of the week climbing, and it was about a 5-10 minute drive to Redmond for grocery shopping. It was approximately 30 minutes to Bend, as well.

Owner's Response: It's so true! We are centrally located near many very cool places to visit. Along with Smith Rock, Bend and Redmond (our growing newbie in the brewery world) we are only a short ride from 2 fabulous wineries, beautiful lakes, forests, and rivers. All the climbers who stayed with us eventually needed a break from the rocks and took full advantage of what is unique to Central Oregon. It is a gorgeous time of year here in the High Desert and although the spring flowers have faded, the summer roses and gardens are flourishing. The toasty days invite basking in the sun and the mild evenings make lingering on the patio or soaking in the wood fired tub especially magical. With the summer solstice approaching it is time to take it all outside and when you do, make The Good Earth your place to come home to.

Outdoor Adventurers

  • 5 of 5
We travel quite extensively and this was one of our most enjoyable stays. Close to virtually any outdoor activity, we used this location to rock climb, mountain climb, and ski. The proprietors were more than friendly and catered to our every need. The property was beautiful, clean, secluded, and had great views. We would recommend whole heartedly and hope to be back.

Owner's Response: The really awesome thing about The Good Earth is you simply cannot have a bad day there. While our last guests made the most of every day, the spring rains did shower on them as their time here went by and they still had a wonderful experience. Whether it is sunny, raining or snowing, the scenery changes beautifully with the weather in a stunning way. You can watch the storm fronts roll like a creeping beast over the Cascades, see stars with crystal clarity on a cloudless night, or watch low clouds create moving art at Smith Rock when rain speckles the windows. This is a tranquil retreat in every sense of the word. We do boast about many days of sun here in Central Oregon and it is true! The warmer weather seems to have arrived and we have recently planted more in the gardens! Trails are opening up as the snow melts and climbing is in full swing! We so love that people want to return to this comfy place with the spectacular views! Visit us soon!!!
Happy May!

Welcome to The Good Earth! Our house is a charming super clean vacation rental with breathtaking views, located on the southern edge of Terrebonne Oregon. Our comfortable smoke free property offers all that you will need to relax and enjoy the beauty of the classic high desert. Just a note though.....if you are a smoker, PLEASE...seriously consider another property. Our entire neighborhood is non smoking due to the extreme fire danger that comes with the landscape here. Respect for our neighborhood and properties is extremely important and we monitor this very closely. You are welcome in our home but if there is ANY sign of smoking in the area we will ask you to leave with no refund. With that being said....expect to enjoy northwest wine, or local beer of your choice, organic coffee, and fresh eggs from our chicken 'girls' housed on the property. We offer a three bedroom, two bath home with a very cool atrium nook and a spacious family room to accommodate additional guests. We are located on 2 acres high above our unique local town, and just minutes away from all types of outdoor recreation activities. 4 miles south on Hwy. 97 is Redmond with a great local vibe that includes lively bars, breweries, restaurants, and spot on coffee houses. 23 miles south is Bend, a mecca to the outdoor scene, 4.5 miles to the northeast Smith Rock State Park waits for your hiking boots to hit the trails beneath golden hued climbing walls. A complementary day use pass for all local Oregon State Parks is available for use during your stay. We are 40 minutes from the unique little community of Sisters at the base of the Cascades. Sisters is the home of towering pines, cool little boutiques, a killer quilt show and popular fall folk festival. It is most importantly (to Cindy anyway) the gateway to the magic that is the timeless Metolius River. Skiing, hiking, fishing, biking, rock climbing, and boating are all within 15 minutes to an hour, as well as live theater, great wines, and over the top brewers. If you want to stay within a mile of home.....Terrebonne has some awesome local spots that we visit often. Just ask us for our very local recommendations!! We could go on about the drop dead sunsets or soaking in the hot tub under brilliant stars, but just come visit us and you will understand why we live here!
