With the original 1920s hardwood floors this home brings you closer to Austin's unique history. Hyde Park is considered Austin's first suburb, founded in 1891. Located in Central Austin, Hyde Park is defined by it's southern most border at W. 38 Street continuing on to W. 51 Street to the north, rounding to Duval Street to the east, and Guadalupe Street to it's far west. It is situated just north of the The University of Texas and borders the neighborhoods of Hancock and North Loop. Hyde Park was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990, as was the neighboring Central Austin community of Shadow Lawn Historic District. The first houses built in the neighborhood were stylistic examples of late 19th-century domestic architecture. Many of them, such as the Oliphant-Walker House, were built in the Queen Anne style by locally prominent citizens. Noted sculptress Elisabeth Ney was among the first to buy property in the area, which was heavily promoted as confirmation that Hyde Park was attractive to Austin's most talented and prestigious citizens. Ney built a small castle-style studio, named Formosa, in northwest Hyde Park that is now home to the Elisabet Ney Museum. The 1.75-acre (7,100 m2) Shipe Park is located in Hyde Park. Located just .6 miles from the home, Shipe Park has two basketball courts, one multipurpose court, two picnic tables, one playground, a 444 square yard neighborhood swimming pool, two lighted tennis courts, and indoor bathroom facilities. Hancock Golf Course, a public nine-hole golf course, also sits in Hyde Park. It was created in 1899, making it Texas' oldest golf course.

EXCELLENT HOME AWAY FROM HOME

  • 5 of 5
This home has everything you could need! A beautiful two-story house in a wonderful neighborhood.
The house itself is great. Wonderful front porch with a porch swing. Lovely sitting room (with a piano!) and large dining table for family dinners. A modern kitchen with everything you need to make a wonderful meal - great range, microwave, dishwasher and all of the cookware and appliances you could need. Full size washer and dryer. A kitchen table for more casual meals. A very comfortable TV room with cable and a DVD player, plus books and games. Three bedrooms (one downstairs and two upstairs) - all have amazingly comfortable beds and great private bathrooms. The master has jacuzzi AND a shower in a large, lovely bathroom. Two screened in porches (upstairs and down) make it very easy to relax and enjoy a sunrise or some quiet time. The backyard is absolutely lovely with a great deck, grill, and a pool.
Off street parking makes parking a breeze and all in walking distance of some amazing restaurants, grocery stores, coffee shops, a public golf course, and great shopping. Bus lines run nearby through the neighborhood and downtown is just a 10 minute drive away.
We stayed here for almost a month while our own home was undergoing renovation and loved our time here. It was the perfect home away from home...clean, stocked, and beautiful.
The owner is very nice and easy to work with. We so appreciated the ease and comfort of this home and highly recommend it - we have stayed in many vacation homes over the years and this one is far and away our favorite.

SUPERB HOME IN A PERFECT LOCATION

  • 5 of 5
Our family stayed in this amazing home in Hyde Park for 3 months. The house is even better in reality than the pictures suggest. There was nothing that I missed or needed during our stay that was not in the house already. On arrival the house was spotless and is well maintained. It is very comfortable and made for easy living for 2 adults and 3 children (10 and under). The pool is fantastic and the tree house is the best I've ever seen and made for a great hideout for the kids. The back porch is screened in and a perfect place to sit during the day while the veranda off the master bedroom makes for a great chill out spot.
The house owners are incredibly accommodating and could not have made our stay more enjoyable - they could write the manual on how to ensure a perfect rental experience. Anything that arose during our stay was dealt with quickly and without any hassle at all. They went beyond what would be expected to ensure that we had the best time possible in Austin.
The location of the house is terrific. Restaurants, shops and parks are within walking distance. Downtown is a short bike ride away. The bus stops literally within 1 house. From here you can explore all Austin has to offer with ease. Suggestions of restaurants, places to visit and things to do were all there for us, so that settling in was easy and instant.
Hyde Park is an older neighborhood that is very friendly, quiet and safe. I would highly recommend this property and would without hesitation rent again should the opportunity to visit Austin arise (and we hope it will).

GET-A-WAY FROM NEW ENGLAND LINGERING COLD

  • 5 of 5
Recently returned from a wonderful winter break to Austin. This home is beautiful and so comfortable. It holds everything we could possibly need and more. The location is perfect and we even tried the bus Into down town early evening to see the bats from the bridge and walk the city. How fun and so easy. I highly recommend this home, in this city! We will return!

FABULOUS LOCATION FOR GIRLS WEEKEND!

  • 5 of 5
Beautiful home. Our group took advantage of all the different areas to sit and chat...poolside, screened back porch, living room. So nice to have restaurants, coffee house and neighborhood grocery store all within walking distance. Enjoyed walking through the Hyde Park neighborhood, hearing the roar of the UT football game and the incredible Texas weather. We plan to return!
