SECURE, BRIGHT & SUNNY HOME IN LOVELY GARDEN COURTYARD

San Miguel de Allende Condo Rental Photos and Description

Condo, 1 Bedroom + 1 Bath (Sleeps 2)

“The Sanctuary” is an oasis of tranquility, a secure six-unit gated garden complex over which huge pepper trees spread year-round leafy branches. My condo, located on the top (3rd) floor, is flooded with sunlight and has a spacious rooftop patio.

Situated at the end of a double cul-de-sac in a friendly family neighborhood, this condo is not only very safe but also unusually quiet for a downtown location since there is no vehicular traffic, only local kids playing in the street. Of course you’ll hear the nearby church bells and fireworks, but that’s part of San Miguel’s charm!

It's an easy 5-minute flat walk to the farmer's and artisan's market, and a few more to the Jardín, the central plaza of San Miguel.

This condo is especially light and airy, since the sala-comedor (living-diningroom) has two large arched glass doorways, one with southern exposure and the other facing west - the dappled afternoon sun is filtered by the delicate leaves of the pepper tree throughout the year. There are round porthole-like windows in the front room and bedroom, a large rectangular window and skylights in the well-furnished kitchen. Skylights also provide extra illumination in the bedroom which has a large arched doorway that opens directly to the plant-filled passageway, and in the adjoining bathroom, which also has a light well in the corner.

The bedroom has a queen-sized bed with a very comfortable Sealy Posturepedic mattress and two reading lamps on either side. There is a large closet facing the bed and a smaller one to the side; plus a little study nook with a computer desk and folding chair. The bathroom has a shower and large bathtub finished with hand-painted tiles from nearby Dolores Hidalgo.

The kitchen is completely equipped, with a full-sized refrigerator, stove with 4-ring range and oven, microwave, toaster-oven, blender, plenty of counter space, pots and pans, cooking utensils, and complete table settings for four.

The frontroom furnishings include traditional textiles, mostly from Chiapas and Oaxaca; a comfortable cushioned equipal sofa and chairs (pre-Hispanic indigenous wood and leather design); a hand-carved dining table and chairs; and a fold-out foam futon sofa-bed.

Plant-filled outdoor passageways run along the front (west) and side (south) of the apartment. The rooftop terrace, partially covered and protected from high winds by a row of windows on two sides, is a perfect place to catch the first rays of the morning sun, the last of the setting sun; and the starry skies all night. It is large enough for gatherings or outdoor meals.

The private outdoor spaces of this condo are especially nice, since the extensive gardens and tall trees of the Quinta Loreto hotel, to the south, add to the sense of being surrounded by greenery.

I was a resident of San Miguel for 16 years, and I loved this home best of all the dozens of places I lived. Come and have your spirit refreshed and renewed by all that San Miguel and this sanctuary have to offer.

I am a Japanese American writer, graphic designer and translator. I have lived in Mexico since 1993.

Holly purchased this condo in 2000

I have rented many different lovely and not-so-lovely homes in various parts of San Miguel. When I turned the corner of the cul-de-sac on which this condo is located and saw the huge pepper tree at the end, I knew I wanted to iive there. When I saw the top floor apartment on the east side of the courtyard, flooded with sunlight (the main reason I moved to Mexico), I knew that I wanted to live there forever, so I borrowed money to buy it! But in recent years I have developed problems in my hips, so I have decided to retire in the countryside in a one-story home ... but I'm always happy to visit my Sanctuary (the bannisters are good and strong so I can still make it up and down the stairs easily).

The SUNLIGHT - through the three large arched glass doors, through the funny round porthole windows, through the skylights in the ceiling, in the plant-filled

passageways and on the rooftop terrace patio.

Also it's a great family neighborhood with lots of kids who like to help the foreigners, and the other owners and renters in this complex are also on vacation or retired so you get the best of both worlds.

PERFECT

Holly's Sanctuary was perfect for me in every way--just the right size, just the right distance from El Centro, just the right church bell tones and the right number of singing birds. Thank you!

ROMANTIC AND RESTFUL HIDEAWAY

  • 5 of 5
The "Sanctuary" is in a secure garden complex located within a 15 minute walk of "El Centro". It is very private and secluded despite being in the heart of San Miguel. My favorite was the bedroom probably because I had wonderful nights sleep on the comfortable mattress. You could sleep with the windows open and not hear any cars or people..only the church bells. In the morning you wake up looking through branches to see birds against the blue sky. Its like being in a tree house three stories up. The unit has a lovely wrap around terrace on two sides and a large roof top terrace as well. Holly is relaxed and will accommodate you.

EL SANCTUARIO

  • 5 of 5
What a great place! Perfect for a romantic getaway. We loved the seclusion and the friendly unpretentious neighborhood where we could get most of our grocery needs (and Tres Leches cake - yum!) within the block. For flowers and everything else there is the public market only minutes away along with the top entrance to the Mercado de Artesanias or "Artisans Alley" as we called it. Nearby you can catch the dedicated bus to the Sacntuary of Atotonilco, the "other" UNESCO World Heritage site besides San Miguel. Just a really great location - walk anywhere!

Holly really stayed in good communication and worked to meet us as we were coming in from Queretaro. And she has followed up well afterwards, too. She obviously loves this place and that shows in the graceful touches and ambiance.

From now on this will be our home in San Miguel, that's for sure. Thanks, Holly!

EXCELLENT VACATION PLACE IN SAN MIGUEL

  • 5 of 5
We enjoyed the apartment very much - it is an excellent place to stay in San Miguel. The location is very convenient - walk to center, a market nearby. The apartment is very pleasant and full with light. Holly was very helpful when we needed to find some information.
We shall come back.
