About Cindy Murphy

Together Cindy and her partner Mark(pictured) manage the day to day details of The Good Earth. Cindy and her brother Bob purchased the house and property together in the spring of 2012. Cindy lives in Oregon and retired in 2008 after 31 years of service with the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Department. Bob lives in Northern Virginia, and retired from GSA with the federal government in 1997. Cindy is a mother, published freelance writer, and a foster kitten/cat caregiver for Brightside Animal Center. Bob is an avid reader, a history and plane buff, and a man of wit and charm. Mark is a super gifted 'jack of all trades' and keeps everything at the rental running like a well oiled machine! He usually greets all the guests personally and keeps that fire stoked just perfectly for a relaxing soak in the cedar Snorkel hot tub! Cindy and Mark are the faces you will see here at The Good Earth, and are always ready to help in any way to make sure your stay is as enjoyable and pleasant as it can possibly be.

Why Cindy Murphy chose Redmond

We love the shop, raising chickens for fresh eggs, garden beds, the sunlit atrium, vegetation in the yard, the wildlife, colorful lizards, end of the road privacy and the incredible view!! We live in this neighborhood as well, only 4 houses down the hill from the rental. We know and love the area, and are only minutes away to provide the best customer service possible. This is a gem of a house, and so close to everything!

What makes this house unique

Besides the majestic vista, out the back door hiking, and open space and privacy, we are also part of a small community water system in the same aquifer as Earth2O which means good clear water! There is a newly paved road, unique quiet neighborhood with no light pollution and thousands of brilliant stars in the night sky! The raised garden beds, and healthy herb gardens provide extras for summer guests who like to cook! We are only a mile away from Hwy 97, and right in the heart of outdoor recreation at it's finest. Again we remind people that this is a non smoking neighborhood, and we monitor this extremely closely due the danger of fire. If you are tempted to smoke, please consider another property. We also have two resident shop cats who patrol for rodents. They are comfortable and at home in their heated shop, but do not come into the rental house.

Spring Break 2015

  • 5 of 5

The Good Earth Home was the perfect spot for setting up home base for the Eastern Oregon University Outdoor Club Spring Break trip to Central Oregon this year. For many of the students this was a journey to a new part of the state, and the beautiful views of the valley and the mountains beyond, the comforting facilities (the wood-fire hot tub was a group favorite!), and hosts made it not only feel like that new adventure, but each night we returned to either cook a group dinner (shared some birthday celebrations!) or enjoy a drink after a day of climbing or rafting, it was still just like coming home. Can't wait to stay here again!

Owner's Response: We were so excited when the Eastern Oregon University Outdoor School picked us as a home base for their adventure to Central Oregon during Spring Break! The students got a taste of climbing and river rafting as well as enjoying the beautiful scenery that is so different from the east side of the state. The Good Earth is a perfect spot to return to after a day of whatever outdoor activity is on your agenda. Comfortable beds, a relaxing wood fired hot tub, and the sun setting over the Cascades is a great wrap up to wherever the day takes you here in the high desert. April and Easter are almost upon us, enjoy a visit to Central Oregon soon..... Cheers! Cindy and Mark

Owner's Response: Sometimes everyone in our family chips in to make The Good Earth an exceptional place to stay. When these guests needed a dog bed for their traveling canine companion, Marks son Aaron happily delivered one to them to use during their stay. We think you will find our hands on service and attention to detail over the top. You will not be dealing with an out of town owner or a hired property manager at The Good Earth, just us, and our extended local family. Happy Spring! Cindy, Mark and Aaron

The Good Earth is a great spot to call home while you explore and enjoy a variety of activities. Located only 1 1/4 miles from Highway 97, 2 miles to Terrebonne, 4.5 miles to Smith Rock, and 4 miles to Redmond, we are an accessible convenient place to stay!! February is winding down, and spring is on the horizon. Climbing season at Smith Rocks is upon us!! Cheers! Mark and Cindy

A phenomenal place to stay!

I just want to say Mark and Cindy run a top notch rental! They are very attentive to the smallest details. Their rental is very well kept, clean, spacious, and has lots of amenities - like a wood fired hot tub! The view is spectacular and being just minutes from Smith Rock the location couldn't be better. Thank you so much and look forward to coming back soon.

