This is a small 2 bedroom, 1 bath unit located on the second floor of a 2 story building.We purchased it in September 2012. We own 2 other units in the complex (vrbo numbers 290416 & 311117) The complex is one mile south of downtown Kailua-Kona. Even if you don't need the second bedroom it is a nice room to read or take an afternoon nap, and we have priced our unit to provide very affordable accommodations. Both bedrooms have brand new queen beds. Relax and watch the brand new flat screen TV in the living room. We provide wireless internet (bring your laptop), but bring your cell phone as there is no phone in the unit. There is an assigned parking space very close. Beach towels, beach chairs and coolers are provided for beach days. There are plenty of supplies and a well equipped kitchen.
The Kona Shores is an oceanfront complex centrally located on Alii Drive which is the oceanfront road that goes in to town. It is a short walk for shopping, dining, people watching or just to go down for a happy hour cocktail. Magic Sands beach is only 2 miles south of the condo.
The Big Island has just about everything you could ask for...Great Beaches...Deep Sea Fishing...Golfing...Snorkeling...Diving..an Active Volcano and Much, Much More! Be sure to explore all that the Big Island offers.

Owner - Provided excellent service
Location - Excellent. A 10 minute walk to stores/restaurant and 25 minutes to the pier
Complex - Good. Parking, BBQ, laundry facilities, neighbours, etc were all good
Pool - Excellent with an incredible view (It really is just like the pictures)
Condo - Good. Clean and comfortable and fully equipped and looks just like the pictures.
Overall - Great value and would highly recommend
We found this condo to be nice and clean. It's location is great...close to town and to great snorkeling. The unit was well stocked. It had everything we needed (even laundry detergent). We had a very pleasant stay. The owner was great to work with. He refunded our damage deposit quickly. I would definitley recommend it to our friends. Hope to come back to Hawaii again.
We stayed for a month and really enjoyed the pool, whale-watching, and the proximity to downtown. I was in the pool at least once a day and walked to the Kailua pier and back most mornings. The condo unit was clean and comfortable. We do not tolerate heat well, especially for sleeping, and likely ran the air conditioning more than most, along with fans to redistribute the cold air.
This was our second stay in this condo. We loved it just as much as our first stay. The condo had everything we needed and was nice and clean. The location is perfect - you can walk to Kona for shopping, dinning and nightlife or explore The Big Island by car easily. Nice beaches close by and the lanai and the pool is great for a relaxing day. We hope to have even more future stays in the condo.
Stayed here in June of last year on a friends trip. It was a great place to stay with everything we needed to enjoy Kona right there in the condo waiting for us to use! Condo was clean, stocked, nice, and exactly like the pictures. Located VERY close (less than 1 mile) to all the shops and restaurants in Kona. We walked there and back many times during the trip. Loved using the BBQ area for lunches and relaxing at the pool on days we didn't go to the beach or go exploring the Big island. Very pleasant experience and owner is great to work with!
Arrived at the unit, exhausted from the day's travel, around 11:30pm, local time, and was very pleased to find the code to the key lock box worked and that there was, indeed, a key inside. From that moment on, I knew we had it made... The condo was clean and comfortable (2 of us stayed there with each of us getting our own room). The linen closet is well stocked, the kitchen and bathroom are stocked with the basics, the AC unit is fully functional, bedrooms each have a queen bed and ceiling fan (TV in the master) and there is beach gear to use. All in all, bang for the buck, I'm very pleased with what I got.
The complex is quiet, so don't go there expecting a beer commercial down by the pool. It's very mellow with an interesting mix of residents/fellow travelers. Everyone I met was very welcoming and willing to share their knowledge and experiences of the island. The pool area is nice (take your key!). Great place to watch the surf roll in, lay and read a book or go for a little dip. There is no beach, but there is access to the lava shoreline (take your key!) for a walk, swim, snorkel, kayak or just to sit and watch for whales and dolphins (I saw one whale tail). A 20 minute walk down Alii Drive gets you to the start of the Kona strip for shopping/eats/nightlife/stroll along the seawall. I found the condo to be a great launch point to see the island. Capt. Cook is 30mins away, Hapuna beach is about 45mins (30 once you get through town), Volcano was around 2hrs, Pololu Valley about 1.5hrs and Waimea about 45mins, just to give you an idea.
The only aspect I can nitpick at is that the lanai must be accessed through the master bedroom. Not much can be done to remedy that though, and, fortunately, I won the coin toss and got the master, so I really don't have reason to nitpick at all!
The owner was excellent to deal with! He was quick to respond to any inquiries I had about the property and the process of renting it. Everything went smoooooooth like butter. We kept the place clean and didn't leave much to do after we left and were promptly refunded the damage deposit that we paid when we first rented it. I've read that this isn't the case with some property owners, as they will try to nickel and dime you, so, again Doug, I commend you sir! You run a tight ship. Thanks very much for letting us stay in your place!