Owner's Response: We treat all our guests with top notch service and we love getting reviews like this one from people that recognize that. We certainly do go the extra mile to make sure all the special details are in place every time we greet our guests. We treat people the way we would like to be treated when we travel! We are always improving, upgrading, and adding new features to make this wonderful place even better. The winter has been mild here and climbing season has started early!!! Come visit us soon here at The Good Earth! Mark and Cindy

This Place Just Keeps Getting Better!

I had another great stay at The Good Earth in January. Every time we come, there are subtle changes and improvements. The owners are so attentive to their guests and clearly want us to have the best experience. With Smith in site and the wood-fired hot tub cranked up, I felt pretty lucky to be in beautiful Central Oregon.

Owner's Response: We are always adding and improving things at The Good Earth. We like to provide just what we would love to see if we were traveling. Those extra touches make our rental just a little more special each time, and returning guests let us know that they like the changes! We've added new leather recliners, more books, a pillow top king size bed, more greenery in the atrium, and a record player with a small (but growing) collection of music just like back in the good 'ol days! We enjoyed a week long stretch of weather in January that reached up into the 60's, and the town of Terrebonne and Smith Rock State Park were hopping! Book some days here soon in sunny Central Oregon! Mark and Cindy

the Good Earth

Just got together with my college buddies for a multi-sport weekend at the Good Earth and was very happy with the accommodations. Couldn't be any closer to Smith Rocks! The house was delightful and the hosts also went the extra mile supplying seasonal beer, fresh eggs, and firing up the wood fired hot tub for us earning the full 5 stars!

Owner's Response: It is fun to see people arrive prepared for everything! Kayaks, bikes, climbing gear and everything in between transported by car. It is a good idea too because here in Central there are so many options for outdoor recreation! We love to see the people that come to The Good Earth have an exceptionally awesome time, for whatever reason they are here. The seasons are changing and soon snowboarding, skiing and snowshoeing will take the place of other activities. No matter what season it is in Central Oregon you can always take it outside for spectacular views and adventure, then make The Good Earth your home base for comfort! Happy Fall!!!

Welcome to The Good Earth! Our house is a charming super clean vacation rental with breathtaking views, located on the southern edge of Terrebonne Oregon. Our comfortable smoke free property offers all that you will need to relax and enjoy the beauty of the classic high desert. Just a note though.....if you are a smoker, PLEASE...seriously consider another property. Our entire neighborhood is non smoking due to the extreme fire danger that comes with the landscape here. Respect for our neighborhood and properties is important and we monitor this very closely. You are welcome in our home but if there is ANY sign of smoking in the area we will ask you to leave with no refund. With that being said....expect to enjoy northwest wine, or local beer of your choice, organic coffee, and fresh eggs from our chicken 'girls' housed on the property. We offer a three bedroom, two bath home with a very cool atrium nook and a spacious family room to accommodate additional guests. We are located on 2 acres high above our unique local town, and just minutes away from all types of outdoor recreation activities. 4 miles south on Hwy. 97 is Redmond with a great local vibe that includes lively bars, breweries, restaurants, and spot on coffee houses. 23 miles south is Bend, a mecca in the outdoor scene, 4.5 miles to the northeast Smith Rock State Park waits for your hiking boots to hit the trails beneath golden hued climbing walls. A complementary day use pass for all local Oregon State Parks is available for use during your stay. We are 40 minutes from the unique little community of Sisters at the base of the Cascades. Sisters is the home of towering pines, cool little boutiques, a killer quilt show and popular fall folk festival. It is most importantly (to Cindy anyway) the gateway to the magic that is the timeless Metolius River. Skiing, hiking, fishing, biking, rock climbing, and boating are all within 15 minutes to an hour, as well as live theater, great wines, and over the top brewers. If you want to stay within a mile of home.....Terrebonne has some awesome local spots that we visit often. Just ask us for our very local recommendations!! There are drop dead sunsets and soaking in the hot tub under brilliant stars. Come visit us and you will understand why we live here!
